well the surround is weak on the kicker because one time is was bumping with my l7 12 and the surround ripped on the edges from bumping a little too hard but the Fi could take it i bet
Kicker is just like ford... Plastic made to look good... Solo X is a beast but heard them..didnt like them too well. I.M.O handbuilt quality is best and try burping 8k watts to an L7. Everyone in my city says "Kicker this Kicker that!" get off kicker's nuts and get what you can actually talk and back up with.

I recently had a chance to listen to 6 L7 15's power by 3 Kicker 2500.1's. for comparison, a friend of mine has a truck with 6 Digital Design 15's powered by two DDZ1 3000 watt amps that recently did a 153.2 at a usaci event. L7 kickers shut him down at a local car show. when asked what kind of number the van did, the guy told him I dont compete because there will always be someone louder, well that day no doubt kicker was louder and drew the bigger crowd.
@dcbt96 more cone area and power is why it was louder and more impressive. if you match up the setup with the same power/efficiency/ and cone area i would think the DD's would be louder. But everyone has their opinion.

How exactly do you determine who has better sound quality? To say Kicker subs aren't good because they "pop a lot" doesn't mean shit. I've gone with kicker subs for going on 2 years now and not had a problem once out of them. Anyone who pops any reliable brand sub is a total dumb shit and probably shouldn't have their hands on an amplifier to begin with. And from the sound of your comment, I think you may have blown a few coils in your day.

And I'm telling you its all in the install. You are taking a small portion of physics into account. Surface area doesnt mean anything in a setup. The only thing that matters is how well the setup is put together. Just b/c you have more surface area doesnt mean you'll be any louder or move more air. There's a guy on youtube with only 2 15's doing full blown hair tricks, just as good if not better than my 4 18's. I have more BL, cone area than he does. Its all in the install.
It really doesnt mean anything to a setup. You can make an 8" be just as loud as a 15". You really dont need more surface area to get louder. Sure, in the right setup it helps but to the avg joe, it really doesnt. Hell, Alan Dante has hit a 181.1 db with only 1 18" subwoofer...didnt take him 24 12's or 16 15's to do it either...once again surface area means nothing in a setup.
@Villeza1 if you wanna talk straight spl numbers at like 50 hertz and above you can get good numbers with a small sub. if surface area means nothing why do you run 4 18's instead of 4 8's tuned at like 70 hz? It's because big subs can do the higher db's at like..30 hertz. Larger cone area equals high db's at lower frequencies. Thats what people want these days
I'm gonna give you another example since the last one was a little extreme. Lets take onwers1's system of 8 15's in a 6th order bandpass with 22,000 wrms...he does 160's on music. Now lets take beajay25 sestem of 4 15's in a typical ported wall with 24,000 wrms..he does 160's on music too with wall less surface area and port area, again surface area means nothing in a setup, its all in the install. (Both are tuned fairly low I might add.)
I also went with 18's b/c I've never had them b4, not b/c I thought I'd get louder. My vehicle cant handle 4 18's, I'd be much louder with 4 15's or even less. I have a tahoe now and I'm still gonna down grade my subwoofer size back to 4 15's and I'm 100% sure I'll gain dbs from going down in size. B/c it'll be all in my install.
The kicker Solo X 18 is rated at 5000 watts rms and 10000 watts peak. I'm not sure about the FI BTL, but I think they're a little overrated because that guy has 8 of them walled in his tahoe. If you put 8 solo x 18's in a truck, it would be way louder, plus being square, it allows for 18% more output than a round subwoofer.
the new fi btls will laugh at a solo x. a solo x can only take 3000 rms. any more and it will bottom out. ive seen a 18" fi btl n3 take 3600 rms and still hold up strong.
that Fi BTL is better than that Kicker in every aspect. 1.. the coil on the BTL is so much longer and thicker. 2.. the BTL is round and has a better surround. 3.. the BTL has a non-pressed paper cone for better SQ rather then plastic crap. 4.. the BTL has better TS parameters. 5.. the BTL has a nicer basket and doesnt have ugly plastic shit all over it. 6.. the BTL is cheaper. 7.. the BTL has better cooling. the list goes on... and now theres the new FI BTL N2's with neo motors. etc.
Both are excellent woofers that can trump LOTS of woofers out there..remember before you make assumptions...its 90% install 10% gear. give or take. I've owned models from both companies..and there may be stigmas attached..just remember solo x's have won sq comps at the highest degree.

