  • you see what steroids did to these two great brothers , and please dont comment to me back talking shit because you all dont know nothing .

  • I dont think HIT is practical if your doing powertraining, plyo, mma-style weight training, and crossfit.

  • As a trainer myself You would learn way from dorian yates because he understands the body unlike these guys no offence to the fans and his videos r filled with life!

They are so many facts these guys are skipping out on!

  • Stretching doesn't make any difference for me.I prefer warming up with a full ROM ....

  • After about 6 years of training, I'm looking into HIT training, but MM's approach is way different than DYates'... Yates starts with decline Mentzer with incline, Yates does 10-12 reps Mentzer does 4... Mentzer's routine just looks really weak, also Yates does chest and biceps, Mentzer does chest and back and Yates still looks like a beast and Mentzer looks like shit... No dis to him or fans, just trying to figure shit out and pick a routine for my HIT training

  • So absolut NO cardio???

  • hate to say it but mike just seems miserable sometimes

  • is he natty?

  • I don't stretch and I'm more flexible than ever because of full ROM

  • has anyone ever done this with just by themselves? no spotters or trainers?

  • @jaydarenegade Yes, I have done HIT or Heavy Duty for years.

But of course, never go to momentary muscular failure on exercises such as the squat or bench press without a spotter or the use of a power rack ... never.

  • "This is not weight throwing this is weight lifting!" I feel like saying that to a lot of gym assholes I see every time I hit the gym. Classic!

  • Anybody know the name of the music?

  • @saleh1990 "Sandstorm"

  • @torque122 Dont think its Sandstorm

  • I know this is a little off topic, but one thing that has helped immensely is drinking a cup of coffee before the workout. This helps prevent major soreness post-workout. I read about this a year or two ago and it either works or it creates a great placebo effect because my soreness was cut down drastically once I started this routine....just an FYI

  • @fromanotherstar I think their might be some merit to that. I think the caffeine or something in the coffee acts as a natural anti- swelling agent kind of like ibuprofen

  • I respect Mr Mentzer, may he rest in peace, but IMHO, and many others, think he went a little too far with his ideas on training frequency.Training once every 6 days will only make you lazy and out of shape. And his choice of exercises never seemed to vary, aside from his consolidation routine. You WILL adapt to whatever stress you impose on your musculature.Homeostasis is a bitch,.Periodization, progressive resistance, and exercise variation is key- not epistemology, and rants about Ayn Rand.

  • @bfar74 Tell that to Dorian Yates who gained 15lbs in one year due to Mentzer's approach and personal training.

  • @reggiearsekicker Hi man. I saw in a couple of videos here were Dorian was asked about weather he was trained by MM or not, and he always answeres that he trained with him briefly with him and that MM induced him to cut down the volume even more-he was already training with fairly low volume.

  • @reggiearsekicker And he also explained that those 15 extra pounds came from not overdoing the cardio and diet, thus he didn't sacrifice as much muscle that year. But I don't think he ever did heavy duty, if that's what you were trying to said and I got you correctly.

  • Zane recommends to strech

    Mike not to strech

You have a Zane fellow here..

  • @Enanurri The current recommendations I encounter most often (with a level of support from research that I unfortunately do not know) are to not stretch prior to a strength workout, but do stretch afterwards. It's being claimed that stretching beforehand weakens muscle, and actually puts it at greater risk of injury - while stretching after can decrease soreness and help maintain flexibility. At least that seems to be the current thought! Mike and Frank are my two favorite bodybuilders.

  • @Tigerpaws9097826 This changes very frequently, but you are mostly correct. Static stretching is not recommended as it loosens the joint and tendons, however ballistic stretching is recommended as it warms up and begins strengthening the muscle itself. Action oriented stretching before, static holds afterwards to release some lactic acid and minimize injury.

  • @TeeJoe18 yes it is the best way. And yes mike always trained this way, same with Dorian Yates. Anyone can pick up a heavy weight n have no control of the negative and using momentum to get it up. This is THE BEST way to train, I'll do it till the end.

  • Just watching this video (again) for some inspiration for my workout tomorrow morning. It has to be said Markus made a damn good student an executes these HIT sessions like you should. HARD!

  • Sorry but I don't think lifting the weight deliberately slow ( 4 seconds positive and 4 seconds negative) is the best way to stimulate optimum muscle growth. I've seen a couple of HIT guys who lifts that way in my gym and they're all scrawny. I think lifting slow is for endurance not for muscle growth. Even Mike Mentzer never trained that way during he's competitive years.

  • Heavy Duty 4ever!!!

    Great Mike!!!

  • I've been training for 4 years now. Came home 30 minutes ago from the gym (before I watched this video), and now, my chest have never been pumped so hard after trying this kind of exercise. At first it seemed like this would be light. But after 15 minutes of chest, now when I'm sitting in front of my computer I feel what STRESS I made to the chests. AWESOME !!!

  • @WesMantO0th Haha!! What a badass

  • @WesMantO0th that's because once Mentzer goes through a leg workout with him he knows he won't be able to walk

  • Why is it that these trainers are never that big? If they know how to do it why don't they use it.

  • @chevelle1258

look up mike Mentzer, he wasn't in shape here, but he is a former Mr. Universe, and the only Mr. Universe in history to win that contest with a perfect score

  • @chevelle1258 This trainer competed against some of the best body builders in the world, i wouldn't listen to him either....

