Well, it IS the sound of the higurashi (蜩), or Tanna japonensis. In most of Japan, you can hear that cicada all through the summer. Once you hear the tsuku tsuku boushi (ツクツク法師), or Meimuna opalifera, you know summer gets to an end. Just ask Yotsuba about that one ;)
