  • My dad is 90 years old and has dementia. His drivers license has been revoked, but continues to drive. My fear is he will hurt someone. I disabled their car, they had it towed and repaired. The police say if i take their car i get charged with a felony! The laws need to be changed. Maybe be worded that at age 70 you need a doctors release and be required to take a driving test every year. I'm not sure how to take the car so they dont continue to drive. Any suggestions ?

  • Recently, a stunned elderly woman nearly hit my vehicle head on in a parking lot right after she did a left turn right in front of two other cars at the intersection.

  • All states in the USA and all provinces in Canada should automatically revoke a person's driver's license when they reach their 70th birthday whether or not they can drive okay.

From age 60, everyone should have to get tested once a year at their own expense.

  • another one take me outing The highway....

  • I'm sorry for your loss, i also believe eleder people should probably not drive anymore as they pose a real danger on the roads... .

  • Well , this is what old people behind the wheel means : it can't fucking get the car safe in the garage.

    Watch this watch?v=RoNfljg5ifw&feature=related

  • I'm sorry about the loss of your father. I do know some older adults that need to have testing before renewing their license again.

  • Another reason why laws aren't passed limiting elderly drivers and testing them is because the senior lobby and the democrats kill any upcoming law to prevent death.

It'll cost lawmakers votes and votes are more important than lives according to these characters.

I'm not saying all elderly drivers are a menace but those that are should be looked at.

Is pride more important than someone's life? I don't think so....

  • The elderly should not drive anymore. With old age; the ability to operate a motor vehicle safely diminishes. Reaction time is compromised and driving ability has decreased.

Even if laws were imposed to test the elderly at a certain age, would it prove effective? I just watched another video, where an elderly was tested at DMV and passed when he obviously had trouble.

DMV examiners allowing elderly drivers to pass based on human emotions. There is too much to list.

  • @EarWax0 ...being old does not count you worthless. Elderly people are a blessing to their families, they hold wisdom and memories of years gone by. The elderly are why and how you got here. They deserve respect and love. they do not become a danger in all cases, and they can be monitered and watched .....to say just kill ethem is an evil thing to say.

  • @Lisalynn7 it is bad to stereotype all old people as worthless but it goes both ways. It is equally ignorant to say all old people are wise and wonderful. Old people don't deserve respect simply because they are old. Respect has to be earned. The idea of respecting your elders dates back many thousands of years to a time when only the strongest and smartest of us had any hope of growing old. These days any idiot can live to be 100.

  • @EarWax0 ...and you too will be old someday......should we just kill you?

  • I feel ya man my uncle was pretty much a dad to me and got hit by an 83 year old and died in hospital then 2 weeks later it was christmas and we didnt celebrate at all

  • if you can still pass the test then you should be able to drive but some elderly people just don't realise that as they get older they get slower, weaker and less reactive, that is a fact and there is no changing it, if they don't make sure old people get retested we could have people with dementia driving on the road. it is a serious issue, i disagree with taking away there liscense once they reach a certain age but i do agree with retesting and then taking away the liscense if they fail.

  • I'm sorry that happened to you : ( I work next to a retirement home and I cannot tell you how many times I see accidents or almost accidents. I've seen them run red lights or stop signs and they either have no clue or have a look of total panic on their face probably because they wern't paying attention.

  • not to fogret female drivers who always text while driving. ?? seriously you are operating 3000 pound heavy metal you need to pay attention.!!!

But then again DMV issues the license to almost everybody because the more drivers there are the more cars are gonna be sold, and the more insurance is gonna be purchased. I would imagine that cops loves bad drivers too because they get to write the tickets. its all about the money. nobody gives a fuck about you

  • alot of these Elderly people can pass the test. but its what they do after they pass the test that counts..

I dont understand how can an eldarly driver kill somebody driving on the wrong side of the freeway and get away with basically a murder , i really feel for those who died in an accident.

here are some other people i hate on the road.

Asains because they are always 10 miles slower then speed limit, Eldarly because lack of reflexes and 15-16 year olds.

  • @jebacinaba

Wrote, "Asains because they are always 10 miles slower then speed limit,"

My response; So, just because you saw one Asian driver out of the hundreds driving, you automatically assume that all "Asains" drive the same way. I am Asian and agree with you to a certain point. Some Asian drivers do need to pay more attention to their driving skills just as Caucasians, Blacks, Mexicans etc. Get the point?

  • @jebacinaba

Wrote, "here are some other people i hate on the road.

