Wanna learn how to get rid of it? Upgrade your steering stabilizer. The stock stabilizers are cheap, made for Chrysler cars, and do not hold well against tires over 28" diameter. There are alot you can buy, or kits to double them (just in case you have 40s). I lifted my 2005 TJ to 4", and drove the stock 28" tires. It was fine, until I upgraded my rims and tires for 33x12.5 and then DEATH wobbles around 33 and 66 mph. It was scary. And then I upgraded my steering. All better. Hope I helped.
"death wobble" is inherent in any live front axle vehicle. It's caused by the track bar's inability to properly locate the axle under the vehicle. True "DW" is the entire axle oscillating under the vehicle. Loose parts, oversized, out of round, out of balance tires will exasperate the problem, or lift kits with a large 'hoop' shape in the track bar can alow the bar itself to bend. The 'real' fix is called independent front suspension. Everything has to be PERFECT for a live axle to work right.
Yep, a new U-joint fixed the problem. I also got new tires and an alignment, so that could have helped. If you are having this problem I'd recommend a front end inspection.
I took it into farm and fleet for an inspection this morning. They agree that the U-joints need replacing. I will know on Thursday if it fixes the problem.
