@Guakingo Your hearing range is best at birth and degrades with age, but infants hear exactly the same range of frequencies as an adult with zero measurable hearing loss. I don't think it's entirely accurate to say that children hear "much higher frequencies" than adults, although it may be true that they'd hear the agonized cries of an tortured wasp to a fuller extent than the adults present.
It might have been that the filter was set too high for the the kids hearing. Don't forget babies can hear more high frequencies than adults can. My little brother plays on my synth all the time but unless I turn the cutoff down, he won't go near it...
