Funny how people think Death created the death metal genre or were the first.. They were responsible for a very recognizable sound within death metal together with bands such as Obituary.. They made a MAJOR contribution to the scene. But that is not the same as inventing a genre haha..

Except perhaps "Florida Death" and some of the newer hardcore styles, 90% of the noteworthy subgenres are european in origin. Not just scandinavia though. Right around the time bands such as Entombed (former Nihilist) were out, there were dutch bands such as Gorfest and Pestilence that were going strong and rubbing off their sounds on others. And on top of that i would slamdunk that by saying elite goregrind bands Carcass and Napalm Death are english bands.
