@Razzberry02 Yes, in fact.... I think that's what most people think about when they see this :( Come on people, there is an actual historical event that this game depicts... who doesn't know about the Meiji Restoration? D:
Hi! im going to buy a new PC now so my question is, will these computer settings be enough to play the game on ultra? The computer is stationary and have got intel core i5 4 core cpu on 4*3,3Ghz, Geforce GTX570 graficcard, 16GB ram, 120GB Sata3 SSD harddrive. 24" Full HD Led screen. Be glad for the feedback all you PC gamers ;)
No matter how beautiful the blade may be, its purpose is no different from the gun. It is a weapon, used to wound and kill other beings.
Not to rain on your parade :P I love the feudal period of Japanese history. But the Samurai had a pretty brutal and bloody history too, it's not like they were any better than we western barbarians were...
@N00dleMeister I know that war is war and have always been bloody, gory and dirty work.
But still, in the past the men fought one one one, and it was skill that counted more then anything else. And now your bomb the enemy into submission with stealth bombers or blow up cars. Thats not honourable. There is no real war in that.
@SajiGenpou1 It is, but at the same time it isn't. Its very similar to the mechanics of Shogun 2, and supplements the original game. However, it can be played on its own
Hope they don't screw their audience once again. It has happened before. Too bad they can't create the games without lags/bugs. Empire Total War is the best game I've ever played, but bugs that NOTHING can fix destroy the gameplay. With these bugs fixed they would never have to make any more games, the ones existing are good enough.
@TheCrook5 wouldn't be much of a game. spending three years in one spot then finally advancing your army to see it be slaughtered in the first ten seconds.
An update replaced DirectX 11 (Which i can run fine) with DirectX 10 and now there are no textures, the game crashes frequently and DirectX 11 mode isn't an option. Can anyone help me get it back? Much obliged for any assistance.
Samurai honor, or guns? Tough choice. I respect the samurai, and I sympathize with what they had to go through during the Restoration, but guns are definitely the key to victory.
Maybe samurai matchlock units......It's a win-win :)
You know, I think they could make a WW1 period game, you know with the massive loss of life in the charges and with trenches and introducing slow moving shitty tanks that you could order men to climb on top of and kill the crew. It could also include new fortifications and U-boats as new naval units. There could also be lewis guns and stuff in units as well as snipers.
@mitrooper Have you ever played total war games before, because they don't have a individual story like in this trailer, its a strategy game and has better graphics than anyother strategy game there is, if you never played it just watch some gameplay.
dang nab it stop tip toeing around the civil war and make the game already...... American Civil War Total War....... or even the boar war something with guns because shogun 2 is not even fun anymore... i hate expansions just a cheap way to not create a new game
@beatinbossier1 Maybe they're testing out new stuff, to see if it's good, it costs less money to make an expansion so if they mess i up, they know how to fix it in a real civil war etc. game
@TomatoKimio I don't think that'll happen, warfare changed too much during that time, so much it wouldn't really be a "total war" game anymore if they did imo. They should stick with the times pre-ww1, where regimental fighting and cav were the norms.
@wedgy4life In the beginning stages yes, but newer and faster rifles, barbed wire and machineguns ultimately led to most of the cavalry being dismounted and used as infantry instead, they simply got cut down too easily. Of course, in other parts of the world cavalry was still being used in the war, but ww1 was a lot about mass artillery, stalemates in trenches, and people generally dying a lot. Using lines and formations, like most TW games have used since the first, wouldn't really work...
@N00dleMeister Usually cavalry was dismounted during the American Civil War aswell and used as light infantry, cavalry charges were rare because they would be cut down not only because rifled guns but artillery shooting canister and fortifications. Most were used as skirmishers unless fighting other cavalry wich was still rare.
I think it's great that they're making an expansion out of this not-so-well-known period of World History. The Fall of the Shogun and Rise of the Emperor really set the stage for a powerful Imperial Japan which ultimately started World War II in the Pacific. Since this is the most "modern" Total War game to date one can only hope for a sequel set during the World Wars.
