I'm a Fire Cadet (still in high school) on our small Volunteer Fire District. There's a few firefighters on the roster that are just in it for the recognition of the general public. I know thats wrong. Your not a firefighter for the "fame and glory", your a firefighter to help people, friends, and family in their time of need.
I were at Firefighter boot camp at location of Fire Academy. It's really tough for everyone of us to delt with in first week. But, at least, we knew what the point for us to push ahead toward our goal for human's lives to save in future.
God bless our brothers for bravely trying to save innocent people during 9/11 attack.
i really want to be a firefighter.. the thing is that im only 5'4 and a half, i know i can do just as well as the other guys, i was was just wondering if you guys think the firstation would even give me a chance?
@tonythetiger1027 Of, course you can. Guy I work with is 5'3'' and he already saves 12 lives, so far I counted. But, one thing for you to be careful on is clumbing a ladder from truck, due cause of your height. Take care.
Loving it. Something about turning out and knowing you're about to see the belly of the beast that just makes me all warm inside.... actually its the fire nevermind. :D Love u guys stay safe.
@tayshaye13.... def go for it im in the academy now and absolutely love it...I have three months left then I graduate...and there are girls in my class...and there good at it...if they can do it so can u...dnt take shit from anybody!
@MrAremis Well basically if you only want to be a volley (and only a volley), you need to find the firehouse that is in your district. I'm out in Katy and we have 7 fire stations in my area but the one I'm in the has AHJ (authority having jurisdiction) is Westlake VFD off Fry Rd. Now that's not to say you can't volley anywhere else but you would have to stay at the station at night for at least 4 shifts a month. Most volley stations, you don't need any certs or anything to apply. Just go and
talk to any officer there and ask for an application. Usually they will have a meeting the first week of the month and vote you in or not as a probie member. Then most stations will train you in house so you can get your minimum number of hours of training to ride the truck as well as pass 3 phases of physical testing, NIMS through FEMA, and a written exam. Training usually takes about 3 months (at least it does with mine) then you can ride. If you want to go professional with it, y ou would
need to get your state certificates as well as complete fire training through cyfair, lonestar, or wharton jr college then apply with HFD, and go through the academy, then you'll be in. It take a lot but if you just want to do volley, I would recommend just finding your closest fire station and applying and talking to an officer at the station to find out what you need to volunteer with them.
zrett, you're just one of those kids who doesn't have what it takes, so you have to bash on it to make you feel better. I fucking DARE you to do this work for one day in LA or somethin, and see what happens.
Most people have no idea at all what a Firefighter must be able to do to complete his or her training. Hats off to ALL Firefighters for all that they do! It's so much more than putting water on a fire. SOOOO much more! Great job!
I still got a few years but in the future I would like to be a firefighter. And yes I'm a girl and I couldn't care less what people think. I want to be a firefighter because it's not about keeping a house from burning but I want to saves people lifes. God bless all the men and women out there<3
I honestly don't understand how some people can hate this much on firefighters. until you go through what you see in this video and put it all on the line constantly, you don't really have the right to go out and talk shit about firefighters.
Boot camp? I was expecting to see something along the lines of R. Lee Ermey in "Full Metal Jacket". You know, rolling in at 3AM, turning on the lights, rattling a billy club inside of an aluminum garbage can and yelling, "Wake up maggots and hit the deck! You have two minutes to get dressed, your bunks made and downstairs! MOVE MOVE MOVE!!!!"
Then I realized that these are civilians. Ah well....
anyone who says firefighting isnt hard, should come out and put their money where there mouth is, all day continuously with no rest, extreme stress and physical exertion.
@sactownfireman just throw them on a so cal wildfire as ground crew and have them dig trenches or some shit, hahaha. firefighting's hard work, if you doubt it, come do it yourself.
and what exactly are they posing ? would u like someone out of shape that cant handle them selves trying to save your ass ? if u ever find yourself in a situation where u have to be rescued by firefighters why dontcha call em a poser ? hope they leave your ass to burn
not only "zrett7t" but anyone who thinks what we do whether volly or paid to not hard...come on out to your local station, and join, ride along, go to late night call and have to get up for your paid FT job a little later on little or no sleep, and on the weekends instead of being with family, go to the fire academy just so you can be better at what you do..I can only promise you what and how you think now will change in a heartbeat, esp when you see those who we help in their time of need.
@zrett7t so... just curious. Did you go to all firefighting videos and post shit about firefighters? If you did, you have WAY to much time on your hands. This so-called "bullshit" in your mind is the real deal. Don't come running up and say "Hey! How come you didn''t help me when my house was on fire??" Well, some people don't appreciate what we do. You're one of them.
@CyanoticFuture I agree with you he is a 39 year old fuck up who doesn't know half the shit firefighters go through and see.I am 18 and just got my diploma today plan on getting into tip-top shape then become a volunteer ff then paid one day hopefully.Just wearing the gear alone in 97 degree weather is a killer for most average people and there basically fucked if they have to do a PAT but you got to start somewhere and if you fail hopefully you will go through training once a week.
well it didnt show much but its alot harder than it looks you really have to be there to understand how tuff it is and different fire college do different tranning but this is just showing basic you want tuff smoke diver is realy hard we had two guys go throw it they both pass and one of them is a marine and he said smoke divers was the hardest thing he ever did.
In that evolution your in a three man team that hooks up to a standpipe and your flaking your hose line up two or three floors (stairs) before you reach the fire, not sure why they didn't hit the floor before entering the room, but we always did.
That evolution was just smoke, no fire, just teaching recruits the proper way to flake hose lines in a building with no visibility, usually the instructor(t-shirt) follows you using a TIC.
"heat resistant crap", I hope you are not implying that it is nice and cool inside bunker gear when it is 100 degrees outside. Its just the opposite. And weights on your back, please try towers with bunker gear plus scba plus a high rise pack and some sort of tool in your hand. We also go 9 hours with a one hour lunch. Also most people don't get "paid" to go though the academy, they pay for it.
It's like 4 grand for out of state, but plus you have to shell out a thousand for food(breakfast/lunch no dinner) and than for a room(no cable or video games aloud)
The video doesn't do any justice for the PT part, for instance one fine morning we were expect to do 1,000 push ups in an hour, no lie, we do stairs and the famous gator's. Most instructors are former military, and expect you to act in a military manner. If you still think its a "little easier" please come on down and give it a try. And that morning wake up call, yeah they weren't that nice to us like in the video!
Funny how people can say that their football practice was harder than FSFC when they have never been to FSFC, does you football team go into the conex when its 100 + degrees out side and about 900 + inside? does your football team run in full bunker gear?, does your football team do push ups with an air pack on?, the list can go on....
I'm talking about many many of the volunteer firemen I am surrounded with every day, as I too, am a firefighter.
It was a joke. If you didn't laugh you are either so serious about firefighting that you are a tool, or you aren't a firefighter, so I wouldn't expect you to understand.

