BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) -- China announced it will begin withdrawing troops from Tibet beginning June 4, 2009. The troop withdrawal is to be completed by October 1, 2009, with all territorial, administrative and cultural control returned to the Government of Tibet. The Tibet-China border will be sealed in the October 1st ceremony, reenacting the Tibet-China Treaty of 821; a replicate of the Jokhang Pillar will be placed at Kumbum Monastery, with a promise to foster friendly economic ties.

Tibet was never a country and have always been part of China. Dalai Lama tried to hold an uprise, supported by the US, but it fail. These separatist were sent into exile. Under Dalai Lama rule, 95% of Tibetans were slaves and China freed them and ended theocracy there. US is still currently funding this group, SFT. Tibetan lives in Tibet have improved drasically, but no one focus on that. The media just focus on this separatist group and the Free Tibet agenda. It's all propaganda.

People who argue that Tibet was liberated or the lives of poor Tibetans have been improved by the chinese communist party understand VERY little about history or Tibet, because the overwhelming majority of Tibetans in Tibet were happy before 1950.
In 2009 the overwhelming majority of Tibetans in Tibet are not happy.
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama called a full amnesty before he left the jokhang temple the first time when china invaded Tibet in 1950. So he freed them all.
