@paddydixon you've summed up the whole thing perfectly, it really does annoy the gloss being taken with people criticising swc, he may well be an amateur but even a professional wouldn't have a made difference , off the bridle before the home straight, jumping is his weakness and the jockey is NOT to blame people! I personally feel kauto will beat long run in the gold cup, but.. Into second behind grand crus, he really is the next big thing

The whole way through his career KS has had his critics. In 06-07 it was the fact he wouldn't stay and he made a hash of a few fences. In 07/08 it was the fact that Denman was better than KS. Since he won the KG in 09 it has been that he is done. Now it seems to be LR's jockey is the detraction from KS' ability. SWC is a fine jockey who has won the KG, GC and came runner up in a National. For anyone to claim that McCoy or Geraghty would have got LR up here is ridiculous. They should be sectioned

@BigPhil1982 I would say that would be a possibility, he would definitely stay the trip. The Waley Cohens like a crack at the national too, plus horses that have been known to be iffy jumpers, like Red Marauder and Royal Athlete have,There would be a hell of a lot of horses well out of the handicap though with Long Run in a National. I think maybe in 3 years time maybe but for now still has a great chance of winning the gold cup I don't think Kauto likes Cheltenham even when he is in prime form.

I wish people would stop blaming SWC for Long Runs performance. Yes he is an amateur but this was an aggressive ride. Long Runs jumping is the issue in my opinion - slows him down. Perhaps at cheltenham the extended distance and uphill finish will give Long Run the victory but my money will be on Kauto as always. Henderson is trying to compare the two horses by saying its 2-2 and the decider will be cheltenham - even if LR wins Kauto has achieved feats LR will never achieve.

I was there that day. But I will say something quite obvious. If Gerathy or McCoy was on Long Run's back he would have won this day .LR needs a jumping lesson from JOCKEY , not an amateur. In any case, if Grand Crus runs in the gold cup, the rest might aswell stay at home.

On the flat this race was no problem for Long Run. Could easily have got ahead of Kauto (although age is in his favour and a few years back Kauto would have wiped the floor with Long Run). In this game you've got to jump well too and Long Run isn't a speedy jumper. Kauto continues to travel whilst jumping. Towards the end on the flat Long Run got closer and closer - at every fence Kauto got further away. Absolute legend of a horse - best chaser of my generation definately - perhaps ever.

time for henderson to get a proper jockey on long run ......barry geraghty hes all yours.......long run won a k.g and a g.c because hes a great horse but s.w.c is not aggressive enough on him and its showing......if connections want him to win any more races and get the best out of this horse they have to make changes.

You know you are seeing a legend when all the opposing jockeys bow down and give a pat on the back to Kauto. They gave their all but he was just too good on the day. What a race. Just think when Kauto retires too Long Run has many years of success ahead of him that horse has some serious stamina.

Fantastic, I've backed Kauto on his last two outings and I thought he jumped brilliantly at Haydock! But today he was just different class and at 3-1 today it was money for nothing and 6-1 at Haydock. I'm sorry but the bookies have had it wrong twice now and I've made a nice few quid on the back of this great horse. I think he's improved this year because he's been flawless at his fences. Long may it continue!!