thats cool. im active duty. 5 months in iraq. 3 months in afghan. atleast im man enough to give u respect for wat u do and not talking trash like a lil kid. be a grown man and show respect for ur brothers in the armed forces. i hope u grow up and realize wat u did is childesh. doesnt the army teach respect??
I'd have more respect if I didnt suspect you of being a TROLL.... Anyone can say they are active duty with blah blah blah blah blah... what base are you stationed? and whats your Occupational specialty? I can easily grow up but I prefer to point out the fact that theres way to many POSERS on this fuckin website
im at goodfellow afb in idaho. been here almost a year and been deployed 2 times. im a firefighter. tech school was in san angelo texas at goodfellow afb. the ONLY fire academy for all military personell. so im guessing u went there???
yeah Im just getting my feel of that kind of career. Im also looking at law enforcement which seems to fit my personality alot better. Id rather prevent crime
Im not a Military firefighter weak suace. I am Infantry. I am a civilian Firefighter when I am not Activated for LAFD (Los Angeles Fire Department) I was contemplating changing my MOS to firefighter after my next deployment
im pretty sure u can if u want. the school for fire is pretty fun. u leave with like 7 certifications and 27 college credits. and i know wat LAFD is. im from southern california. ontario to be exact. im like 25 minutes from l.a
im not in the army or anything, but i have all the respect in the world for you guys. so i must ask, is weak suace a armed forces thing, cuz i like it, but i dont wanna take it from anybody
yea i guess that wud be pretty fun too. idk wat the army has for cops but i know the air force has security forces which is kinda cool but firefighting is way better. but were u thinking bout MP or civilian cop?
Strange they want probies in decent shape, but what about after you have been on for ten or twenty years? Some guys try to keep in good shape, but lots become very over-weight and out of shape. Why is OK to become a fat tub of lard after you have been hired?! Either you need to be in shape to do the job, or you don't? Which is it?
im not an expert but i myself will getting in to being a volley and i was told that having the Emt cert will help your chances into getting into being a paid dept. somebody correct me if im wrong.
Not all paid department require it, but most major departments. EMTs are a dime a dozen for that reason... If you really want a good chance, go all the way and get your paramedic. Still doesnt make you a shoe in!
i went through this program a couple monthes ago. its tough but it will get you in the best shape of your life. if you end up getting accepted here just wait until you meet the chad haha
that aint nothing like what i had to do come go though "12 months of hell" at the fire acadmey in ga and also yall use a lp burnbuilding we got the one where you burn pallets.... hahah ours are hotter then yours lol but no i heard fla was hard but ga is harder.....
Oh yeah, wel my dads, best friends, uncle knows a guy whos dog knows this hamster who had a friend that knew a four eyed monster named pete that owned a lizard that was bought by a russian that says you suck!
Run, run, and run some more. They focus a lot on core strengthening. The better shape you're in, the better you will do. Run with weight, it helps. Do push-ups, crunches, jumping-jacks, a lot of calisthenics. And most of all, PUSH YOURSELF!
Why are military people considered to be more attractive or interesting than people in other professions? :The neatness of the uniform and the cleanliness of the people in it is great. but mostly it is the confidence with which soldiers and sailors carry themselves. They are of confident without being cocky.
SUPPORT TROOPS! LIVE ON THE NET! Just —————uniformedcupid*c0m to show your respect!
Yo I'm about to go to corpsman school in the Navy. When I enter back in the civilian world I really would like to pursue a career in Firefighting. Is it easier to become a firefighter for those who have been in the military. I live in Miami Florida. I will probably be working with the Marines(FMF) since that is the closest thing to a paramedic. In miami dade county u have to be a paramedic in order to be a firefighter since over 80% of the calls are medically related.
man i miss those days. for those of you that are there or plan on being there you need to cherish those days cuz its the best time of ur life especially at florida state fire college.
i got 1 year left of highschool and then i would love to go to the florida state fire college i live right near it in ocala not more then 15min drive or so for me. Were the instructors there good ? my cuz went into it and he said he loved it

