How many branches and denominations of Christian Churches are there? Even Christians cannot agree with each others belief. It's not one church but many Christian churches. When I see preachers that have the mega-churches, owning jet planes, huge mega mansions, etc. I can't help but think they're "cashing" in on Jesus. He was a humble man while on this earth. You forgot Matthew 5:18, as well as the context of the entire conversation that started in verse 1 and continued all the way to verse 48. Specifically, if you look at 5:16-18 IN CONTEXT you will see that Jesus is alluding to His death when He says (paraphrased) "not one part of the law will pass away until ALL IS FULFILLED". Jesus fulfilled the law the moment he died. That is why the temple veil was torn. All of the synoptic Gospels record this: Matt 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:45.
BTW- this is backed up by Scripture.... Luke 24:44And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. So Jesus said HIMSELF that 1) he came to fulfill the law & 2) He did fulfill it by His death & resurrection....... The notion that Christianity is a relationship, is Christian propaganda and nonsense. You can't have a relationship with someone who isn't even around or alive.

If you find the etymological meaning of the word "Ekklesia" which is translated to church from greek you will see it is mistranslated and does not entail an elaborate social institution, nor does he ever describe or order one, it is more closley translated to segregation or group.

He came to fulfill the law, thereby destroying our need for it by His grace. He was the only one who could do it. I have a problem with religion, but I love Jesus. Religion tries to take it back to the law when we need to be focused on Christ instead of the rules/regulations that typically comes from religion.

Religion according to the given definition is a mass noun; Jesus is a proper noun. Jesus is not religion or a religion. However, part of the religion of Christianity is a belief in Jesus. Jeff was referring religion as an institution for the organization of many people's religion, and that the very premise of everyone having the exact same relationship with Him takes away from the personal relationship. For example, the pre-renaissance Catholic church was the most corrupt entity of the time.
Jeff should be more precise with his words. He was also wrong to say Jesus came to abolish religion. You can't hate religion but love Jesus. You rather would have to hate the institutions and organizations of religion.

@Dhorpatan I agree with you on most accounts, but keep in mind that what Jeff said was formatted as a poem and as such would not flow well if he had used the phrase "the institutions and organizations of religion." However, Jesus is not a religion, he is the son aspect of the holy trinity (The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit/Ghost.) If Jesus is a religion, then technically a belief was sacrificed for sins of all people, and by extension Christianity doesn't exist, which is obviously false.

Compare the old way religious actions were performed, look at now.

Language seems to evolve and words mean different things to different people. So what is religion? God is opposed to a form of it as clearly seen in Col 2:18–23 but endorses the pure and undefiled form of religion as in James 1:26, 27. Sorry but this video is only partially right on the definition of "church". Church CAN be described as a building. However, it is also described as a congregation of followers and you don't don't need to go to "church" to have "church". Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them". Which means you don't have to be with the walls of a "church" building to have "church" with God. So therefore Church isn't necessarily a building.
Religion, of course, has more than one definition. It also means "A belief, activity, or cause pursued with fervor and devotion." (source: Websters). So as you can see, one CAN profess to love the 'super being', yet hate some or all of the beliefs and activities that are normally associated with it, without conflict. It is blasphemy to traditional believers, but that is their problem. One can 'hate' the religion in def. two yet still embrace it in def. one, there is little conflict.

@lildupreezy This my friend, is a stupid question. The burden of proof is on the one who makes the claim, not the one who denies it. For example if you claim to have a baseball, and i asked you to provide proof, you have to prove to me that you have a baseball by showing me the baseball. The reason things work this way is because it is impossible for me to prove you don't have a baseball.
What it balls down to is this.. To make a claim that God doesn't exist is just as much a claim to know something as is the claim that God doesn't exist. Therefore for you to say that there is evidence that points to atheism , you have to do more than just say there's no good evidence for God's existence, you have to actually produce evidence that goes against God's existence!

He does not complain about Jesus once, he only complains about the church. It is clear that he is referring to the church when he says religion. Taking one word from a video and searching it in a dictionary does not mean that's exactly what he meant.

You forgot Matthew 5:18, as well as the context of the entire conversation that started in verse 1 and continued all the way to verse 48. Specifically, if you look at 5:16-18 IN CONTEXT you will see that Jesus is alluding to His death when He says (paraphrased) "not one part of the law will pass away until ALL IS FULFILLED". Jesus fulfilled the law the moment he died. That is why the temple veil was torn. All of the synoptic Gospels record this: Matt 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:45.

If you find the etymological meaning of the word "Ekklesia" which is translated to church from greek you will see it is mistranslated and does not entail an elaborate social institution, nor does he ever describe or order one, it is more closley translated to segregation or group.

