Nice to see others here found this part of Vancouver ceremonies as beautiful and soul-stirring as I did. I still search for this footage. Thanks for posting (sorry for many requests for version without subtitles :) but I would love to find such a version & without commentator voices). The Canada ceremonies had such 'coolness' about them, not typical host-country pageantry (or quasi-propoganda) of many games. This was beautiful, I must visit Canada, & performer was quite brave to fly so high :)
Also the young man, Thomas Saulgrain, was fabulous! The commentator on US TV
said he was discovered at a clown school a while before he was tapped to do the Olympics. They said his performance was so moving it brought the audience to tears. No wonder he was picked to do this.
I loved this part of the opening ceremony of the Olympics so much. I've kept the whole 4.5 hours on my TIVo since then only because of this since I couldn't find this presentation anywhere right after the Olympics. I replayed it tonight and I caught the name of it, googled and found your wonderful video. It is so moving and beautiful especially with Joni Mitchell's singing Both Sides Now. Thank you so much!
I remember watching the Vancouver opening ceremony when the upcoming artistical representation of Saskatchewan was announced. I immediately recognized the music and started crying. Hearing Joni, my favorite singer, and remembering the evenings I sat together with my late sister listening to Joni's music, it was just too much too beautiful. What an incredible performance! Thank you Vancouver for connecting Joni with Saskatchewan. Thank you for posting this film and reviving the memory.
Thank you for posting this; I was afraid I'd never see it again, and when I saw it on TV the first time, I thought it was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.
Not that I don't appreciate the work you put into this great video and getting it here, but is it possible for you to post one without the subtitles? Thank you very much, and awesome work!
The performance and the song, absolutely stunning combination! Slowing down to listen to the lyrics and understanding them and how it relates, just really moves you.
As everyone else has said, thank you for uploading this. I've been looking for the song ever since I heard it but to get the chance to relive that moment of awe when I first saw it, was even better!
Aaaaah, the Canadian prairies, the heart of the continent. The place where your food comes from! When I was little I remember running in a field in Manitoba and I could've run forever. It's endless. Blue sky above, and just you....running...freedom. It was the best part of the ceremonies.
Your comments gave me goosebumps and made me feel proud to be Canadian. Although I've been living in the US for a greater part of my life, I will never relinquish my Canadian citizenship and heritage.
thank you so much for posting this, ive been looking for it on utube for so long!! it is possible u could re-post it without the song lyrics scrolling across the screen?
Hello Anita! I´ve seen you were looking for this video and song for so long, isn´t it?
I´ve found a web site in which you can see, not only this part of the ceremony, but the full version.
Unfortunatelly, the ceremony is divided into 10 parts, so you´ll need load them first. In addition, all the videos are in portuguese, due to the website tha offers them is brazilian.
I only wish they would have done the song with the original artist (Gordon Lightfoot) singing it. He sings it so beautifully. I didn't care for this version at all.
@nosuchpersonvideo I didn't know that was her. I listened to it again, and then I realized that it was. It does sound a fair bit different than the original for sure.

Not a fan of the words in the video. Maybe on the side information!

@tsjrlover Joni Mitchell wrote and sang the original version on the album of the same name.

@johndivy I never knew she sang it too. I'm sure her version is beautiful too. I always liked Gordon's version. I have it on a 45 somewhere.

@tsjrlover Joni Mitchell was the original artist and writer of the song. This is her singing it...but not in its original arrangement.
