i'm sorry to say so, but Mr. Close, in his lecture and this Q&A, seems pretty naive, only seeing the topic from his own experience and not even trying to elevate the point of view to a higher more broad perspetive.
He is right about the lower ones that truly help and expose art and artist.But how about the jerks that dont know anything about art or care about it. Instead they only care about the arts as a financial gain and nothing more.They end up influencing museums b/c they have money or they end up creating museums.Its not the art talking in these situations its cash.This is dangerous.This is the Jonas Brothers of art with their own museums.The smart intellectual people of museums are being left out
the answer is the art market will become non existant as you know it as well as the stock market it is unsustainable
