FC is Facilitated Communication. They begin typing with help (facilitation) then over time become independent. The goal is for them to become completely independent when typing (communicating). David also uses RPM (Rapid Prompt Method) of which he is completely independent. RPM never facilitates the child. Two different although very important forms of communication our non verbal children need for their futures.
David has become quite independent in typing now so no one can say anyone is guiding his hands. Keep the faith and continue to believe in your son as that is the true reason he is doing so amazingly.
You mentioned he is still non verbal. Our David after just 1 year using FC is now considered verbal! He had been non verbal for many years. Once given the opportunity we found he has lots to say & at just 10 yrs old is working at the 6th grade level & higher academically.
I cannot begin to tell you just how very much your video touched my heart. While I never experienced the privilege of fatherhood myself, I would be PROUD to call David my son, too. The very first paragraph of your video was so profoundly compelling that it brought a tear to my eye. Your son is beyond precious and you have such a loving family, as evidenced by your video, that I would be honored to meet all of you someday.
