Gimicks like this are whats missing from WWE. That is what I stopped watching a few years back. How many times are they going to put out a guy who is a muscle freak with no mic skills or gimick? Oh look at me I am tough and boring. Cen, Batista, CM Punk....etc.
when i was a kid i would have my friends come over an i would apply the wrestlers finsih holds on them i put one of my friends in the Ted Dibieases million doller dream finish hold
Lmao his laugh, you know when I was a kid I used to love to hate those heels except edge but now I love the heels because today's faces are jokes *cough* cena *cough. Whew bug in my throat
The single most evil laugh in the history of history. DiBiase was SO EASY to hate as a kid...many have already said it, but he definitely should have had the belt. If there's ONE guy in revisionist history that should've been WWF champion, it was The Million Dollar Man.
a true heel on the mic .. an awesome man in life, a true veteran and hall of famer! thank u Mr Ted Dibiase aka Million Dollar Man for all the memories and the man that made it fun to boo!!!
I met Ted when I was like five or six. HUGE memory for me. I was so scared he was going to hurt me or something. In reality, he was quite possibly the sweetest person I have ever met.
From that day, I watched him portray this douchebag with increased interest. He wasn't like the man he was on TV at all, but the man on TV felt so real to me.
Because of Ted, I learned the concept of the heel way early in life. It ruined wrestling for me, but it made me appreciate it in a different light.
Such great character. He was a bad guy without having to be sinister. A kind of dastardly, comedy villain that you could enjoy watching and still want him to lose to the good guys. Too many heels these days just make you want to turn off, they aren't enjoyable just make you feel a bit uneasy.
@battleship423 He was for a couple of days after that whole incident at the February 1988 Main Event. Sure they took the belt from him and it was an unrecognized reign but still he had the belt for a day or so.
Yes it is. Ted even said in an interview that he's often remembered for all the champions he made, but even though he was promised the belt more than once, politics always interfered.
I bet that's what would have happened if he'd gotten the belt at Wrestlemania 4. In that interview, he said he was originally supposed to get the belt that night.
Pat Patterson came up with the idea for the Million Dollar Championship and asked Ted if he wanted to be a legit WWF Champion or have his own title that he would claim be worth more than the WWF title yet the WWf would not recognize as an official title for their company. Ted decided to be the Million Dollar Champion instead in order to create more from the fans for him.
1:06-1:21 --- Exactly!...only if more wrestling fans could appreciate that side of it more often
1:27-1:43 --- One of my favorite wrestling gimmicks ever executed & he was good on the mic too
This man was very convincing with his character & a theme that fit him too...in wrestling its all about selling and working the audience its in the ring, promo's etc and to me he sold everything he did at a high level...he had the total package
This is exactly what the WWE is like today. Before and after they went TV-14 . NO violence, no blood and not even cursing. The WWE was better from 1998 up to 2008. Now it's back to TV-PG just like the way it was before the Attitude Era. The Million dollar Man Ted Dibiase is nothing compared to the Rock, Triple H, Stone cold Steve austin, Kurt angle or Chris Jericho. He is just like the young superstars of today because he was never around when it was TV-14 just like the superstars of today.
@devilsandqueens Bro WTF are you talking about? Only Stone Cold and The Rock in that era could hold a candle to the MDM Ted DiBiase on the Mic. Thats where any wrestler makes or breaks their character on the mic... Wrestlers of today can't cut a promo worth sh*t, of the ones in the Attitude era only Stone Cold and The Rock could cut great promo. Back in this era practically every single Superstar could cut a great promo Hogan, Randy Savage, MDM, Ultimate Warrior, Mr Perfect, Rick Rude etc etc
When I was a kid, I watched the old WWF and even though I didn't speak nor understood english, I loved to watch the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. Now that I know english, I can finally understand his promos. One of the best heels ever, best wrestlers along with Michaels and Bret Hart, style, class, bar none one of the best ever. I wish he could've been younger and given us more. I would've loved to watch Ted DiBiase vs Naitch and vs heel Triple H.
wow, never realized how incredible of a character the Million dollar man was, he acted it really well. probably one of the greatest wrestling villains ever!
Definitely. I hated him so much as a kid. That's the sign of a really great heel.... that everyone hated him. Now that I'm older, I can truly appreciate just what a great character he played, and what a true genius he really was.
Wouldn't it be cool if they had Battle of the Millionaires back then? Ted Dibiase uses his money for his own benefit, bribing people. If they came up with a face millionaire like someone who is a philanthropist, wouldn't that be one of the best rivalries in wrestling?
