I started with Ultima 3 when it was new. I think because I was still a little too young to fully understand it and because the mechanics seemed so vague to me at the time I wasn't sure what to think. But the release of Ultimas 4,5,6,and 7 were simply huge events in my young life. I just couldn't get enough of them. Still love the music.
Hmm, I played this for super nintendo, it didnt have the part where it shows you sitting on the couch watching modern stuff with modern technology, the first scene it showed was you looking through the window seal, which I even thought back then hey that window seal looks kind of modern. I'm mind blown, years later as an adult I'm watching the missing link to the intro, showing all the modern stuff, snes idiots left it out, a major twist for me. I never knew you traveled to a different era.
this is the best video game of all time, imo. and the whole intro sequence, including the part where the gargoyles have bound you to the altar, is SO well done. they really just don't make games like this anymore. video games kind of suck now. not suck, but they just aren't this original.
Yeah I still agree with my comment from a year ago and your recent one. Games just seem to be missing something these days. While I never really spent much time with this one. I love the intro and music.
@kingcrimson234 Yes, not only that but many new storyline-including games are poorly written.. this intro is a compelling prelude to the game; Origin and Richard Garriott in particular were excellent at innovating what we now know as the RPG
That was some awesome story telling. I'm really impressed. I always wished I got into the Ultima games more. The only one I really played significantly was Ultima IV for the nes.
Great game. The only thing which is not old school is the smooth scrolliing. Even with a 486 (which came out 5 years after the game was released) the scrolling was not smooth!
This really back memories. You could do anything in this game.. Even kill Lord British with fireballs when he was sleeping and then sit on his throne. Funny that in the morning no one said a thing.
One of the best game introductions ever.. Thank you for putting this up.
Traditionally, this is called the boot up. The Introduction is considered the part with the Gargoyles. But that's ok. I still love your video. It is Awsome!! Oh the memories.
Only way to beat ultima 6, is need good karma" need to gain valor, honor, compassion, justice, honesty, spirituality, sacifice, and humility, after you gain all those, then you fight gargoyles.
Dude the SNES Ultima games were a disaster! You OWE it to yourself to grab Dosbox and play U6 as god (Origin) intended. My first ever RPG and it holds a very special place in my less-than-avatarlike heart.

@undeadpresident Actually, it reads "Kah Mani De" which translates to "Place of Sacrifice" in the in-game gargoyle language.

@EverWinterNights Yeah, that's the whole purpose of most of the games. You're from a totally different time and world. It's really cool.

@notyoursavior78 This was an spiritual game... the objetivo was to make people better persons, make them virtuous.
Maybe the world is touching deep in these days, that´s why all is going in flames.
