This battle might have been won by the Germans if allowed to continue in the South. But I don't see how it could have created a very long stalemate on the Russian front, which was the goal. A several months at best.
@Attila709 The Germans were simultaneously creating more permanent defensive positions along the rivers they controlled. The idea was to weaken them at Kursk and then to engage the Soviets in a long battle of attrition. Losing Kursk and the subsequent Soviet offensive made those plans meaningless.
I didn't always have this watermark graphic. Originally I posted without it. However, after often improving the original picture and sound, editing, and translating the audio, I had other youtube members rip both the edited and improved video and the audio translation and then claiming it as their own work. It's irritating having to add the watermark, but more irritating finding other people claiming my work.
@skoblinI I appreciate that but it's the age we live in. You see documentaries with 'gd_houston' watermarked on them being posted all other the place.
@otester Compare the version I have provided with the other versions of this newsreel that are available on Youtube. If anything, I am providing a better version of the cameramen's work. Nowhere do I claim I filmed this this material so how am I ripping off the cameraman? If a television network places their logo on a film when they show it on TV are they ripping off the film's producers?
its pity that the movie does not show the horror and suffering people who were living there and only joy on nazi who are ready to kill ,destroy and demolish any other country to satisfy crazy demand of sick bastard hitler
Interesting! However the overall effect is spoilt by the over-large and intrusive 'Skoblin' ID patch in the bottom RH corner. Please do not feel that you have to keep that on the screen during the whole video....
hmm the soviets lost much more material and persons than the wehrmacht....
ok its good that it happened like it did, but it was more a question of number. If 10 people beat me up, I don't have a real chance, even if I'm a good fighter.
you did a good job adjusting the contrast on this video. what is unknown to most people, 2nd ss panzer corps had only to finish off 5th guards tank army after the battle. 1st ss transfer to italy prevented this. the soviets winning the battle is a lie.
Funny that you mention it, it's true that British newsreels whether Movietone or Pathe were of not the same standard in anyway as those of the Germans--even the ones on the Stern Gang in Palestine, Malayan Emergency, or the Kenyan Maus Maus after the war have the expediency of, to put it in a good light, of understatement. The wry public school commentary is the best part.
This is probably my favorite of all Wochenschau's, and seeing so clearly makes it a lot more instructive--all the details come alive. Well done, Skoblin!
Same here, Olivenstein. A few of them stand out from all the others for both quality and content. This is definitely one of them. And you can see the difference in production values compared to British newsreels. The Brits never did seem to get it right.

Naja Propaganda eben!

the date on the video is incorrect. it should be july 5, 1943. unternehmen zitadelle.
emcclain2 2 years ago
The date shown is the date of the newsreel - not the military operation.
