  • @DimpleScot, you're absolutely right, i mean to build a high-tec suit, don't you need to be in a lab with all the necessary tools to built one, but not too convincing to make in a bloody shitty cave!

  • The manufacture of the Iron Man suit in the cave is the biggest BULLSHIT moment in a movie I've seen in a long time. It was total BS. The glowing heart thing was more BS. The rest of the movie was poor. I don't even remember the fighting scenes, and it was SOO long and often boring. Leslie Bibb was great and due a leading part.

  • @DimpleScot Really? you think it was utter bullshit? I think it was utter fiction. Its a MOVIE.

  • haha cool just subscribed this is a funk channel

  • "Of course he's the villain, didn't you see his haircut?" lol

  • It is great comic book camp Lorenzo ...your Batman and Robin are great fun.

  • I love the witty comments they come out with, and the reviews are quite textured with different views and symbolism. quite awesome, keep it up.

  • for the first time you guys strike me as being out of touch! i disagree that the simple plot detracts anything from the enjoyment of the movie. it's not trying to be "complex", instead they tried to make a well made mainstream action movie which is a real feat considering how many bad ones there are out there. also there weren't "lots of cuts" in the fight scenes. watch the dark knight or even gladiator to get an idea of lots of cuts. consider the target audience a little more perhaps.

  • I thought hell boy 2 looked okay but the dark night was better then iron man but not heelboy 2

  • I thought Iron Man was ok, Hellboy II and Dark Night blew Iron Man out of the theaters!!! Much better movies to watch and spend your hard earned money on.

  • damn right. Iron Man was awesome! well to me anyway.

  • "You don't wanna' spoil the movie" --

    "I don't care"

  • One think these review brings almost all the time is spoilers. :-p

But hey, as he say: I don't care.

I enjoyed Iron-Man, but come one it is not something for, that generation or so I hardly can't believe.

  • You guy's are really funny and smart! You remind me allot of Grumpy old man. I love Walter Mathow and his friend slash enemy slash friend.

  • The device on Tony Starks' chest keeps the schrapnel in him (from the explosion), from going to his heart. It's a electromagnet of sorts and a power source. I loved Iron Man. Keep up the great work you two. I enjoy your reviews even when you're wrong. lol

  • Lorenzo: "Of course he's the villain. Didn't you see his haircut?" I'm dying from it!

  • Best review of Iron Man i've read or seen!

As an example of the fantasy sci-fi genre it needed way more action than it had.

As an example of pseudo-realism sci-fi it didn't have enough story and had far too many "pffft, yea right!" moments.

At the end of the day, sure, its a comic book adaptation... but comic books are OTT and rightfully so.

This movie is stuck in limbo between trying to be believable and trying to be sensational. Because of this it achieves neither.

    6/10

  • Exactly. I came to the film expecting to see a big budget action-based comic book movie about Iron Man, that probably had a cheesy soundtrack and slick computer graphics. It seems like they tried to flush out Stark's character, but ended up halfassing it completely. Screwing a few chicks and flirting with the housekeeper is not my idea of a backstory. So many loose ends, and it seems like it had some decent potential. The action they had in the movie was good, but it was barely there.

  • ppl are crazy, this was the BEST movie of 2008!

  • spot on review, iron man is the most over rated movie of 2008

  • Geez we need more Geezers!

  • hyroglyphics lmao

  • "Why did I have to see something that I knew was going to happen?" People go to these movies because they're interested in how something gets from point A to point B. They're excited to see the big action sequences and effects.

The character introduction/development in the first half of the movie was really exciting/interesting. I wasn't really familiar with the character either, so that was all new/very involving to me. These guys definitely got that spot on in their review.

  • What was Lorenzo's last comment? Sounded like "clear the land."

  • "Clear to land."

  • "we didnt have comic books, we were still reading hieroglyphics!" lol, that was so funny!

  • This is, without a doubt going to be one of my top 10 movies of 2008, quite possibly the number one film.

  • "[talking about Jeff Bridges] of course he's the villain... did you see his haircut?" haha, classic and true.

  • this film is just another in the long line of cynical rasict hollywood tripe that bearly even tries to mask its unobjective disgusting hatefull view of the planet

  • You guys were featured in The Observer in the UK and Ireland today!!!

