I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My father died aged 59, I was 18 when it happen. This condition can take loved ones away so suddenly and leave alot of questions. I was told that the condition starts to show when your aged in your early 20's and the person at risk should make an appointment with the doctors to go to the hospital for an Ecogram (Eco) of the heart to check the valves for any thickening. There is a 50% chance your sons could have it. I have to checked every year or two.
There is alot of help nowadays and as long as regularly checked and caught early it should be ok. Sending Love and prayers to you at this difficult time. xxxx
@IseultCharms I'm not a Doctor so I don't really know. My father was never treated for his HTCM. You'd have to ask a health care professional, sorry I couldn't be anymore helpful. Hope you find out. x
@traceyannsteele Tracey, I would have your sons checked out. I wouldnt worry; you should do this for safety precautions. My brother and I have cardiomyopathy, and my father had a heart transplant at age 39 because of cardiomyopathy. Our children will be checked for cardiomyopathy throughout most of their life. My son was first checked at age 5, his next will be checked at age 10.
I have HCM also. I had a icd installed 6 years ago. It has defibrillated 4 times, the last 2 being 2 months ago while on stage playing drums. It went off once but I didn't have enough sense to stop playing, I thought I could finish the song, but I was wrong, it hit again about 5 seconds later, twice as hard as the first time!! I decided it was time to quit then!!
I also have it. I had the surgery to get an ICD put in. Plus I am on meds. I had a bunch of family memebers die from heart problems. If anybody has any questions feel free to ask me. Im pretty kowledgable on it. Plus im going to school for nursing. So far I have yet to get shocked but still shortness of breath doing any activity
I am very sorry to hear about your condition.I am a student a a university in Texas; I'm doing a report and presentation on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Would you be open to answering any questions?
whay wasnt she given the proper care Ie: a septal ablation fitted with a pacemaker to manage her arythmias. Why wasnt she monitered regular IE:regular E.C.G's taken at the hospital or heart scans taken on a regular basis. This sittuation is abismal. At least in The U.S.A they are doing serious research into this condition and are making good the future of sufferers of this genetic condition.
The toxic shock had agrivated the heart condition to such a degree that she had heart failure and because of her hypertrophic cardimyopathy her heart went into E.M.D ( Electro Mechanical Discasosiation) Which was catostrophic. She could not be recovered. i its My belief this sittuation could of been avoided if she had had the proper care for both her heart condition and after care for her Bowel after her operation. We as a family tried to sue the local Nhs but got no where.
Two weeks prior to her passing away she had undergone a routine sygmoidoscopy and the stricture was discovered. However the consultant who had conducted this proceedure said the hospital would not be able to do anything about this for 6 weeks. the night My mam passed away she was vomiting her own faeces. Her abdomen was severley distended. She had shortness of breath too. Obviously she was in toxic shock. As the bowel was not functioning properly.
my mother passed away april the 1st 2004 aged 53 years old due to this heart condition which I may add was agrivated by the fact that she had had an anostomatic stricture of the bowel, caused by scar tissue after an anterior resection of the bowel. The bowel op had taken place 2 years previous to her passing. She had been complaining about vomitting for two years after the surgery. ( This comment is in 2 parts )
i have it. im 20 found out that ihad it at 16. i dont know what to do about it. i dont have health insurance. my mom died at 26. i was 6 yrs. old. it was sudden death right on the couch beside me.