@EV1LDRAG0N That's bullshit... A movie is a movie, a game is a game. See the difference? Besides, the limited edition comes with a unique faction and a sculpture...
@nazebaze jajaa... That was a joke, NOOB. I dont even mind about what it comes with the limited edition version. Ok, i understand that you're a 10 years old kid so you couldn't got the joke. =P

@nazebaze jaa... i was just joking, but you had to say: "That's bullshit... a game is a game, and a movie is a movie... see diference?" wtf? i clearly understand what's a game and what's a movie, and that was a really stupid answer, your comment.
@EV1LDRAG0N oh, then I appologise, I wanted to respond to another comment they made for me. And please, do not take my comment seriously, because they weren't for you in this case
Game goes from 1864 to 1900 and there will be bolt acton rifles! Fuck yeah! And probably maxim machinegun from the British and the French machinegun not just the gatling gun. But I gotta say, Maxim machinegun beats them all and French bolt action rifles
@SMGJohn I think it's like the skill tree from the vanilla shogun 2, you have to go through the "basic" stuff before you advance and develop newer technology. In line of automatic guns and rifles, the "most basic" of them would be the gatling gun and any type of "modern" musket, and as you advance or develop your relations with foreign powers, things like repeating and bolt-action rifles and maxims become available... I mean, the Gatling was invented some 20 years before the Maxim...
@N00dleMeister Of course but maxim has faster rate of fire, fires more bullets and faster reload and more portable. But since game goes from 1864 to 1900 the maxim machinegun has to be there since it was invented in 1884 and put to service with many nations
@SMGJohn Yes, and that's what I meant. when the Maxim was introduced, it surpassed the Gatling in terms of performance simply because it was a more advanced and refined piece of weaponry, and since it was invented in 1884 that means that you wouldn't be able to get your hands on it right away. You'd have to stick with Gatlings until you've researched (or waited) enough for the weapon to actually be invented...
@KittySN He says "Just like Pittsburgh back home", like "Pittsburgh back in the States".
Also, anyone else noticed that the time he first set foot in japan, 1865 is the year the American civil war ended :P Travelled right from the end of one civil war to the beginning of another :P "Guess I found myself a new civil war..."
@N00dleMeister yes, it's like this with all DLC on steam, you get it a few days earlier then retailers does. I pre bought it too on steam, simply can't wait!!
Guys expect the next total war series to be around the same period of this DLC. This gaming engine used for napoleon + Shogun 2 would not be suited to that of a Rome 2 or Medievel 3. They've already gone through the effort to design machine guns, ironclads, and revamped 19th century line infantry they are in a much better position to create a "Victoria Total War" they'll most likely do what they did from Empire total war > Napoleon total war.
Then I guess "Empire 2" would logically be the next TW game. The campaign would start sometime around the fall of Napoleonic France, and feature a more expanded world campaign map, and newer industrial war units like the maxim gun, repeating rifles etc. Like in this game, you should be able to call in naval artillery and dig trenches when you're sieging and defending.
I think I would love the next TW either way it goes, CA is just that good :D
@N00dleMeister TBH i reckon another total war expanding into that period would be wonderful, adding possible stuff such as global diplomacy between multiple nations at a time, vast global colonies, 'world wars', the technologies created during the industrial revolution at the grasp of your fingers. If they were to make there new total war in the context of Rome they'd have to totally start over again in terms of a new engine and models etc, thus taking another 2 years.
@warofnature Dominate the seas with Warrior-class ironclads, defend ports and rivers with river monitors. Lay down lethal fire with maxim machine guns, and shoot volleys of accurate fire with bolt-action and repeating rifles. Break sieges with armored trains, call in naval artillery and lead risky but spectacular cavalry charges to break the enemy!
Empire 2: TOTAL WAR... "Do you have what it takes to put the world beneath your feet?"
