I'll answer your question with a statement: there are Swedish Lapphunds living in California US, Australia "down under", France and Netherlands, I have even heard of a Swedish Lapphund living in Africa with some missionaries once upon a time..

I am a breeder of this breed, in Sweden. I've got 5 of them. To set things straight: No they do not require a lot of grooming! And, no Swedish Lapphund-puppies born ~2010 forward in Sweden will ever develop PRA, Progressive Retinal Atrofi, we have a Breeding program that requires the parents to be either Free/Normal or Carriers. As of now, you cannot mate 2 Carriers either, but for a while, it was allowed as a test program. To my knowledge, no litters was bred with 2 Carriers as parents.

i had a bordercollie before and now a swedish lapphund. both dogs are incredable but the swedish lapphund got such a big heart. if someone cries - she will be the first one there to lick up the tears and to try to make u feel better... shes truly amazing and will definitly get another one when this one passes. hopefully that wont happen for a long time tho.

The Finnish Lapphund has a completely different genesis, and the Swedish Lapphund has a little bit more energy. But the biggest difference between them is the colour. A Finnish Lapphund can have any colour.

Swedish white "elkhound" (but we have moose here, not elk :P), Hälleforshund, Norrbottenspets, Drever, Hamiltonstövare, Schillerstövare, Smålandsstövare, Gotlandsstövare, Danish-Swedish Farm Dog, Västgötaspets/"Swedish vallhund", Hedehund, and there may be some more that are not recognized.

(BTW, there is also a Finnish Lapphund, so there are two breeds of Lapphund.)