  • "of course he's a villan.. did you see his haircut??" lol1

  • This is the first time I felt like you guys missed the point rather feeling like I missed the point. None the less, I look forward to your next reviews.

  • i agree with the geezers! thats a mighty fine cane you have there lorenzo what kind of mileage does it get?

  • She essentially asks why is that people can't solve their own problems and have to rely on a superhero. If she understood why comic books are popular, then she wouldn't ask that question. Superheroes give the reader the feeling that one man can make a difference. What better lesson than that? Isn't the belief that one person can make a difference the path to people solving their own problems?

  • Very entertaining and critical review, love you guys! :D

  • HAHAHA, "We were probably reading heiroglyphics."

  • Fair enough, I mean the movie is geared at people half their age. They want the "golden age" of Hollywood. They did recognize it for some value...funny review! I thought the movie was amazing, refreshing and deserves 4/5 stars :)

  • Don't discriminate against their age, his viewpoint is valid, try to see past his wrinkles, eh?

  • Oooh you got me ALL kinds of wrong. I would never do that! I was simply stating they have a different viewpoint than younger people, but they can still enjoy films made today. I love their reviews!

  • Well im a younger person and agree wholeheartedly with their review.

2 months after the movie's release, is the world still tipsy from Iron Man mania? No, the movie was average at best and has rightfully started its journey along the road to obscurity.

  • Iron Man is considered to be the second best superhero movie ever made, The sequel is in the works and greatly anticipated...So how is it on the road to obscurity? beacause YOU didnt like? the world doesnt revolve around you thankfully.

  • Considered to be the second best superhero movie ever made? lol, by who? and no, your nerdy best friend doesn't count.

And the sequel is greatly anticipated? again, by who? YOU?? who else cares? I've seen no mention of it on TV or the net.

And no, the world doesn't revolve around me, but the opinions of normal viewers like me are considered to be of far more worth than whiny little fanboys who's unwavering support for their favourite character is akin to pre-teen girls and [insert boy band].

  • There is no opinion more vile than that of a normal person.

  • look on the internet, im sure you'll spot many a titled iron man articles.

  • OMG! You wrote for Batman and Flash Gordon!

Thank You! Those are just two of my favorite things!

I was so happy when the recently released the Flash Gordon Deluxe Edition. I'm 41 and I'm happy to tell you that I'm getting a younger age group hook on one of my fave cult classic! Oh, and by the way, this channel rules!

  • One of my favorite jokes in the Batman tv series was how easily the commissioner and police would get desperate enough to call batman. Like she said...nobody could do anything for themselves...

  • Why these two don't have a show on TCM or something is beyond me. I love watching them and would tune for a half hour or more a week if I had the chance.

    5/5

  • agree...wake up hollywood, you are missing a great opportunity here

  • no offense to them. but there's obviously a target audience that the people behind iron man were after. of course elderly aren't going to really like this movie. but i promise you if you're between the age of 10 and 40 you'll love this.

  • Well, they aren't just old people, they are two people who have worked in film for 5+ decades so, to me, their word is worth more than "some guy". But I do get your point.

  • Well, I'm 20, and I don't know who the movie was for. It certainly was a comedy film, so that I enjoyed. But the action and drama was more of a pre-teen mentality, it's nothing close to what Batman Begins did, that was for a much more mature audience.

  • All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing. The hero ideal whether in over glorified WWII movies or super-hero movies is for one man to make a diffrence...challenging the reader/viewer to stand up as well. I suprised that you feel that the emphasis of hero movies is on the sheep/ the passive victims. I think Iron Man is very good for a blockbuster movie like spiderman, and even better considering that Iron man is often considered a tier 2 character.

  • Thank you for saving me tons of money!!! I really respect you guys!!! Too bad, you're not my Gramps and Grams! My book reports would have been all that, getting As for their honesty!!! Keep up the good work!!!

  • A little too harsh on this one in my opinion.

  • I wish I'd seen your review before I sat through the 1st 30 minutes of this movie. That was all I could stomach. After that I knew exactly what was going to happen and not even RD Jr. could keep me there.

  • I loved Robert Downey was AWESOME in this movie. I don't usually like comic movies, but this was great

  • Robert Downey Jr. was THE reason I enjoyed the movie. It's going to be similar with Edward Norton in The Hulk (although I'm not sure if even Ed Norton can save that picture).

