  • And just eleven years after freeing themselves of the shackles of deregulation, Ansett went under. They should have done what all good 'free market' loving Australian businesses do when they're in trouble: ask for a handout from evil, socialist Big Government!

  • Believers in "chemtrails" should check out 0:41. This is how contrails form from close up.

  • I just added new videos of ansett australia and ACA programe. Go check them out more to come soon. ANSETT AUSTRALIA

  • its know on TAGTRIPSTV also ansett australia sponcers of the sydney2000

  • 1st deregulation, then globalisation and privitasation , not only in the air industry but telecommunications , oil, gas, steel, ore. What did we get in return? an almost total loss of manufacturing in australia, a scarcity of secure jobs, and being over taxed left right and centre, not to mention that everything is made in cheap overseas labour markets.

when will Australia wake up? it may be already too late... we've f*&^Ked ourselves up. a total discrace.

  • TAA became known as Australian Airlines in 1986. In 1992 is when the government joined Qantas and Australian Airlines because Australian Airlines was in financial difficulties (both government owned assets). Australian Airlines finished trading in 1996.

  • I remember laughing out loud at this ad. For forty years Australia had a two airline policy where TAA and Ansett flights were running to the same schedule and seats were sold at exactly the same price. When deregulation came about, Ansett lobbied against it and then trawled it thru the courts. And THEN they claim they were the ones that were shackled?

  • Perhaps - but the only reason AN would have done that is because they knew that TN (government owned) would still get looked after as the favourite post-deregulation. Thats eventually what happened - government sold TN to QF, wiped off the debt and made QF cash rich. Today, QF are here and strong, and AN are dead.

  • sorry mate, but how can yo saw QF is cash rich! Dude, they are piss poor....

  • was referring to the early 90s ;-)

  • i do believe that was the begining of the end of ansett because the australian goverment would have saved them.

  • HA! You are funny...The Government didn't save AA...Hence their non-exsistance now.

  • If you want Ansett back.... start buying Vrgin Shares now that they are chep .33cents a share and tell all you know who loved, lived and breathed Ansett to start buying shares and then once you have majority shares then you all vote to rename Virgin... Ansett! Not that hard! 80% of of Mnagement at Virgin are Ex Ansett as to are the Engineers,Pilots and Cabin Crew....So start buying and bring Ansett Back! After all Virgin is a public company!

  • its because the government cocked up the deregulation.... evil govt.

  • isnt it a pitty the "deregulation" of the Aussie airline industry contributed to the death of Ansett!? god i miss Ansett...

  • love this ad - brings a tear to the eye. I really miss the cabin crew hats they used to wear..

  • pity just 10 years later the entire airline went into liquidation

  • I have flew on ansett many times in my years as sport from 1986 until 2001, i am greatly miss the service with ansett they are very well professional i solely miss the beautiful flight attendant in ansett than qantas lol. i never feel the same after ansett gone but i have flew with qantas with my sport from after ansett gone, I really want ANSETT BACK because it TRUE AUSSIE airlines ever in my life.

  • hmm 9 months later ill reply to this (OMG SUM1 CULD HAVE HAD A BABY!)

but QANTAS is True Aussie. . .

    started over 80 years ago.

technically the worlds 2nd oldest airline after KLM but since KLM was bought by Air France, QANTAS can be called "The worlds most experienced airline"

anywho enough rambling but QANTAS is better :D

  • I agree but Pan Am was the truly most experience airline, if it wasn't for them the 747 would not have become a reality

  • what is the name of the song used.

  • "Reach for the Stars"...? It *was* composed especially for the ad, so...

  • I still think the best piece of music that really grasped the 'spirit of Ansett Australia' was 'Storms of Africa' by Enya. They used this piece of music for four years from 1996 to encompass the new 'corporate & global' image Ansett was moving into. They used 'Storms' until the nasty/ half-assed 'Absolutley' campaign in 2000/01. This site doesn't have any of the ad's from this time except one.

  • Thank You the post.

