Im a junior trumpet player and also a drummajor... For the cam to be on the director the whole time, he could have put more feeling into his conducting. And this is the song my band is playing for the spring and i know there are accents all over this song, but i didnt hear them:-(
@iTrombonist your previous comment made no sense if you werent talking about the glisses. there was no time and no slurs that were in the first trombone part and not 2nd and 3rd
In Jr high we played this song- i played snare and a bunch of ridiculous auxiliary. But at our concert David Holsinger himself came and guest directed. It was very fun. He is also a really funny guy. Nice playing. Felt like the crescendo happened a little fast. Nice though.
Lol we just started playing this one too...and i got the snare part...that's fun at 160 bpm xD i, playing temple blocks and tuned toms too...howd it go for you?
It was a good time, and my stupid wind friends still come to the percussion section to hit the temple blocks because it was the only part they remembered. Haha you just have to have quick hands and it is not so hard. And did it ever occur to you that he writes the first half of the song with eighth rests and the second half with tied eighth notes? I forgot to ask him why he did that.
Oh Gosh! At around 4:00, the french horns have triplets, and they're supposed to be B-naturals. Holsinger made a mistake, haha. I'm playing it now in my band, and the whole band agreed that b natural is right.
i played this last year in middle school. well im still in middle school. but you know what i mean. well anyway we had dr. holsinger be our guest conductor so yeah we played this.
ha pardon my french but u guys fucking rocked! no other way to put it.i play the tuba and my school played this for competition u think u can check it out? its called "The Gathering of the Hebron-TKHS" thanks and still good job
Just so you all know, I am a band director and I love that you guys are in band and going at it discussing the art! You guys rock! I have a master's and went to UNT, KEEP PLAYING AND BLOW! Yes, everybody is important, except Violas...jk. I'll post a vid of me rehearsing this with another band while getting my undergrad. The band was full of staged mistakes I had to go and hunt out, French Horns in the wrong key, one measure off, etc.. brutal fun.
All instruments are important in band AND marching band. I play trumpet and even though i love to play overly loud and bright, I realize that i need to make an attempt to balance with the other sections. Yes, clarinets are importnat, and yes, trumpets are, but i think that in reality every section is here to pull its own weight, nothing more, nothing less. oh yea, the french horn part around measure 151 i believe, sounded really clear. GJ :)
clarinets are important, but you can't forget, a band is meant to be a balance of instrumets, so the fact that trumpets tend to get the main part is because they have more of a piercing voice in comparison to clarinets or flutes, who are meant to basically fill in the gaps most of the time. every instrument is important, and each instrument balances one another and supports one another, i hate it when people decide to break away saying that a certain section is the most important in a band :\
I play clarinet as well and see them as a vital part of all bands.... including marching band! It is obvious from this performance how important they are!

@iTrombonist obviously you don't deserve first trombone if you cant tell the difference between a slur and a gliss

@q1a2z3q4a5z6
:48 is where the glisses start, idiot. There's a couple of them after that. Hurr durr.
That's what I was talking about. >.>
You obviously shouldn't be trying to reply to a comment if YOU don't know the difference between a slur and a gliss.
I'm pretty damn sure I do know. Thanks for trying.

._.
... I was talking about the glisses. I still love playing glisses, and I'm a junior now.
I just like glisses in general. That's what I was talking about.
Then I also stated that I was first part. Because I like the first part glisses the best.
You know what, it's not even worth talking to you about. You're dumb.
I LIKE GLISSES. I PLAYED THE FIRST PART. = sum of my comment FROM 2 YEARS AGO. Kay?

Then, again, I think it could just be the placement of the camera causing all the sound issues.

ya gotta bring out the low sounds a little other than that u make holsinger proud
darkthvader 2 years ago 2
It wouldnt hurt for the flutes to play out a little bit expecially during their soli.....This band could use 10x more flute and clarinet.

The Trumpets are the most important part. I don't play Trumpet and it's not my favorite instrument.
