my husband is supposed to be getting this surgery in bout 3 mths.,i'm worried about impotence he 65 and has already had erectile difficulties he doesnt seem too worried but i'm only 47 with a high libido. I heard it 50/50 anyone know at all ?
@heresjoje Well really it's more important to have your husband around, and healthy. Sorry I'm not being real helpful here, but that's what I'd be concerned about! Good luck, hope all goes well. :)
To' weatherboi: you Are right, thank you for your comment . Let me now ask you a question: how am i suppose to' pronounce 'prostate'? Can you teach me please sir? Since I am Greek and 'prostate' is a greek word, as almost all the other Medical terms, your advice and wisdom would be great! As it would be' great listening to' you pronouncing in perfect greek the word 'prostatis'.
The only solution to that problem is to balance very well the pros and contras. In my opinion the key is the doctor patient communication. The patient must be well informed. The surgeon has to talk extensively to the patient about the effects, advantages, disadvantages and how to deal with them
Reply To crookhunter: The operation resolves many problems caused by the prostatic hyperplasia and enlargement. Still though one of the probable functional consequences is the anejaculation. This doesn't mean erectile dysfunction nor anorgasmia. It means that the sperm doesn't go out of the urethra but it goes in the bladder.
It does regenerate because the prostatic hyperplasia is a process that doesn't stop after the operation. The operation removes the enlarged tissue, but if the operation is complete and correct, then probably there won't be any problems, since the regenerated tissue needs many years to become big enough to create again problems.
Well done. I am 38 years old and had a TURP operation completed on me 1 week ago. Benefits - I never in my life urinated so well. Before theoperation I had 150 ml urin stuck in the bladder causing invection after invection. This is now gone. Possible recommendation to specialists, washing out the bladder should not be optional but recommended for the first two days to remove all blood and pieces of material.
Opinion of the video, well demostrated, well explained, excellent training 4 None Dr.
Had this op on the 22nd Dec 2009. Still peeing blood and a bit sore but not too bad. Well worth it, but a very large catheter is put in for about 24 hours following the op to allow debris and blood to drain away, the catheter also irrigates your bladder if needed. --- This hurt like crazy but plenty of Morphine did the trick. Most people are okay and don't feel discomfort but my bladder was going in to major spasm with the catheter, never known pain like it in my life!
Chaotic resection, no landmarks used, resection being shifted from left to right. That prostate had at least 60-80 cc, only 40 removed. Anyway, the patient will feel good now and the dr will have to operate again in 2-3 years, telling the patient the adenoma reccured. HO, ho, ho
To cody1: the aim of theis video, if you didn't get it, is educational, not accademical. Peaople that are not specialists can have an idea of how the prostate looks like and what happens during the operation. For your personal information: this is the 5th year that the gentleman had the operation and he feels great, no need for further treatment. Anyway, why don't you make a TURp, film it and show it to us? Thanks for the comment.
Best TURP video on you tube...excellent job!!

What, if any are the possible & eventual problems with this surgery? Can there be blood in the urine again some years later?

Like all surgeries I'll bet that hurts! :( especially due to the fact it's all done through the penis. Males have as much problems as us females!
