This is so important I am an optometrist in Canada and patients can be accurately examined at the age of 6 months, He made an excellent presentation, truly a good presentation. Amblyopia doesn't always require a patch. Iseikonic lenses are easier for the child to adapt to and mandatory in the treatment of straight eye amblyopia for optimum results. Ask your eye-care specialist. and visit shawlens.com for more information
I was diagnosed with amblyopia at 16 years of age! i have gone from -3.75 to -0.5 in a few years so the age limit is a myth. my optician put a gas permeable hard contact lens on my weak eye. the most effective way is to wear a patch and exercise your weak eye for an hour or so each day. I made a pirate patch which i can fit on my glasses.
@snip84 well think of it this way, you can still see out of it enough that if you only close that eye it makes a difference right? Well, 3d movies have one image for each eye. Just like in real life. So your seeing each image like you normmaly would real life,. Think about it if you dont understand.
Hello I am 21 and have the problem can we get in touch and tell me exactly what do u do how many hours per day do u patch it because I heard if you do it too much your good eye will suffer please I dont know what to do I dont have modern therapy in my country
...Just don't let someone scam you into vision therapy or some other BS to cure amblyopia. You'll only have a lighter wallet. There is no quick fix. Also, if glasses/contacts don't improve your amblyopic eye, neither will lasik or other laser surgery. Patch the good eye, force the bad one to work. Be patient. Hope for the best.
It's never too late A child's brain has more plasticity than that of an adult. So patching or occlusion therapy is more likely to be successful in a child. If you are an adult with amblyopia noone is stopping you from starting patching. It will take a lot of diligence and most likely months of patching your good eye for several hours daily. You may not get 20/20 vision and you will not see results overnight. The cost is next to nothing...just patches that stick on like a band-aid....
@WDE789 So you're saying adults may still be able to fix their amblyopia? I've gotten eye surgery twice and it hasn't help. So My doctor told me to wear an eye patch 3 hours a day everyday and it's been 4 weeks since I've been doing that but I haven't really seen any results. Also when I'm wearing the patch I try to do eye muscle exersices 30- 40 minutes a day with my bad eye. I'm 18 in case you're wondering.
Hey im 14 And ive Had A lazy eye for years Now i remember Having Eye Patches As A young Child This Did Not Work As i Am Now 14 And i Still Cant Read Well From my right Eye And Spend Almost All My Time Looking Threw my leftt Ive Also The Thing I Hate Mostly About This is That My Left Eye Also Drifts Outwards Of Course I Get a Lot Of Stick For This LOL But Still My Friends Say That Laser eye Treatment Is The Answer But im Told Bye eye Docs im Too young , Can Any One Shed Some Light ??? Thanks :/
my brother had lazy eye on his left one his whole life till last year. he 21 he got surgery and it works. fuck this guy! sayin its too late like that asshole. i feel for yall. its never too late.
well he got surgery because he got in a fight and it fuckeddd it up and was lazy. he head surgery done just so he doesnt lose total sight. but he still had slight amblyopia but he fixed it doin natural vision exercizes. read up on dr. bates methods and follow em. it works man it just takes time. this guys an asshole. if you can see a light out your bad eye then you fix it. by yourself. remember, hospitals a buisness. they aint gon let you know if you can do shit on your own. you could. good luck
@Shishizurui I've had a lazy eye all my life, it feaking sucks! It's held me back in sooo many things. Why coudln't we just be born normal, is that too much to ask
look under nero vision for amblyopia Its not too late theres a non surgery Neurovision for lazy eye (amblyopia) ages 18-55 they learned that the brain can still be retrained to see sharper vision even them ages ...here they think its too late after age 8 based on brain development and neuro pathways look it up
WTF I'm 21 I have amblyopia at my left eye and all these STUPID doctors say it's too late! FUCK THEM. I've started exercising for 3 days and in a few months (or years, it depends) I'm gonna see with both of my eyes and that's final, no doctor's gonna tell me that I can't see with my other eye for the rest of my life. People stop being so naive, the human body and brain is capable of miraculously curing anything.
I was 7 when I was diagnosed with amblyopia. Even then they said it was too late! They didn't want to do anything about it. This was 18 years ago, and maybe they changed their views on this.I dunno.
Luckily my mom wouldn't give up and eventually found a doctor who wanted to try it anyway.
It's not like it's a 10000 bucks surgery with a 10% survival chance. It's putting a cheap ass patch on your eye.
Anyway, I went from nearly blind in one eye to full vision.
@MRbombonel Thankyou.... your eye can get better if you keep on excercising it... you have to be consistent... its like a muscle...use the eyepatch on your weak eye... and excercise the strong eye... I do this is the bathroom... at home ... anywhere in private and get sum good sleep
i hate 3D movies i cant see right when i watch but i think a process is good as get an eye patch and say you have a wii move the cursor and watch it over and over id think it'll work but tv to much thats a problem
I dn't get it, I had perfect vision both eyes until halfway through when I was 14, where my left eye went out of sync with my "good" right eye. I can read on each eye and read with both eyes but theres still a slight blurriness.
"IT'S TOO LATE....." - That last line made me CRY!!!!! But TEARS came out only from my RIGHT eye, since I have amblyopia in my left eye. LOL!!! the tear coming out one eye was a joke, but i do have amblyopia and some days, it just makes me depressed. I'm a lefty right, so i shot/aim with my left hand/shoulders, but my left eye is bad, so i'm a horrible shot since I am aiming with my right EYE but shooting with my left hand. just realized that too. random but sad.
i do have the same condition..unfortunately it is not detected during my childhood years..now i am 34 and most of the time having difficulty passing physical medical examination for a job..i can say that i can do as good as those whose both eyes functions well but the reality that i have this kind of condition is a big deal for them. but for those who have amblyopia like me..we still are most productive...just be thankful that we still have one good eye.
i have the same problem, though i don't really have any problems with it in my life it pretty much annoys me.some people say that if i do the operation i'll lose my charm))) damn it i'm 33 and i want to have straight eyes, shit
Dude.I have Lazy eye on my left eye,and I really want to watch a 3D movie the way the guys that made it wanted to be seen *sigh* I think stigma would be better.
I have this- I got diognost when I was 3!! Oh thank goodness! The thing is though, is that I do have to wear glassess, I have no depth perseption, and I can't see very well, and I am legally blind.....But I have a good life! (Oh and I also have Strabusimus)
i have a lazy eye and it lowers my self confidence so much. lately i've been constantly going cross eyed and not being able to look at people, stopping me from talking to them. it sucks
see i had a patch when i was a little kid, and im legally blind in my left eye and i can only cross my right eye, but it looks normal and my left eye does not move or drift or anything, thank god
I have a lazy eye, and I am 16. It does suck, get your kids checked for it. However I have found new information that says you can still have considerable improvement after the age of five. Even before the age of 17 the can be much progress, it just depends on how determined you are.
However, for someone like me it is very hard to be 80% blind all the time and function normally.
Also, I've been gaven 3 glasses, 2 didn't work because the eye doctors were dumbasses and didn't even dialate my eyes, to find out my condition, but I've gotten glasses to protect my good eye, but I don't wear them since it's pointless. I'm 15 btw, I found about my condition at I believe 12 or 13. Because I failed my first eye test at school.
It is definitely NOT pointless to protect your good eye. People with amblyopia are more likely to lose sight in their good eye than people without it(via accidents and other vision loss). You should look into some of the programs to help improve vision in the bad eye. Supposedly, even adults can benefit from some forms of vision therapy. I'm looking into it myself, as I wasn't diagnosed until 12 either(36 now).
