Hey great car, I've owned 3 bugs in my life and love how they handle. Does yours drive and handle the same now with batteries and electric motor? Great project and you should summit your video and pics to some of the vw magazines out there. Im sure you would get a great write up. Cool color and looks fast :0

@danez2ya The avg. daily drive for people in the U.S. is less than 20 minutes, thats why. I like the idea of plugging in at work and letting them fuel put the car! Take out long trips you can still save thousands of year in gas. Just switching from a moron vehicle like a Jeep liberty to a Corolla saves 1900$/year in gas, imagine full electric!
That's pretty awesome. The car itself could use a little attention to the rust and dents, and as someone said the batteries should be sealed off, but it won't take much to make that car really nice.
Not very wise having the batteries in the wide open in the back. They could rupture if rear ended by a semi. The acid could spatter and cause serious chemical burns to driver and or passenger. The back in the cab part should be completely sealed off or have a well secured door to avoid such problems.

Okay Gentlemen, I checked your other videos. You need to upload video of the controls from the driver's perspective. You don't say if you still have your converted Beetle as a manual or not, it's top speed, and MY problem is I travel alot more than 30 miles a day in mine '70. MY problem ALSO is I would love to keep up with the flow of traffic and it moves along at 70mph. My car's "certified" VW mechanic says to not go above 65. My mechanic also says "buy a faster car if you want to go faster".
@whiteribbonman1 i would guess that it has no transmission or a two speed like the tesla. electric engines produce torque instantly so there really is no need for gears other than for better top speed. as for the regular bug the stock tires are so small and skinny that they arent safe above 65. i suggest larger rims so that wider tires can be fit and also upgraded shocks. this will add weight tho so maybe an better air filter and exhaust to add a little power to make up for it
@smdumod123 A hybrid Beetle would be more my style considering how much driving I do in a typical week. How do you know my tires are not safe above 65? My tires are almost new and no one said "these are unsafe above 65". I was told 70 was okay in the cold of winter, otherwise "scarring" might happen to the cylinder walls, but I want to install a tach and get another opinion for fear the mechanic just wants me to keep below 70 for his preference. If the speedo goes to 90 it should go 90.
@whiteribbonman1 i'm not super informed on the topic but one of my best friends has an old beetle and when it had the stock skinny and tall tires i just remember it got kinda hairy around 70 like the car felt like if you would have had to steer quickly things would have gone bad. but if it drives fine and the tires are brand new that might be just fine. just in general a wider tire with smaller sidewall is more stable at speed.
@smdumod123 I agree with you on the stability factor of the tires, except not the side wall aspect. When it gets extra windy on the freeway I get pushed from left to right alot. I see it as an adventurous time when that starts. :) What top speed does your best friend get his, or her, Beetle up to on the freeways, motorways or whatever they are called? I am still formulating a possibly plan for reaching a higher speed.

I tried turning my motor off at stop lights but you have to be alert to changes. Well-to-wheel, pure electric cars produce about 1/10 the carbon footprint per mile than a gasoline powered car. Most other polutants are at an even better ratio on a per-mile basis. ... and that's with coal-fired plants. Obviously 'cleaner' sources are going to be better.
When you factor in the manufacturing of an all-electric vehicle (including batteries), most pollutants come out in the 1/8th-1/5th of the gasoline powered cars levels over a 100k mile life of the car.

Yes "well to wheel" for both an EV and a typical fuel-efficient vehicle (40mpg). (come & view the SunFoil Project Short-talk Update clip of mine ), to save 5-25 litres fuel/week... But the Car-roof isn 't big enough to mount enough PVs to achieve much with an Electric-Powered vehicle. Yet Solar-Electric/Piston Hybrid Retrofit is easy, & cheap , & it works. Enjoy...

Okay Gentlemen, I checked your other videos. You need to upload video of the controls from the driver's perspective. You don't say if you still have your converted Beetle as a manual or not, it's top speed, and MY problem is I travel alot more than 30 miles a day in mine '70. MY problem ALSO is I would love to keep up with the flow of traffic and it moves along at 70mph. My car's "certified" VW mechanic says to not go above 65. My mechanic also says "buy a faster car if you want to go faster".

@whiteribbonman1 i would guess that it has no transmission or a two speed like the tesla. electric engines produce torque instantly so there really is no need for gears other than for better top speed. as for the regular bug the stock tires are so small and skinny that they arent safe above 65. i suggest larger rims so that wider tires can be fit and also upgraded shocks. this will add weight tho so maybe an better air filter and exhaust to add a little power to make up for it

@smdumod123 A hybrid Beetle would be more my style considering how much driving I do in a typical week. How do you know my tires are not safe above 65? My tires are almost new and no one said "these are unsafe above 65". I was told 70 was okay in the cold of winter, otherwise "scarring" might happen to the cylinder walls, but I want to install a tach and get another opinion for fear the mechanic just wants me to keep below 70 for his preference. If the speedo goes to 90 it should go 90.

@whiteribbonman1 i'm not super informed on the topic but one of my best friends has an old beetle and when it had the stock skinny and tall tires i just remember it got kinda hairy around 70 like the car felt like if you would have had to steer quickly things would have gone bad. but if it drives fine and the tires are brand new that might be just fine. just in general a wider tire with smaller sidewall is more stable at speed.

@smdumod123 I agree with you on the stability factor of the tires, except not the side wall aspect. When it gets extra windy on the freeway I get pushed from left to right alot. I see it as an adventurous time when that starts. :) What top speed does your best friend get his, or her, Beetle up to on the freeways, motorways or whatever they are called? I am still formulating a possibly plan for reaching a higher speed.

@kingpin123333333 In all honesty, after I read your comment I began taking note of the seconds/minutes sitting at stop lights just idling. Do YOU realize how much gas you waste SITTING & idling? I tried turning my motor off at stop lights but you have to be alert to changes. IF mind you, if, he has a job that is within his 30 mile range and there is a charger at his job site, his Beetle will same him some massive money. I don't know of anyone that has converted their Beetle to hybrid, yet. You?

Well-to-wheel, pure electric cars produce about 1/10 the carbon footprint per mile than a gasoline powered car. Most other polutants are at an even better ratio on a per-mile basis. ... and that's with coal-fired plants. Obviously 'cleaner' sources are going to be better.
When you factor in the manufacturing of an all-electric vehicle (including batteries), most pollutants come out in the 1/8th-1/5th of the gasoline powered cars levels over a 100k mile life of the car.

Yes "well to wheel" for both an EV and a typical fuel-efficient vehicle (40mpg). Reports/Studies vary by how much , but they always side on the side of the EV when the full "wheel to wheel" calcs are done. This isn't the place to discuss the finer points, but a quick web search should give you all you need.

G'day , um , SILVERSURFING514 isn't quite wrong , about the PVs on the car-roof. It works well to hybridise the Electric system of a Piston-Engined car
(come & view the SunFoil Project Short-talk Update clip of mine ), to save 5-25 litres fuel/week... But the Car-roof isn 't big enough to mount enough PVs to achieve much with an Electric-Powered vehicle. Yet Solar-Electric/Piston Hybrid Retrofit is easy, & cheap , & it works. Enjoy...

@Baby05851 - Well good luck with that. Even the best solar cells out there (which would cost a million dollars) couldn't charge a typical electric car in less than 3 weeks. Those "solar cars" you see are essentially 3-wheel bicycles with a lightweight fiberglass frame.