Asains because they are always 10 miles slower then speed limit,"

My response; I drive all over the U.S. and I can say that bad driving habits come from all races. You're stereotyping, dude.

  • Male drivers under 21 tend to be the highest risk.

  • I was really fortunate with my dad. One day when he was 86, he just announced to me "you know, I don't think I should drive anymore". It was a surprise because even though he was naturally "slower" then in his younger days; his eyesight was still good, and he had never had an accident or even a "close-call". Dad was accepting of the fact that as you get older you just can't do the things you once did.

  • All the attention (and new laws) are targeted at "those dangerous young drivers". Reason: older drivers are a VERY powerful political lobby. They vote with a vengence and also contribute to campaigns. No state legislator wants the "kiss of death" to his political career by being labled as "mean to older people". Teens and younger drivers, however, are an easy target for "get tough" legislation.

  • I think some states already test older drivers. I haven't heard if they've been proven effective or not. I wonder why our states are so slow to change things up.

  • @KryptNet See my comment above. I live in Nebraska--which has a HUGE senior population. Last year the state legislature tried to introduce some new restrictions on older drivers (test every two years instead of four, a doctor's certification, etc.). It was all defeated after a tremendous uproar from the Senior lobby.

  • This is a huge problem in South Florida. Some of them are so senile or doped up on meds, they are constantly drifting off into other lanes, hitting parked cars, taking wide, blind turns.

Past a certain age they should require the elderly to retake the driving test every year or so.

  • What scares me is that you are not required an eye test until you are 80 in the state of Florida.

  • I am writing a paper for one of my classes and its about people over 65 need to retake their driving test. I fond your video very helpful and it touched my heart. You and your family are in my prayers

  • I ride a motorcycle and every time I have had someone pull out in front of me it has been an elderly driver.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

  • i fell so srry for u caues what happen to ur dad

  • kill them before thay kill us?

  • They probably don't even feel guilty about it. For old people in this country everything is about ME ME ME, when they killed that baby in the stroller The first thing he probably wanted to know is if his insurance covered murder.

They come out in droves to vote is why they are given a free pass by our government. The most spoiled and selfish group of people in the United States are our seniors. They vote against our future in every election and expect a free pass on vehicular manslaughter.

  • elderly people risk my life every day in the sleepy southern towns i work in, i fucking hate the drivers here, the younger people aren't any better, they don't use turn signals out of laziness, cut corners, blow through lights, go 5 under the speed limit all the time, right your ass, bright you from behind, etc. etc. I fucking want to kill somebody sometimes.

  • Elderly drivers definitely should not be given a pass. Once you hit 75, you should pass a new driving test every 2 years at the minimum.

My grandfather is 86 and still drives great, btw... still beats me on the golf course and walks for miles through the woods during hunting seasons. But not everyone is so lucky.

If I'm ever a 90-year-old maniac with a car, please, someone, take my keys.

  • I agree with you 100% and I am truly sorry for your loss. I'm doing a persuasive speech on this exact topic tomorrow night. Is it ok if I reference this video?

  • omg.. u are so honest and i love it.. sorry for your loss.. and yes i take care of the elderly i do in home care... and i try and tell my clients children that allowing their parents to drive isnt safe... but they all say.. " well my mom is so strong willed.. we cant stop her.. and i hate that.."

you are correct.. we need to put safet first not their feelins

  • I totally Agree with testing ELDERLY drivers. I did some research on the subject and elderly over the age of 65 are 3 times more likely to get into an accident than a NEW DRIVER! Mandatory testing should be required at a certain age. DRIVING IS A PRIVLEGE NOT A RIGHT! I had an old person almost knock me off my bike, cut me off, then at the next light he gives ME the finger...I fucking hate old people. Kicked the side of his pos car at the next light. Me 1, Old guy 0. WIN. Respond if u agree.

  • People over the age of 60 should be given driver's tests every 6 months for the rest of their driving careers. I can't tell you how many times i've seen elderly, unaware people almost cause a major wreck. In fact some old rich guy in an escalade cut me off last week. Had no fucking clue i was there lol it's so painfully obvious steps need to be taken to change this

  • well people need to pay attention and be alert and get off your fucking cell phone

and this shit won't happen so much , elderly drivers or women drivers should not be targeted by people

  • how does your comment relate to this video? it had nothing to do with people on their cell phones...

