Sorry to interfere with revisionist history attempts - but in the 70's Bolan had a huge reputation for going blotto. I saw him perform 3 different times. The first time was fantastic but the other two you could see he was losing it.The third time was in 1974 and I was really disapointed what bad shape he was in. At the time of hisa death he had however cleaned up and by all accounts was sober.

Marc was a genius. No two ways about it. How could you write such amazing lyrics at such a young age and without the aid of any substances, legal or otherwise. He was known at the time to have been anti-drugs and the most he would do was sip on the odd glass of white wine. This music came from his incredibly creative mind. Loved him. Met him. Mourned him. RIP you beautiful talented man.
@sistersnogger That's pretty important, and thanks for saying that. In certain ways, Marc was very straight and that's why he died from an accident, and not of his own doing, unlike so many other people in that business. Otherwise, I think he would be quite healthy today.

His early stuff is vastly overlooked. It's so interesting to hear his musical evolution, from acoustic psychedelic folk to full-on glam rock. He was way more versatile than we know.
I was intoduced to this group about 1975 and made me realize what is possible out there in the music world.I was 10 and was listening to "Unicorn".The lyrics blew me away.Of course many narrow minded just dismissed Bolan and his group as just weird acid junkies or such. The melodies and arrangements can`t be denied though. If acid was part of it,it served him well.Especially back then I heard few people that knew of the group outside of T-Rex and 'Bang A Gong".Just good stuff, brings back memories.
@gorgaphliaz Reputedly Marc was totally ant-drugs in the early days, Steve Peregrine Took was more into that scene which was one of the reasons they split.
I must be one of the biggest beatle fans but to be honest this Unicorn album beats the hell outta the Beatles sgt. pepper and a couple of the other albums. Great song.
How can any original Beatles fan not like T-Rex. For Bolan to come out with this material, while under the direct influence of the Beatles and all of the other music around him shows his uniqueness and creativity.
This brings back such happy memories of my teenage years.
