Dear dancefreak ;)
No they don't use pointe shoes to spin that way, they only use those with classical ballet and sometimes modern, but usually no jazz.
Awsome you do Irish dancing, really cool, I hope you enjoy your Jazz class. Me myself dans classical (with pointe shoes ;) )