@N00dleMeister if empire 2 started after the fall of Napoleonic france then the uniforms would change alot which would be pretty cool to see as well as many guns changing throughout the century ships as well so yes i'd welcome that idea.
I think people are missing a larger point here, the fact that they've done this total war in the 19th Century has 2 symbolic meanings, 1. bringing together old style TW with Empire style TW (swords vs industrialisation rifles etc) and 2. TW can be done in 19th Century, and an Imperial Total War spanning the globe in the 19th Century (Pax Britannica and german unification) would be amazing leading up to World War 1. Of course we could always have Rome 2 or a Chinese/Mongol Total War.
@JagjeetMann I reckon my next guess they'll release some sort of "Victoria Total War" encompassing the industrial age such as the Pax britannica period with European nationalism and imperialism and the american civil war, using the same engine and some models from this new DLC. If they were to delve into WW1 they would have to overhaul the game completely in terms of the rts battles so I doubt they'd ever touch WW1 or WW2 in terms of the total war series.
@warofnature ww1 would be possible because they still kinda walked in lines but it would just be very inaccurate for the history side or the game would be boring with just stalemates everywhere
@danuk500 Not only that bro but that was the first time 'modern warfare' was implemented in human history, before the 1900 there were professional armies of around 100 000 - 250 000 soldiers fighting eachother in small theatres at a time, ww2 had conscription of entire countries, millions against millions, in terms of the normal TW style say 3000 vs 3000 i doubt they could even fit it into a smaller ratio. I reckon the turned based campaign would be quite interesting though.
@kilikolo56 i doubt they will follow the shogun 2 model for the next total war, but yes the expansions should cover all of Romes history, perhaps even an ancient greece expansion. I would be surprised if Rome 2 wasn't the next total war.
for fucks sake! i'll side with the japs and kick some yankee ass. sure, i'll proppably lose, but it's better to lose with curage than to win with cowardess.
@BuecherFuerAlle Except you won't really be able to. There will be 6 playable vanilla factions, three pro-emperor and three pro-shogunate. The US marines, the French and the British marines will be recruitable like "mercenary" units (i.e. not really "yours" but bought to fight for your side). Also, like in the trailer, adopting new technology means getting friendly with these foreign powers, and this is something that both sides did actively during the war.
@KinderGrinder23 no those are chainguns or miniguns, a modern adaptation of Richard Gatling's design. also COD sucks. and don't tell me to shit, it would make my chair smell, and I am not black.
@KinderGrinder23 Unlike Rome, its better to have a clash between the old and the new. Rome never had their warrior class threaten by the new age of warfare.
Dammit, because of this game march seems so far away... and even so, it'll probably be due for release at the end of march which means we will have to wait the majority of that month as well..
Well, I guess I'll play another domination campaign on vanilla shogun 2 while I wait :D
Shit, this is what I've been waiting for aside from Rome 2 total war. I'm totally going to recreate the last samurai with Tom cruise

warofnature 3 weeks ago
Then I guess "Empire 2" would logically be the next TW game. The campaign would start sometime around the fall of Napoleonic France, and feature a more expanded world campaign map, and newer industrial war units like the maxim gun, repeating rifles etc. Like in this game, you should be able to call in naval artillery and dig trenches when you're sieging and defending.
I think I would love the next TW either way it goes, CA is just that good :D
N00dleMeister 3 weeks ago
@N00dleMeister TBH i reckon another total war expanding into that period would be wonderful, adding possible stuff such as global diplomacy between multiple nations at a time, vast global colonies, 'world wars', the technologies created during the industrial revolution at the grasp of your fingers. If they were to make there new total war in the context of Rome they'd have to totally start over again in terms of a new engine and models etc, thus taking another 2 years.
warofnature 3 weeks ago
@warofnature Dominate the seas with Warrior-class ironclads, defend ports and rivers with river monitors. Lay down lethal fire with maxim machine guns, and shoot volleys of accurate fire with bolt-action and repeating rifles. Break sieges with armored trains, call in naval artillery and lead risky but spectacular cavalry charges to break the enemy!
