another annoying thing about this wheel, it only works on PC. not that it's that important to play arcade sims with a 2000 wheel, but you figure for that much it should be capable of just about anything. Overall though, this has got to be the best wheel there is. Ignore the installation and price, to me the most important part of a wheel if the force feedback and this probably has the best
Why buy this wheel if you can drive a real car? I bought a Logitech G27 and im happy with it already and I had enough money to buy a Lancer Evolution 6 GSR and modified it for track days which is more accurate than a 1 grand racing wheel.
Hey 'Shaun I'm just wondring since U've done the frex force-feedback wheel are you and Darin planning on anymore hardware reviews because there's alot of good hardware which I think you could look into from frex and Great review on the wheel
You can buy a crapbox car for $2000, but you can't buy hundreds of different cars and be transported to dozens of tracks in seconds. It's kind of the point of a sim.
Honestly, I don't find it stupid to spend more time on a hobby than you do driving your real car. That considered, spending $2,000 on something you spend more time using than your $20,000 car isn't all too crazy.
anyone who buys this wheel is obviously just scared and hiding from the real thing...you could buy a low end race car for this much and compete at a local track.
Looks like an awesome bit of gear, but $2000... really? Just for the wheel? Get real.... How about they cut that in half, then use some lower grade materials where they can and cut in in half again... Then maybe it could be justifiable to buy...
FUck you toooo pricy i would never give that much money for a dumb weal i could buy a freaking CAR and it will be DEFINATLY MORE REALISTIC that this weal :D rofl
2k for a car, hmm.. wow i cant see any car actually being worth while at $2000. anyway most cars that cheap have somthing wrong with them or are just plain heaps of SH*T.
Bye Bye Frex you fucking useless schoolboy engineering Pricks! Your pathetic product simply cannot compete with the Western products now on the marker. LMAO
thats probs why the price is out of the roof.. they spent to much money developing the best wheel yet they didnt have the money to spend in the first place.. so they make the price dumbly high to make up for the loss. .but at that price no 1 buys it = go bankrupt.. thats my idea.. probs isnt the case but i think that sounds kinda real. i personally duno how or if they have gone bankrupt but that sounds to be an easy way to think of it
Some parts they used in the wheel i have produced in my old job 3 years ago. And i KNOW, if they would sell the wheel for 1500 they would still earn enough. 1000 could be problem. Idiots, maybe they would earn more money because i think if they would drop the price to around 70% they would sell much more
Can someone also tell me where the realism is in having force feedback so strong it will throw you across the room? There's no point. Real cars exert only about 5 lbs of resistance at max at speed. This thing is as overzealous as it is overpriced and over-rated.
Race cars are much heavier than road cars. Some race cars also have a good amount of something called "kick back" which is transmitted through the wheel. IndyCars have a good amount of kick back, even the super-toned racing drivers can't keep the wheel stationary.
Even then, I highly doubt an F1 car exerts more than 10 lbs of resistance through the wheel at any given time.
Plus I'm not paying an extra $1,700 for that extra "kick back" every once in a while. Anyone trying to justify this cost is an idiot. It's the epitome of stupidity.
Still, it's progress. The latest and greatest will always be expensive. Maybe this tech will find it's way into the G27? Who knows. Sure, I wouldn't buy the Frex, but that's not to say I won't be able to buy a 200-300 dollar wheel with this tech in the near future. The engineering is absolutely brilliant.
Yes, it's progress in technology, but that doesn't mean that $2,000 is a justified price when it cost this company about $100-$150 to produce this item. That's over 1,300% profit folks. THAT is what is stupid.
So fucking stupid. $2,000 for a wheel from Japan, plus the ungodly shipping. No pedals, no shifter, no buttons. OH!!! AND YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN ENGINEERING DEGREE TO ASSEMBLE IT!!!
And (the worst part about it) you have to buy it from Frex, who quite possibly have the worst customer service and schoolboy-engineered products I've ever seen.
I almost guarantee you being a Frex device this will fall apart in under a year. Some serious problem will be found with the design and Frex will NEVER address it - you may as well whistle for your money.
Great review, I aggree with you on nearly everything. For $2000, you don't get pedals, you have to assemble it yourself and there is no body to it. I don't see them selling much in this recession, unfortunately :(
My G25 does everything I need it to, and for under $200. Maybe some day the Frex would be an option, but I'm sure there'll be something more worthwhile worth $2000 :P
I'd love to own one of these , but the price is insane. It costs over $2700 here just for the wheel and the G25 is under $200 for wheel and pedals. It's not as advanced but sheesh.....you won't go THAT much faster if any .
quite a demanding wheel... I mean, custom cockpit just to mount this thing, and the assembly looks like bulding a cyborg in your living room... complicated... But tell me, is it worth it? I mean does it really cost 2k?
I probably didn't make myself clear... What I really want to know is : G25 = $300 ; Frex = $2000. Is Frex GP really $1700 BETTER than the G25. Is it really THAT MUCH better?
it surely isnt. But i will be better than a G25 (which is still the best wheel on the market cocerning value 4 money).
As he points out this is for racers without a budget (lets say prof. Racing-Drivers using it as a training-tool). Or just someone with way to much money :D
if you buy this wheel then you must be rich or have racing 100% in your head.
Im getting the G25 soon because it's normal price even though it's a little expensive but it's the best wheel you can get so far for the "normal - high" money category
It's a good choice... I'm stuck with a DFP at the moment...G25 broke down and "there are none at the warehouse, please make due with this DFP wheel until your new G25 arrives or we repair your old one"... darn warranty center :(
it has got a deadspot but in certain games such as rFactor there are plug-ins such as Realfeel and LeoFFB which when used together can eliminate it completly
please dome get me wrong i did mean to be rude i sorry if i made the wrong idea but i had a logitech wing man force that had bad deg compare to my g25 that i use 540 for raceing and drifting but im saying its more of a real feel (not the plug in 4 rf) to use 540 but like u say its personal preferance . but if its there use it thats the reasion you got it .. but what a great wheel only if i had $2,000 us .. and i do watch srt all the time :)
drifting I could see using 540.. For me.. It's car preference.. Some I turn all the way to 900.. SOme I have at 270. No offense taken and thanks for tuning in ! :-)
Love Shaun Cole's analytical mind at work. The review seems unbiased, fair and in depth.
Just one thing though, the long length of the wheel box makes it very hard to have a display close behind it. I love how I can put my G25 with a widescreen monitor right behind it (which makes the experience so much bigger than the far-away setups I continously see). I would rate this as a negative aspect of the FREX wheel.
I agree with this... people spend so much time on simulation (flight, racing, etc..), that they probably could afford to do it in real if they didn't spend so much on simulation...
LOL, pretty hard to find a good rw race at midnight on Monday, but there's dozens racing on iracing.