  • I enjoy your reviews very much and look forward to each one. Thanks!

    TEAMWHITTINGTON

  • As far as Iron Man was concerned, I agree. It was all about Downy.

  • I don't need surprises to be entertained. It's the summer movie season, and I think this kicked it off well.

  • Lorenzo; I'm a comic book fan, and I don't hate you!

  • Ditto! I love the comics AND the original Batman TV show!

  • me too!

i think the darker Batman is better for the character, but i also love the Adam West series BECAUSE it was so cheesy and campy. i'm only 29, so i wasn't around when the series first aired, and got my first taste of it when i was a boy watching it in syndication, but i always loved the show, and the way each episode ended had me chomping at the bit for the next one.

i don't think all of us comic book fans hate Lorenzo. some of us more rational ones can appreciate a diff take on Bats.

  • The DARK BATMAN is the ORIGINAL BATMAN. Read the original comics. The character is DARK.

  • well done, geezers!

  • The reason why people think the effects are so amazing, is because he was wearing an actual suit when he was in his lab. There is one particular screen shot with him with one arm of the suit, the hands actually glow and so does his chest.

  • hahahha

'of course he's a villain....did you see his haircut?'

    so true

  • please review SPEED RACER!!!

  • Does anyone know which Flash Gordon Lorenzo is referring to. As a kid I remember loving Buster Crabb's Flash with Ming the Mercellous. I don't know if they made a later version of it but if so who played Flash?

Years later they brought back the original version to my college. There were many good laughs.

  • The 1980 movie starring Sam Jones as Flash and Max Von Sydow as Ming.

  • great. now I have to go see it. I trust her judgement better. lol. just kidding. you two are great; just a joy to watch interacting.

  • "Of course he's a villain... didn't you see his hair cut?" LOL!! Another great review!

  • nice one

  • I agree. I'm sorry if Lorenzo had some bad experiences at comics conventions (or wherever) but truth is, the camp value of Batman on TV was very overrated. He and his fellow writers introduced pop art and German expressionism to pristine American living rooms, and we kids were jolted! Plus the show happened to feature an all-star cast of former 20th Century Fox film noir villains. I still take this show probably more seriously than a man my age ought to do...

  • Well, Lorenzo's from a generation that didn't grow up with comic books. He probably thought comic books equals funny business when he worked on the Batman TV show and the Flash Gordon and Sheena films.

  • lorenzo is about my dads age...and his generation did most definitely grow up with comics...and he wouldve read pre-code comics, many of which were more adult in nature...but by the time the series came out, comics were covered by the code...the tv show reflected that and made fun of it...and flash was a fun movie..and no one in the comics field, either creator or fan hates lorenzo...he needs to come to this year's comic con

  • Iron Man does have a weakness...His villains..

  • lorenzo is wrong...he isnt despised by comic book fans...his batman was perfect for its time...in fact, many comic book fans were hoping that adam west would have been cast for a big screen version of dark knight returns

  • Very entertaining review! ;)

  • Clear to land! Lorenzo is ye clever geezer whose wife is about to give a stroke to.

  • What about Terrence Howard as Rhody? He was spectacular, and with the other suit they left an opening to make a War Machine film.

  • That's like saying of a meal:

"Well, the chicken is overcooked and dry, the vegetables are burnt and the gravy is lumpy... but hey! maybe they'll make a nice chicken soup from the bones"

  • Delightful review.

  • "of course he's the villain didnt you see his haircut?" LOL great line

  • lol. that was a great line.

i loved the Iron Man movie, but every single one of the points they made were valid.

this movie was most certainly geared towards not only Iron Man fans (of which i WASN'T, truth told), but geared towards a younger audience. much more so than The Dark Knight, which i'm surprised didn't get an R rating.

IM is still funny, with some nice setpieces and excellent character development and relationships between characters.

  • I pretty much agree with Lorenzo on all points that the film was too predictable.

(We also did a review of Iron Man you can check out in our profile... not trying to spam, just saying if you're interested)

  • Excellent review, even though I disagree with Lorenzo on a few points. Still, variety is the spice of life.

Also, I have to say I enjoy the campy Batman for what it was. Same with Flash Gordon.

  • Haha good review.