Empire 2: TOTAL WAR... "Do you have what it takes to put the world beneath your feet?"
*dun dun dun* :D
N00dleMeister 3 weeks ago 2
@N00dleMeister if empire 2 started after the fall of Napoleonic france then the uniforms would change alot which would be pretty cool to see as well as many guns changing throughout the century ships as well so yes i'd welcome that idea.
danuk500 3 weeks ago
I think people are missing a larger point here, the fact that they've done this total war in the 19th Century has 2 symbolic meanings, 1. bringing together old style TW with Empire style TW (swords vs industrialisation rifles etc) and 2. TW can be done in 19th Century, and an Imperial Total War spanning the globe in the 19th Century (Pax Britannica and german unification) would be amazing leading up to World War 1. Of course we could always have Rome 2 or a Chinese/Mongol Total War.
JagjeetMann 3 weeks ago
@JagjeetMann I reckon my next guess they'll release some sort of "Victoria Total War" encompassing the industrial age such as the Pax britannica period with European nationalism and imperialism and the american civil war, using the same engine and some models from this new DLC. If they were to delve into WW1 they would have to overhaul the game completely in terms of the rts battles so I doubt they'd ever touch WW1 or WW2 in terms of the total war series.
warofnature 3 weeks ago
@warofnature ww1 would be possible because they still kinda walked in lines but it would just be very inaccurate for the history side or the game would be boring with just stalemates everywhere
danuk500 3 weeks ago
@danuk500 Not only that bro but that was the first time 'modern warfare' was implemented in human history, before the 1900 there were professional armies of around 100 000 - 250 000 soldiers fighting eachother in small theatres at a time, ww2 had conscription of entire countries, millions against millions, in terms of the normal TW style say 3000 vs 3000 i doubt they could even fit it into a smaller ratio. I reckon the turned based campaign would be quite interesting though.

The Last Samurai: Total War
SternMann93 3 weeks ago
when they make Rome 2 Total War they must make 2 expansions:
-Rome 2 Total War - Rise of Rome that take place in 757 BC
-Rome 2 Total War - The fall of Rome that take place in 498 AD
kilikolo56 3 weeks ago
@kilikolo56 i doubt they will follow the shogun 2 model for the next total war, but yes the expansions should cover all of Romes history, perhaps even an ancient greece expansion. I would be surprised if Rome 2 wasn't the next total war.

@kilikolo56 if they make rome 2 witch they wont

for fucks sake! i'll side with the japs and kick some yankee ass. sure, i'll proppably lose, but it's better to lose with curage than to win with cowardess.
BuecherFuerAlle 1 month ago
@BuecherFuerAlle Except you won't really be able to. There will be 6 playable vanilla factions, three pro-emperor and three pro-shogunate. The US marines, the French and the British marines will be recruitable like "mercenary" units (i.e. not really "yours" but bought to fight for your side). Also, like in the trailer, adopting new technology means getting friendly with these foreign powers, and this is something that both sides did actively during the war.

@KinderGrinder23 maybe because it's almost two thousand years later on the other side of the world. also Gatling Guns. Argument is now invalid.
tomayto70 3 weeks ago
@tomayto70 who cares abt gatling guns?those wars were so gay, if u want gatling guns try COD. shit nigga
KinderGrinder23 3 weeks ago
@KinderGrinder23 no those are chainguns or miniguns, a modern adaptation of Richard Gatling's design. also COD sucks. and don't tell me to shit, it would make my chair smell, and I am not black.
tomayto70 3 weeks ago
@KinderGrinder23 Unlike Rome, its better to have a clash between the old and the new. Rome never had their warrior class threaten by the new age of warfare.
JBXyooj 3 weeks ago
@KinderGrinder23 well duh,it's going to be different because of the 2000 years between the games are set
