another annoying thing about this wheel, it only works on PC. not that it's that important to play arcade sims with a 2000 wheel, but you figure for that much it should be capable of just about anything. Why buy this wheel if you can drive a real car? I bought a Logitech G27 and im happy with it already and I had enough money to buy a Lancer Evolution 6 GSR and modified it for track days which is more accurate than a 1 grand racing wheel.

You can buy a crapbox car for $2000, but you can't buy hundreds of different cars and be transported to dozens of tracks in seconds. It's kind of the point of a sim.

Honestly, I don't find it stupid to spend more time on a hobby than you do driving your real car. That considered, spending $2,000 on something you spend more time using than your $20,000 car isn't all too crazy.

Can someone also tell me where the realism is in having force feedback so strong it will throw you across the room? There's no point. Real cars exert only about 5 lbs of resistance at max at speed. This thing is as overzealous as it is overpriced and over-rated.

Race cars are much heavier than road cars. Some race cars also have a good amount of something called "kick back" which is transmitted through the wheel. IndyCars have a good amount of kick back, even the super-toned racing drivers can't keep the wheel stationary.

Plus I'm not paying an extra $1,700 for that extra "kick back" every once in a while. Anyone trying to justify this cost is an idiot. It's the epitome of stupidity.

Great review, I aggree with you on nearly everything. For $2000, you don't get pedals, you have to assemble it yourself and there is no body to it. I don't see them selling much in this recession, unfortunately :(

My G25 does everything I need it to, and for under $200. Maybe some day the Frex would be an option, but I'm sure there'll be something more worthwhile worth $2000 :P

Love Shaun Cole's analytical mind at work. The review seems unbiased, fair and in depth.

Just one thing though, the long length of the wheel box makes it very hard to have a display close behind it. I love how I can put my G25 with a widescreen monitor right behind it (which makes the experience so much bigger than the far-away setups I continously see). I would rate this as a negative aspect of the FREX wheel.

In my experience the only way to make sim racing as expensive as real world racing would be to pour gas on your computer and light it on fire after every race.