  • g man is a bone head and clearly didnt pay attention

  • Yes they should be targeted the elderly need to stop drving

  • I'm very sorry for your loss. I watched a video where a family lost their three year old son in an accident with an elderly person. People over 60 should NEVER drive unless they have the body and mind of a person 10 years junior. Otherwise, never. It's just one more dangerous person on the road, and there are enough of those to go around. I hate when I see old people driving, especially driving recklessly. Licenses should be revoked after 60. Take a bus or a cab or some public transportation.

  • over 60? Good grief...my parents are both 61 and 62 and perfectly capable of driving defensively and safely...the same as I would drive and I'm 26. I understand elderly but 60's is not elderly...sorry.

  • I know, but you don't know how many seniors that age I see driving foolishly and it makes me so angry because not only do those people ruin it for the rest of the elderly drivers on the road, but they ruin the lives of families who have so much more time on this earth than they do. Maybe your parents are competent drivers, but there is no escaping the fact that they are approaching an age when it will be dangerous for them to be on the road. I don't mean to offend you, but yes, 60 is elderly.

  • You didn't offend me...but I'm just wondering how old you are. I used to think 60 was old when I was younger...but I do not consider it elderly whatsoever. We'll just agree to disagree.

  • I'm 21 years old. Agreed.

  • im so sorry for your loss, i was rear ended by a granny while standing still, and she thought it was my fault! get these old shits off the road!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • this is the simplest way to put this driving imparied is driveing impaired whether its because you drunk high or old its dangerous and negligent and the penaltys should be the same across the board if a 21 year old kills someone because there drunk and gets put in jail for 20 years the same should happen to the 88 year old when they cant tell the break from the gas peddle .the law is the law with no decimation or exceptions

  • the worst drivers are people under 21 and people over 70 (fact) yes when people hit 70 they need to take another test!! they have no reaction time! and "freeze" their foot on the pedel, and say "the gas pedel stuck" yea right!! i really feel something goes wrong in their brain when they stomp on the gas and wont let up! as for the under 21 crowd - PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD YOU JERKS! get off the phones and stop drinking!

  • couldn't of said it better. i agree totally.

  • @jrjr143 I spend alot of time on the road commuting I also spend alot of time on the defensive side of driving cause at least twice a week I have an elderly person drifting into my lane nearly side swiping me......

Driving is not a constitutional right, and our local and federal governments got to take a stand on it like its any other "Privilege" not right....

  • i am sorry bout ur father but i do not believe elderly drivers pose a threat as big as underage drivig and drunk driving also newly liscensed drivers

  • Maybe you should research it more in-depth then. I didn't think so either before my dad was killed and when I researched it, I was shocked to hear all the stories about people who were injured and killed by old drivers.

I'm not saying that ALL old people should not drive. All I'm saying is that if a senior citizen drives like a young person who is intoxicated then we need to stop them from being on the road just as diligently as we do drunk drivers.

  • Well, first of all, sorry for your loss but hang on a sec- so old drivers cause accidents, make one more research if you so please- How many accidents are caused by the elderly and how many accidents are caused in general. Even if you pull out the elderly from the road, things will still be shit. Although I admit that I've been driving since 17 and now I'm 20, I have no crash what-so ever but most of my 'close calls' were done because of elderly drivers. For some it was my fault though so yeah.

  • Oh my god.. I'm so sorry. I'm just now viewing your videos and it seems like you've been through a lot in your life. :(

  • Im sorry :( <3

  • I almost got killed by a 79 year old lady that just ran into my motorcycle as if I wasn't even there ... she said she "didn't see me" I'm very sorry for your loss and I think older drivers should be tested EVERY year to see if they can drive safely.

  • this video is ridiculous. but i am sad that your dad died. Elderly people just want to go the country kitchen buffet.

  • This video is not ridiculous...it's the truth. Research this issue yourself and you will see many cases where elderly drivers kill people with their cars. I have a grandfather who is in his 80's and he still drives. I feel helpless because legally I can't take his keys away but something needs to be done about this so there are laws to protect us from this tragic situation.

  • Yes, but the rate at which elderly drivers inflict death and property damage pales in comparison to the damage/death caused by inattentive drivers, inexperienced drivers, inebriated drivers, etc., etc. These issues that affect many, many more people must be dealt with before such problems as elderly drivers.

  • we hafto act now we hafto stop Elderly drivers and take them of the road it shud be a age limet for how long you can drive i say 60-65year btw so sorry for your lost

  • I am sorry about your father's death. You will be in my thoughts.

  • I am so sorry for your father's death. I know there is nothing I can say that will make it at all better.

    Hugs.

  • im so sorry ur father died. :(

  • So so sorry for your lost.