well i have at least i have seen a 18 inch square kicker before and i have to admit that it is extremely big!! i wish the people on tha grand plaza had it hooked up to an amplifier to hear it in person but it never happened :/ but im glad id seen the first 18 inch sub of my life!!! :)

@ChambeKickerL712 I have seen a solo x coil. And I have seen them blow from 2500 watts of sundown power. They are not 5000 rms. The coils are not built for it. The warhorse was not built for the soal purpose of the solo x. It was actualy made to put out more power more efficiently then having 4 kicker 2500.1s. Because with 4 2500s the amperage pulled off the batts is ungodly compard to just one warhorse.
Its all marketing. its to get you to buy it. Thats why they do it.

And I'm telling you its all in the install. You are taking a small portion of physics into account. Surface area doesnt mean anything in a setup. The only thing that matters is how well the setup is put together. Just b/c you have more surface area doesnt mean you'll be any louder or move more air. There's a guy on youtube with only 2 15's doing full blown hair tricks, just as good if not better than my 4 18's. I have more BL, cone area than he does. Its all in the install.

It really doesnt mean anything to a setup. You can make an 8" be just as loud as a 15". You really dont need more surface area to get louder. Sure, in the right setup it helps but to the avg joe, it really doesnt. Hell, Alan Dante has hit a 181.1 db with only 1 18" subwoofer...didnt take him 24 12's or 16 15's to do it either...once again surface area means nothing in a setup.

It's because big subs can do the higher db's at like..30 hertz. Larger cone area equals high db's at lower frequencies. Thats what people want these days

I'm gonna give you another example since the last one was a little extreme. Lets take onwers1's system of 8 15's in a 6th order bandpass with 22,000 wrms...he does 160's on music. Now lets take beajay25 sestem of 4 15's in a typical ported wall with 24,000 wrms..he does 160's on music too with wall less surface area and port area, again surface area means nothing in a setup, its all in the install. (Both are tuned fairly low I might add.)

I also went with 18's b/c I've never had them b4, not b/c I thought I'd get louder. My vehicle cant handle 4 18's, I'd be much louder with 4 15's or even less. I have a tahoe now and I'm still gonna down grade my subwoofer size back to 4 15's and I'm 100% sure I'll gain dbs from going down in size. B/c it'll be all in my install.

The kicker Solo X 18 is rated at 5000 watts rms and 10000 watts peak. I'm not sure about the FI BTL, but I think they're a little overrated because that guy has 8 of them walled in his tahoe. If you put 8 solo x 18's in a truck, it would be way louder, plus being square, it allows for 18% more output than a round subwoofer.

that Fi BTL is better than that Kicker in every aspect. 1.. the coil on the BTL is so much longer and thicker. 2.. the BTL is round and has a better surround. 3.. the BTL has a non-pressed paper cone for better SQ rather then plastic crap. 4.. the BTL has better TS parameters. 5.. the BTL has a nicer basket and doesnt have ugly plastic shit all over it. 6.. the BTL is cheaper. 7.. the BTL has better cooling. the list goes on... and now theres the new FI BTL N2's with neo motors. etc.

The warhorse was not built for the soal purpose of the solo x. It was actualy made to put out more power more efficiently then having 4 kicker 2500.1s. Because with 4 2500s the amperage pulled off the batts is ungodly compard to just one warhorse.
Its all marketing. its to get you to buy it. Thats why they do it.

@1998tiburonse These are specs from the manufactures FI is very vagge on details of its recomended enclosures and details for SPL and no details of when they were founded but each speaker has it's advantages and dissadvantages for one the kicker is around 1700.00 USD and the FI BTL is around 500.00 and custom built for your needs. So for 1100.00 for one solo x I can get 2 Fi 18's and murder the person only having 1 solo x. 4000rms(fi 2 18's) vs 3000rms(1 solo x). I'll have 2x the cone area. And about the cars, the only good american cars r corrvettes and vehicles like that
