Class from Hearns and a brave effort from Andries, no mug himself btw, a 3-time light heavyweight champ in his career.

But what inconsistent refereeing.

He let Andries get up wobbling around 5 times in round 6 then stopped him on his feet in the 10th.

Hearns a worthy winner though.

i think refs do too much, well...reffing. If a fighter gets up before 10, I say he is obliged to go on fighting. You wanna be a tough guy? Go get your ass knocked out, then maybe you'll learn when you're finished. And in this case, the guy did get up, and he kept on fighting for 3 rounds.

@Robstailey I have to agree with you. Fighters need to protect themselves by NOT GETTING BACK UP!!! I blamed the ref for the 6th round but Andries had his own personal responsibility to take care of himself. What else was Hearns to do?

I remember this fight,you have to give Andries credit too he showed tremendous heart.

I don't think the ref did a bad job at all. Those 2 no knockdown calls were probably pushes and as it turned out andries was able to return and compete. He wasn't done in rd 6!

In so many fights you see a ref dominate every aspect of a fight intervening for every little thing. This ref at least lets them fight and gave andries a chance...
