I have to say that I was a little surprised by this video. Seeing Alien Bee units, shoot thru umbrellas, and what appeared to be a kit lens used on a photo shoot with such a high profile model was not what I expected at all!
any REAL shooters and I don't mean locally.I'm still wondering how alien bees became lame or ghetto they fire not as much power as profoto but then again profoto doesn't have as much power as broncolor or 40 thousand dollar hmi s.

oh and btw there is a 17 year old kid who shoots with canon flashes that would OWN you all
i know this is an old post but darn, let the guy grow into the professional stuff. not everyone have the money to buy a $1500+ light kit. I intern w/ a guy who shoots w/ ABs and he's one of the top celebrity photogs in the city. It's the final output that matters. It doesn't matter what u shoot with. In the end, can you deliver a quality product that meets client's standards..
take it easy on the guy, all great photographers start out with crappy lights... seriously though dude if you want to keep getting hired in this business you gotta look professional and I hate to say it but AB's and an Olympus camera won't cut it, I say ditch that ghetto stuff, rent some pro gear and bill it all to the client
AB's aren't 'ghetto' by any means. One shouldn't lean on brand so much. It's about the quality of light &they do deliver in that area. Yes Profotos are better in certain ways &I can ramble on about other brands but as was stated elsewhere about this video, it just doesn't matter for this clip. This was encouragement for photographers, models and make up artist. He's doing his thing. It seems like they simply wanted to share the experience. Give constructive criticism but don't just call it lame.
Obviously the model is getting hot, and into the shoot her face gets shinier because of perspiration. And what's up with the "For Rent" sign? More ghettoness. And that lame track. Even more ghetto. You need to work on your lighting.
correct i know al about strobist .. its how i started learning to light .. .. after buying lights with modeling lamps .. it all got even easier ..

the last thing this guy should be worrying about is how professional his lights look.

hobbiest worry about names on gear, photographers worry about getting the job done.

you teke grat pics... with what kind of camera is that....
chikalamanita 2 years ago
it s not about the what kind of camera is...
either can be a medium format camera or a D SLR (Single lens reflex) like in fact it s.
the things is more about the light setting, temperature of light and many other things around the professional medium.

The make up artist is twice as hot as the model.

Jayce,
This movement has been going on for a long time. Check out strobist some time. Their motto basically outlines everything you just said.
Better lights do not mean a better shot. Light smarter and more creatively and you'll achieve much better results.

Lame.... Shoots with AB in umbrella's only thing the guy has going for him was that he happend to get a good model with a good make up artist...

cheesy styling though. that's the biggest crime in that shoot.