  • Shame this Beautiful Airline (worlds best ever)died. More should have been done to save it. Air NZ Fucked things up. Qantas / Jetstar and Virgin Blue are crap compared to Ansett and Jeff Dixon is no better than a Politition, he cares more about Profits than passenger well being, even wanting to source out our servicing to China (how bad would that be) Australia has a Bad record for loosing good things, notably great buisness. I wonder if we Australians will ever learn from our stupid mistakes.

  • Ansett were going down well before Air NZ came along, in fact this ad really was the beginning of the end. Deregulation did no good thing for Ansett, why do you think News Corp/TNT wanted to sell it so badly? Although Air NZ did take on a bit too much, their own operations were starting to fail at the time of purchase of Ansett.

  • umm excuse me News Corp stripped the company for all its worth before selling it to Air NZ...they put no money back into the airline to make bigger profits n that lead to its crash. as a son like so many whos fathers were made redundant i would know!!!

  • very well said mate

  • No rupert Fucked things up! (he as you know is an aussie) before Air NZ bought it, it was costing Air NZ 1 Million a day in losses! and you wanna talk about Aussies loosing good things? in NZ most of the business here are australian, so do your research dick head.

  • @spdrca I was an Ansett staff member when Air NZ bought the second half of Ansett, we knew that they didn't have the money to buy new planes which is what Ansett needed. NZ should have let SQ buy that half and history would have been different. I took the opportunity for redundancy before the bankruptcy as I couldn't see anything good of Air NZ buying it. What were they thinking????? It was their fault, and we Australians let it happen.

  • Oops Air New Zealand Did It Again It made us believe that Ansett's in Good Shape Oh Toomey Toomey This might seem like a crush but to the Australian Flying Public It's Serious But To Lose all our senses That is so just typically Kiwi Oh Ansett Ansett Oops Air New Zealand Did It Again I messed with your Airline Got Lost in the Game Against Qantas and Virgin Oooh Ansett Ansett Oops You Might think were flying high above Australia No Longer will fly us I'm Not that Innocent.
  • That plane is one of the ex-Qantas NZ (Jetconnect) ones, wonder where it is now?

  • I dont think CZP ever went to Jetconnect, I think it was CZU, CZS and CZR. I think this jet went to Bangladesh and is now with Airline Merpati - new rego PK-MBO.

  • jetconect are now operating 737-400, must be good money in nz to increase capasity

  • Old aircraft huge salaries and problems towards the end. Funny how the Aussie Government shut them down on Easter weekend <most bookings> we all know that's the way to kill a company. Boeing had said in the USA the cracks in the engine mounts on the 767s were normal os safe. It cost the kiwi tax payer 500 million plus to pay out. I believe a major Aussie carrier was behind it. Good way to fuck competition.

  • What a shame Ansett is dead. These Days It is just Qantas,Virgin and Jetstar.Tiger Airways will be here before the year is out but it is not the same.Ansett should have either stayed with Rupert Murdoch or sold to Singapore Airlines.I still have all my Ansett Memorabilia from the final few years of the Airlines

  • I dont think it was necessarily the beginning of the end for Ansett here - the 90s presented some fantastic opportunities for AN, but the lack of re-capitalisation of the fleet, (of the business) and the purging of experience throughout that decade before the sell-off by News Ltd and TNT to Air NZ were all combined factors. I still pass the hangar this ad was filmed in every day and I still really miss Ansett. Was a terrific airline, despite it's problems.

  • You're probably right - how many competitors had come and gone since deregulation (Compass, Impulse, to name a few)...Ansett fought them all off all admirably, not to mention the loss of its major competitor...

...and which hangar would that be? (K-S? Tullamarine?, etc...)

  • Hi! The Hangar is (or was) known as the 767 facility located at AN Engineering on Operations Road, Tullamarine in Melbourne. Originally known as Ansett Australia Engineering, it continued operations following AN's demise and was renamed "Ansett Aviation Engineering Services" which still continues to this day. If you Head along Melrose Dve towards the Terminal's you'll see the Hangars on your left!
