  • sucker punch. unimpressed.

  • Larry O'Brien would have suspended Kareem had he not broken his hand on Kent Bensons face.

  • Thumbs Up if Bill's Big Book of Basketball brought you here!

  • Kareem was a bad ass--did kung fu movies with Bruce Lee.

  • kareem is soft

  • How weak you got to be to break your hand when punching someone ? Dont forget people , this was the man that proveoked kevin kunnert which evenutally led to kermit almoust killing rudy tomljanovich . Wouldnt be surprised if Benson's elbow was just the retaliation of some earlier Kareem punch . Kareem was a dirty player .

  • YES, that was awesome. Kent Benson was known as a decent player but he was also known as a total prick as well. Mr. Benson was known as a bit of a bully in college and I guess he thought he could get away with that bully shit in the NBA....even as a rookie. He was the Bill Laimbeer of his day and had a lot of bad karma coming his way.....and Kareem delivered it to him in one punch. HA.

  • Your welcome

  • I've been looking all over for this video!!! Thank you for posting it. I watched this live on tv as a kid. Kareem has bought the rights to this video and it is very difficult to find.

  • Looks like some of Jabbar's training with Bruce Lee paid off.

  • Kent Benson is my Coaches Uncle. DAS BADASS

  • KAREEM: YO BITCH

  • Let me restate my case, I take back gutter snip comment and stand by my other statements. Kareem was arrogant and aloof. He was the antithisis of Magic Johnson who was a team player on and off the court. Everyone loved Magic. Just so you know, I supported Kareem's response to the prick Benson who deserved everything he got. In no way would any man take such a cheap shot. As far as the racism charge, Its par for the course, if you can not defend your position, its the last refuge of the scoundrel

  • @Patriot751 My bad about the race thing. It just didn't make sense to me why anyone would be so hateful toward Kareem, piling on the obscenities, while gently poking at Benson and even complimenting him on his play, never mentioning Kareem's play as one of the all-timers. How does not talking to the press, the same press that unjustly criticized him, make him what you called him? You called him those things, maybe YOU should back that up...

  • I find it strange that after all these years people still freaking HATE Kareem. Sure, he was very quiet early in his career and that was called "arrogance". However, after Magic came to the Lakers he opened up and showed his true self: A dignified, gracious, humble and warm human being, whose teammates all loved and respected. He SHOULD have a statue outside Staples Center, right next to Magic, for the HUGE contributions he made to the organization in the '70s and '80s. There, I'm done...

  • I was watching this game when it happened, and I remember thinking that Kareem had just gotten fed up and FINALLY fought back. Things like this were routine when it came to the way opposing players played against Kareem. In the same way Shaq used to get beat on every night because he was bigger and stronger than everyone else, that's the way it was with Kareem. He was a finesse guy, but he still was waaay better than anyone else in the league, so there was always kind of a "bounty" on him...

  • Awww man I wish I could find a better quality vid than this, thanks for posting though

  • Agreed

  • Kareem is an asshole as a human being an arrogant prick to boot. I am a diehard Laker fan since the early 70's. He was aloof, arrogant, horrible with the media and a complete gutter snip as a human being. That being said, Benson was a complete prick for the cheap shot he gave Kareem. I supported Kareem's retaliation, who would have just taken that? As a player, as big a scum he was he was a truly unique talent.

  • @Patriot751 Benson is a huge scum, he made Bird leave Indiana University because of his constant bullying... and apparently every career game Bird played against Benson his team won

  • @Patriot751 I've been a Kareem fan since '66. A Laker fan since '64. Kareem had his reasons why he acted the way he did, in his earlier days. When he converted to Islam he was on the receiving end of a lot of hate from the fans. He was also criticized by the press for his style of play. He was never "aloof" or "arrogant." He was quiet. What the HELL is your basis to call him "complete gutter snip as a human being?" Whatever that is. Calling a stranger that must be projecting if you ask me...

  • @jimistreets1 then wants to pretend it has nothing to do with the color of the mans skin. It may not be racism but it sure as hell is biased

  • @Patriot751 Hmmm....Do I detect a tinge of racism here? Kareem was one of the top 3 best players of all-time, and you can't say anything about him but to call him vile names, while you compliment Benson as a player, who in any other era would be a good backup center, at best. You went way harder on the guy that took the cheap shot, while complimenting the cheap shot artist. Hmmm.....Something is out of whack....

  • @jimistreets1 Come on, you can do better than to play the race card because I was critical of Kareem. It has nothing to do with Kareem's athletic ability and everything to do with his persona. He was not well liked.I called Benson a prick and you zero in on what I called Kareem. Why didnt you say I hated white folkes too?Benson was overrated and could not suck Kareem's kneecaps on his best day. Keep focused on issues not race. Read my other resonse on the comment page too. Your better than that

  • @Patriot751 Again, Kareem was loved and respected by those who it mattered most: His teammates and coaches, e.g., Magic Johnson and John Wooden. I'll take their opinions every time over someone that never knew Kareem...

  • @Patriot751 HBO did a documentary on John Wooden that was one of the most awesome things I have ever seen. I remember watching UCLA in the early 70's and they kicked ass. All of UCLA's greats were on it talking about Wooden. Sidney Wicks,Gail Goodrich, Jamal Wilkes,Bill Walton, and even the actor Beau Bridges who played on the freshman team. Kareem was a no show. Was he too busy?Did not even bother to say a few words about Wooden, a man that loved him.Typical Kareem, aloof and self centered

  • Ya haha

  • lol i just watch that now on the same dayi saw it on tv and you just put it lol lol that was quick