@ColdBoi I haven't watched it in a while, but I read that Jr is now adopting his dad's gimmick, complete with the return of Virgil and the Million Dollar Belt...
@fivebearrugs Yep, virgil was back for all of like a month, he's disappeared back to the indy scene now, lol. The gimmick is virtually the same, but he can't do it like his dad did.
@Violencedefined666 Of course not: it might've been a bit different had he started the gimmick when he turned heel instead of teaming with Cody Rhodes...
Imagine if he would of signed with the old NWA when he left Bill Watts and the old Mid South/UWF territory? Gaurenteed NWA World Champion!! He's battles with Ric Flair would have been some of the best ever. Classic wrestler who could either brawl of wrestle a 60 minute broadway. Sure he made tons of money in the old WWF, but his heart, passion and talent should have been in the NWA.
ted dibiase jr. should take notes from his father on how to ATLEAST cut some decent promos and how to be a good heel. Dibiase jr. is so bland and boring that its not even funny.
I remember watching this: it's NBC's The Main Event in the fall of 1990. Ultimate Warrior put up his title on the line against DiBiase....and then Macho King Randy Savage does the run-in and beats Warrior with his scepter. I believe this aired after the Survivor Series.
The Million Dollar Man, one of the best routines WWF routines ever, pulled off because of the exceptional skills of Ted Dibiase! Now, if only Jr. could develop a personality.
Dibiase Sr had wrestling ability and the golden tongue.... the guy knew how to cut promos. And his laugh was pure genius, it put his 'evil persona' right up there with the all time great heels
@ez8195 Whilst I agree, let's also take into consideration the fact that, in this video, Ted Sr. is a veteran performer in his early to mid 40s with years of experience behind him, whereas Ted Jr. is probably only just reaching 30. Give him the 10+ years that his dad has over him in this clip, and maybe he might build his talent, charisma and interviewing ability to near the level of his dad.
@ez8195 Dibiase Jr. has natural potential as a babyface, but WWE is too disconnected with real wrestling to notice. The writers deserve part of the blame for turning the WWE into a stale product. Without bookers who know the business and psychology aspect what do you expect? At least The Rock is back until Wrestlemania :)
When I was a kid, I remember sitting in the fourth row at a WWE event. A kid in the front-row grabbed his arm when he was near the barricade and DiBiase jerked his arm back and yelled, "Virgil, get me some soap!"
met him at a church one tim. great guy had the best gimmick ever cuz mcmahon wanted him to be the million dollar man 24/7 always had money and a limo.
DiBiase once said in an interview that Vince would give him money and tell him to tip waiters and waitresses big money, or go into grocery stores/gas stations and use a $100 bill to buy a single pack of gum or a drink.
@PowerlineWC Yea it was great seeing him at the church and hearing his stories.. I would have loved having his gimmick.. I woulda been giving the Magic Johnson speech by my 25th bday.
Ted wasn't just one of the best heels of all-time, he was also a very talented and skilled wrestler. He was actually enjoyable to watch compared to some of the fools today.
@ceci4lyfe A different kind of crazy, certainly. Today's storylines are just as insane and stupid, but lack the charm and earnest campiness of the old days. I appreciate both eras' plots for what they are, though.
Gimicks like this are whats missing from WWE. That is what I stopped watching a few years back. How many times are they going to put out a guy who is a muscle freak with no mic skills or gimick? Oh look at me I am tough and boring. Cen, Batista, CM Punk....etc.

@ez8195 M$M HAS the talent... still.

In most cases it was not necessary for DiBiase to cheat. He could pin guys "clean" on his own.

These guys were great. Ted Dibiase, Macho Man, Roddy Piper-Piper's Pit, Andre the Giant, Jake the Snake. Love Mean Gene too!! Old WWF was the best!

When I was a kid, I remember sitting in the fourth row at a WWE event. A kid in the front-row grabbed his arm when he was near the barricade and DiBiase jerked his arm back and yelled, "Virgil, get me some soap!"

DiBiase once said in an interview that Vince would give him money and tell him to tip waiters and waitresses big money, or go into grocery stores/gas stations and use a $100 bill to buy a single pack of gum or a drink.

Don't forget Ted Dibiase Jr. said his dad and Virgil would pick him up in a limo from school.

Ted wasn't just one of the best heels of all-time, he was also a very talented and skilled wrestler. He was actually enjoyable to watch compared to some of the fools today.

hahahahahaha, broke a boys heart and kicked kids out of a pool, old wwf storylines and promos were craazzzy

@ceci4lyfe A different kind of crazy, certainly. Today's storylines are just as insane and stupid, but lack the charm and earnest campiness of the old days. I appreciate both eras' plots for what they are, though.