Religion according to the given definition is a mass noun; Jesus is a proper noun. Jesus is not religion or a religion. However, part of the religion of Christianity is a belief in Jesus. Jeff was referring religion as an institution for the organization of many people's religion, and that the very premise of everyone having the exact same relationship with Him takes away from the personal relationship. For example, the pre-renaissance Catholic church was the most corrupt entity of the time.

@Dhorpatan I agree with you on most accounts, but keep in mind that what Jeff said was formatted as a poem and as such would not flow well if he had used the phrase "the institutions and organizations of religion." However, Jesus is not a religion, he is the son aspect of the holy trinity (The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit/Ghost.) If Jesus is a religion, then technically a belief was sacrificed for sins of all people, and by extension Christianity doesn't exist, which is obviously false.

He is speaking of the ongoing problem that differing views, even in the same religion, can cause affairs amongst its people, and that it should not be that way. Jesus did come to abolish religion, but not how people who have read Matthew 5:17 think he did. He came to abolish the way religion was previously organized. Compare the old way religious actions were performed, look at now.

Language seems to evolve and words mean different things to different people. So what is religion? God is opposed to a form of it as clearly seen in Col 2:18–23 but endorses the pure and undefiled form of religion as in James 1:26, 27. I personally think this man identified the religion he is speaking about to be the latter and hereby applaud him.

The members of the body of Christ make up the Church. They meet in different church buildings. To become a member of the Church that Jesus Christ purchased with his blood you must hear the unadulturated Gospel, believe, repent and confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and then be fully submerged in water baptism in order to have your sins washed away. Jesus never talked about churches, only the Kingdom and the Kingdom is not built with human hands, so u r wrong on the churches symbilizing faith in Jesus Christ. This is a huge error and has never stopped its apostasy for 2000 yrs. Jesus Christ is not found in buildings. Ok, we need not be over critically when Jeff says he hates religion, he is saying that he hates religion in the sense that you spend you're whole life focused on following rules and traditions to please God and man. You should watch the interview you mentioned he had on GBTV because in it he clearly explains this. So basically you're disagreeing with someone who doesn't disagree with you. Therefore, making this video is pointless.

You don't get it. Not at all. His point is not as literal as you make it. He is not saying the abolishment of religion is necessary, but that people are not understanding the concept of religion. It is not about the man made rules, laws and requisites that people fight over & kill for. Jesus sought out peace, love and forgiveness and people who cite their "religion" as they stand outside of abortion clinics and preach hate are the exact thing He opposed. ThAT is the point.

Sorry but this video is only partially right on the definition of "church". Church CAN be described as a building. However, it is also described as a congregation of followers and you don't don't need to go to "church" to have "church". Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them". Which means you don't have to be with the walls of a "church" building to have "church" with God. So therefore Church isn't necessarily a building.

Religion, of course, has more than one definition. It also means "A belief, activity, or cause pursued with fervor and devotion." (source: Websters). So as you can see, one CAN profess to love the 'super being', yet hate some or all of the beliefs and activities that are normally associated with it, without conflict. It is blasphemy to traditional believers, but that is their problem. One can 'hate' the religion in def. two yet still embrace it in def. one, there is little conflict.

the problem is did you not understand the definition of religion used jeffersons video. I agree that the word religion use in the video was probably the wrong choice. the proper word might be a tradition for hypocrisy. however with a date evangelical christians the word religion is synonymous with hypocrisy and traditions. and this is what jesus came to abolish. so using the new definition of religion has hypocrisy or tradition jefferson video is accurate. is far from an atheist.

umm let me just say that the dictionary was created after religion, God, the Bible....and the people who created the dictionary may not have seen religion in the same light...(they didn't understand it). He was saying that what religion has BECOME is untrue to what Jesus wanted...( a Relationship instead of a "code" to follow..like religions are seen as)

Atheism does not need to be true since it makes no positive claims. Check Wikipedia. Atheism broadly speaking is the rejection of belief in deities. To reject something does not mean one is making any positive claims to truth. I could reject your Doctor, but that doesn't mean I am making any positive claims about your Doctor pro or con.

For example if you claim to have a baseball, and i asked you to provide proof, you have to prove to me that you have a baseball by showing me the baseball. What it balls down to is this.. To make a claim that God doesn't exist is just as much a claim to know something as is the claim that God doesn't exist. Therefore for you to say that there is evidence that points to atheism , you have to do more than just say there's no good evidence for God's existence, you have to actually produce evidence that goes against God's existence!

He does not complain about Jesus once, he only complains about the church. It is clear that he is referring to the church when he says religion. Taking one word from a video and searching it in a dictionary does not mean that's exactly what he meant.
