@Kcusnza It is a system. Its a system for ending up with one winner. And in that sense it would work every time, but it isn't a system that one single person could use on their own.
Hey cutframe and DB fans... As you probably know, these shows are not generally aired in the US. If it wasn't for those of you taking the time to upload these great programs, most of us outside the UK would not have even heard of DB. Thanks - Really! Unlike, say P&T, DB doesn't seem to be worried much about removing these uploads from YT due to copyright infringement, etc. DB gives entertainment with a msg and a lot of food for thought about ourselves. This was excellent! Keep Posting!
you'd have to be an idiot to be sucked into that crap. the guy just boxes up the 6 horse fields of course ya gona win but ya gona lose a whole lot more.
he pyramid concept is important. Derren bet on all the pools at the exact amount where one win covers all bets. The final race he once again bets on each. Then he swopped her ticket.
The point is about blind faith. Rather learn to strengthen your odds. 10 heads in a row. but he never mentioned how long it would take. He gives you the rules & you listen only to them, but he thinks out the box & wins because u didn't forsee another way. The system is about linguitic play with us, the audience.
As a few have already said, that lady was probably not the only one who was betting in this "final" round. There were probably five others betting on the five other horses.
@chronomitch That would have required starting with 46,656 people, instead of 7,776. Possible, but it's also possible they just placed 4k bets on all 6 horses. 24k could easily fit in the budget of producing a show like this. It makes more sense than paying off the losses of 6,480 people in the first betting round, which he would have had to do if they started with 46,656.
for all those making silly reason on how the girl won the money.
first of all, the suggestion of darren bet on all horses so he guarantee her the winning bet doesn't check out. He gave her the winning ticket well before the race started. So I don't think he bet on all horses, however I think it goes back to the polaroid pictures theory - there is a probability system, and he (or whoever is behind the system) knew the winning horse in the final race.
@Mo00X So you think it's more likely that he's developed a system which no mathematician in history has ever figured out than him doing a simple ticket swap, which any amateur magician can master? Do you even understand probability? If you did, you would realise there can be no "system" to circumvent it.
was that last one a 6 horse race again? 4000x6 horses = 24000, she apparently won 13000, but they must have spent 24000 ensuring he would have a winning ticket to give her at the end.
I'll ask you a simple question. Who placed the real bets on this one? Why can Darren "afford" to rake over a huge pile of cash to her (or other lost bets). Was the huge pile of cash really Darren's? Wasn't it the advertisers who paid for his show? Where do advertisers get cash for advertisements? :-D
1: The last race had 6 people betting, each on different horses so that one would certainly win, and it happen to be her...
or...
2: When he puts the bet on, he puts 4 grand on each horse, using the shows budget for all but 1 horse that she paid for... so which ever won he said thats the one i really put it on.
Other wise he would of just told her up front the correct horse...
1. if that's true then they lied about the number of people originally involved with the experiment, and darren was right next to the women during the last race. do you really think that darren was standing next to 5 other people at that point of progression, let them lose, then refund their money? Darren has to much pride in his work to let people down like that. Those people would surely speak up and their stories would surface as a reaction to this show airing
2. but she had the ticket in her hand the entire time. so if what you're saying is true, they either edited it and told her the truth and gave her the winning ticket off camera, or he had to do some old school street magic and swap the ticket while it's still in her hand, and supposedly he doesn't do tricks of the sort
i don't think she had the ticket in her hand the whole time. if you watch some of Derren Browns other 'tricks' he does similar concepts. he probably switched it very subtly.
I think the point about faith that he makes is a great point but I'm disappointed that he went through all that trouble to make it and barely mentioned it at all. He turned a huge philosophical discussion into a parlor trick and basically got lucky at the end. It's too bad that everyone's worried about how he did what and not about what the whole thing was truly about - faith and belief.
END REVEALED:Not only did he refund the participants at each stage of their elimination, but I bet he bet 4,000 pounds on lets say the top 5 most likely to win horses &and kept the tickets in his pocket....after the race he switched the winner for the loser and lost even money(1400 pounds)WHO KNOWS WHERE HE GOT THE MONEY, BUT THAT IS HOW HE DID IT.
I know hes pure genious.....i never said he wasn't....he himself, time and time again, claims no supernatural powers....so explaining how he does his work is nothing wrong
What happens if some people decide to just delete the emails and not participate?

It's so anti climactic when he explains the system. It isn't a system at all.

@Kcusnza That's because there can't be a real system. If there was, everyone would eventually use it and there would be no more betting on horses.

Following how The System works, wouldn't he have just bet on all horses?
eyevandrago 2 years ago
She doesn't get it. All she sees is the cash in the end. Darren could have pulled this same "final round" trick several times as well.
linagee 2 years ago
I wonder if she actually won or if Darren just gave her a wad of money and told her, "oh yeah, we actually bet on a different one."

thats not a simple question... thats 5 simple questions.
1. Darren placed the bets
2. He can afford it because its in the television shows budget (it has to be or they wouldn't have been able to afford to do this show)
3. Probably not, unless he is the producer of the show.
4. No, the advertisers pay networks that broadcast their ads.
5. Advertisers get cash for ads from the products they sell. Marketing is a large part of any large corporation that does well.

Okay so how did he do that little ordeal where he had the four people choose pictures and line themselves up and all that...???
squinty1292 2 years ago 2
uhp nevermind she did NOT in fact have the ticket in her hand the entire time
it was in her pocket and it is very possible that's what he did
but then again he probably got lucky because if it can happen to anyone, it can happen to darren while he's filming his show
coo1terkbenson 3 years ago
the system is to be able to produce this show tbh..
at the last race, derren probably put 4k on all horses, so that one of them is garenteed a winner

Either...
1: The last race had 6 people betting, each on different horses so that one would certainly win, and it happen to be her...

I speculate that he actually placed 4 grand on all the horses. How the right ticket got in her hand is probably chance.
Or I'm just way off ^_^
AsakeSaidi 3 years ago
Yeah I also think that.. I mean they have that money to spend for the show and there is no way it would of ended with her losing.
He must of took the losing ticket off her at somep point and gave her the winning ticket..
But I think that Derren is so good that he could of actually placed the one bet..
