I gotta say I just finished the Book for a few perfect waves and my god I was blown away on how that cat skated the system. Very interesting,how many people loved him and hated him at the same time.

I saw Dora in Costa Rica about 20 years ago, he was carrying around an old article from Tracks magazine about how surf photographers were "pillow biters," ie, gay. Evidentally, Dora felt that surf photographers were gay, for they took pictures of barechested males as their occupation. Don't know if this applies to anything, just thought I would throw it out there.

@lalaboards I surfed Malibu '64 - '75 as a kid. And I can tell you brah, there were many great surfers at Malibu. Fain, Dewey Weber, the Aaburg brothers, the MSA crew, Buzz Sutphen the list is endless. It was a brutally competitive environment. Many more showed up when the swell pumped like Barry K, Nat Young etc. But Dora ALWAYS stood out, taking off way up at second point on those 6' walls and streaking past the pack and into the cove. He had "flash" - a true legend.
