  • 2:13 GOYA ADOBO!!!!

  • Does anyone know why the Eagle, being close to 100 years old is still be used as a training ship? Because the only way to learn real seamanship is on a sailing vessel, thats why.

  • very cool

  • Beautiful ship! Can't wait to be in the coast guard

  • I was on the Eagle from '94-95 and was one of the best experiences of my life. From the sails ripping in the middle of the night (and wondering if I was goning to live) while sailing through a hurricane to the array of great ports the Eagle was able to pull into. The parties thrown for the crew were incredible. Also having the cadets do as much grunt work while they were there was pretty good too. In a few years they will be the ones telling us what to do. Climbing the mast was awesome too.

  • Song: Woo Hoo- Newsboys

  • Are all new officers eligible to crew on the Eagle or is it only Academy grads? Are active and reserve both eligible?

  • song song song song song????

  • My dad went on that ship once. We have a picture of him and a friend twirling around the mast at the very top.

    Semper Paratas!

  • The historical value of that ship must make worth priceless.

  • Join the Coast Guard and perhaps the next video will show YOU!

  • Look OK Would prefer a wooden look to it.

  • looks super fun

  • I wish I could sail on that ship!! She's AWESOME!!

  • join

  • @beamaudio If you ever visit New London, CT and it is home, it is open to the public to go on and check out :) Have been on it a few times and it left me in awe, just a beautiful ship.

  • @beamaudio if you want to join the C.G.

  • whats the background song?

  • That was a good summer. You guys did a great job and were fun to have around on the ship!

  • great video, bad music

  • I spent two years stationed aboard Eagle as a Boatswain's Mate. It was the greatest part of my 10 year career in the Coast Guard. I've been to Europe and back on her and she's shown me all kinds of weather! I am proud to have earned the Order Of The Square Rigger and to have served aboard the only active square rigger in government service. Fair winds and royals all the way.

  • *is very jealous* I so wish I could get on that ship! XD Good job on getting that assignment! Very lucky person, if only I'll be so lucky some day...

  • join

  • My husband misses this ship! He was the SK1 for two tours and left for shore duty August 2002. If he had the chance, he'd go back!

  • I did a summer on the Eagle From New York to New London. I flew back to Houston and then they asked be to come back Newport Beach, Boston and New London all in the summer of 2000. At the time I was RD3 Tammy Barlet, anyone else out there during that time?

  • Is this still in active SAR sevice?

  • I'm assuming from your name, "jagerfaust", that you could be german? right? So you'd have a biased viewpoint of the ship anyways. You are wrong with the stolen part. It was a prize of victory. I guess from your standing it could look stolen, but not it's a mere fact that you "lost" it.

Regardless, thanks for correcting me on the stormtroopers part, I guess I can't trust everything I read.

  • @hylandir :

    "you'd have a biased viewpoint "

Who doesn't? Is yours 100% objective, because you're american, or what?

    "prize of victory"

Technically, the US took her because they had the opportunity and there was no one to stop them. Claiming her as a war reparation as the official pretext. The fact notwithstanding that any damage in terms of civillian and private property suffered by the US at the hands of Germany was limited to commercial shipping sunk off the atlantic coast .

  • Which (likely) was already more than compensated for by the systematic seizure of every intellectual, financial and industrial german asset (no matter wether state or private owned) the US could get their hands on, as well as the exploitation of german pows as forced labor.

Anyway, what do you call it, when someone takes foreign property because the opportunity presents itself? Right: THEFT.

  • @Thespides lol, germanys military was being deactivated anyway, so it would have gone into dissuse and been broken down, this way its actually preserved

  • Has the video come out yet??? I havent heard anything about it

  • COAST GUARD RULES!!! I hope to join when i am old enough! =)

  • Ships that size routinely worked with a crew of little more than a dozen, and not all of them experienced. Amazing

  • ...but still is an amazing ship. I would love to do one of the CGA summer trips on that.

  • Yeah it was. A training vessel for stormtroopers.

  • Did you know the Eagle was a Nazi ship?

  • Beutiful ship.. I wish i would have that. I can't understand why you are talking from ship like a woman. It's only wood, rope and iron. It's not a living thing. Realize it.

  • A ship is what carries you across the waters, through the calmest of waves and into the worst of storms. You hope that the strength of the crew and the integrity of the ship itself will carry you through to safety at the end of your voyage.

Because of that kind of reliance on one's ship it has always been tradition for sailors to think of a ship as being a woman, which is why everyone has been writing comments as "she".

  • I miss her so much. She is an amazing vessel with even more amazing people working on her.

She was never under full sail when I was on her, it must have been even more amazing!

As well, XO, sir, you just can't stay out of the pirate skits, can you!

  • I am in there a few times!!! when is the full video coming out, is it still coming out on PBS

  • Hi! I am enlisting with the USCG this April and hoping for BM A School-it would be a dream come true to board the CGCEagle-she's beautiful!