You stupid fucking cags just cause you set on a fucking fire you think your going to be all that and shit. And yeah i bet you liked being called assholes and being yelled at like little bitches. Oh and stupid fucking imature people cant be a marine or a firefighter and your probably too soft to do the job.

Same seems to apply to cops in the US.

If I had my EMT thing, (not the EMS degree) and went to my Fire Academy, do you think I have a better chance of getting on with my Fire Department?
enforcement92 3 years ago
im not an expert but i myself will getting in to being a volley and i was told that having the Emt cert will help your chances into getting into being a paid dept. somebody correct me if im wrong.
HEROE4EVER 3 years ago
all full time paid departments require emt
eyebrows4 3 years ago
Not all paid department require it, but most major departments. EMTs are a dime a dozen for that reason... If you really want a good chance, go all the way and get your paramedic. Still doesnt make you a shoe in!

in any part of your training do you have to lift weights or use a weight machine(other then hoses etc)
quaditup 3 years ago
how should i train (like what types of exercises etc) to be ready for firefighting training i am planning on joining a company next year?
quaditup 3 years ago
Run, run, and run some more. They focus a lot on core strengthening. The better shape you're in, the better you will do. Run with weight, it helps. Do push-ups, crunches, jumping-jacks, a lot of calisthenics. And most of all, PUSH YOURSELF!

Why are military people considered to be more attractive or interesting than people in other professions? :The neatness of the uniform and the cleanliness of the people in it is great. but mostly it is the confidence with which soldiers and sailors carry themselves. They are of confident without being cocky.

I don't know if I want to be a firefighter, or a state trooper!
JacktheRipper414 3 years ago
Yo I'm about to go to corpsman school in the Navy. When I enter back in the civilian world I really would like to pursue a career in Firefighting. Is it easier to become a firefighter for those who have been in the military. I live in Miami Florida. I will probably be working with the Marines(FMF) since that is the closest thing to a paramedic. In miami dade county u have to be a paramedic in order to be a firefighter since over 80% of the calls are medically related.
africa126 3 years ago
Good luck in the service, and on being a firefighter.
JacktheRipper414 3 years ago
lol. I leave to bootcamp June 16 for the Marines and I wantt o bewcome a firefighter. lol