  • Was that Wilford Brimely talking at the beginning?

  • Mike was an intelligent man, and his followers are intelligent you can see that by the comments posted on this video

  • freggin marcus, i love this guy xD

  • I've been a long advocate of Max-OT, but HIT is as good (based on my experience)

  • should i do it like this monday- chest and back. wednesday..legs friday delts triceps and biceps ??

  • @Necr0pha4gist deppends on your recovery ability. if u can improve (more reps or. weight ) on regular basis with that frequency than yes

  • @Necr0pha4gist If you consider Marcus is on a six day recovery and I would describe him as genetically formed to build muscle, then this will serve as a rough idea. Best way to find out is through experiencing the workouts, keepng an accurate diary and always perform the reps with consistent cadence or else your diary won't be totally accurate. If you go to your next workout and struggle to beat your diary, you either over trained or didn't eat and sleep very much or all three. I rest 7 days now

  • plz song name 0:05 ??? plz plz!

  • 15 minutes for chest and back ? oh my god...

  • Arnold made me lift but Mike kept me on lifting. I have a mustache that I comb everyday dedicate to Mike.

  • Everyones a sceptic? I was too. My mate kept raving about HIT and I kept thinking it was rubbish. Having vast experience body building but not neccessarily achieving anywhere near my potential. Then I approached HIT with an open mind. I bought "High Intensity Training The Mike Mentzer way" Heavy duty 1 & 2 and the DVD you see here with all three workouts. I read, re read and understood all the principles. Two months later and iv'e gained 6lbs of muscle and lost 3% of the limited body fat I had

  • @3swaad4 I was VERY skeptical about HIT. I've been lifting weights for 20 years and figured I'd tried it all. I tried this method of training to do nothing else but prove that it doesn't work. How wrong I was. I was left pumped and sore after every workout. I've made more gains in 3 months of this style of training that I have in the last 20 years. Very sad that Mike isn't with us any more.

  • It's sad, watching this video you'd think Mike was never a bodybuilder by the way he looks. But he used to have an incredible physique. It's too bad he had so many problems in his life

  • @WesMantO0th and not even between the lines lol

  • Strangely for a guy advocating not wasting time, Mike just wasted a third of the video just talking about Mr Reinhardt's lack of sociability... It's true, guys who just come to the gym to talk shit and check out chicks should have their ass removed. But I believe a certain amount of socializing is important to stay relaxed and keep the cortisol levels down...

  • It's hard not to be impressed by a guy who warms up on a bench press machine with nearly the entire weight of the stack!

  • Mentzer is a gangster

    legend, thanks mike

  • The best training... Heavy Duty is for me. Mentzer is a genius!

  • someone answer this question!!!

does HIT recommend taking 6 days rest between each bodypart workout or between each workout, PERIOD? i.e. do chest and back, rest one day and legs the following day, or train chest and back wait 6 days, then train legs?

  • @PacificSurgeNJ 3 days or more of rest with no workouts PERIOD. Not just between body parts. Do your workout then don't touch a weight for at least 3 days.

  • Mike is a legend ! I use HIT and it works ! I mainly do compound movements and my overall strength/size has increased whilst training natural. I would advise all people to view Mike Mentzer workouts and you can gain muscle without having to spend endless hours working out doing counterproductive sets !!

  • Mike died at the age of 49, Ray died just two days after discovering Mike's dead body in the very same apartment due to heart failure.

  • i'm not trying to be a dick but why would your first Main exercise be PEC DECK? this is an isolation exertise that mainly sculps and tones the muscle, this would waste valuble energy when performing a main compound exertise like bench press/dumbell press in which you should be starting with!

  • Comment removed

  • @PartyWood I think the principle MIke relied upon in this practice came from the thinking of Arthur Jones (the inventor of Nautilus equipment). The idea is first to place stress solely upon a single muscle group, without assistance from other parts of the body, to pre-exhaust the muscle; then, you hasten to a compound exercise stressing the same muscle group to squeeze more effort out of it with the assistance of other bodyparts (say, triceps and shoulders helping the chest in a bench press).

  • its really sad to see such a legend like mike looking like he is a 100 years old. His voice trembling and hands shaking. what a legend tho

  • Weight lifting less is better, trust me. I've been doing this Mike Metzer thing for a year and have been charting every week with my trainer who is a firm believer in Mikes strategy, and I have been increasing my strength and weight every since I started. It's all about having good Mechanics, Form, Flexibility, period. I do chess, back, dead lifts every 3 weeks too.

  • Is that Mike narrating in the beginning?

  • when he does this training he doesnt train until next hit training next week ??

  • man ,i love mike mentzer, but the intro to this although true,is hilarious,i train the same four second on the negative way and ive made really great gains, even though people look at me and wonder how is he so big when he lifes average weights,as mike and dorian says its all in the form, positive pause and negative all under control,so few train that way because its so much harder and requires much more metal concentration into what your doing.wish i had trained like that back in the day...

  • Mike and his brother ray mentzer both died from genetic heart disease 2001 same as their father had

  • Did Mike have back problems??

  • @t5239857289578947594 Yes, I know he had a couple of surgery done to it. That's why when he does his personal training he has an assistant or 2.

  • Started this today, the bloody incline bench was broke so i just did flat, thats still good tho yea? Say when its fixed would one do incline and then maybe flat afterward, or would that be too much?

  • Mike and Ray about to own that dude.

  • name of song?

  • SErge Nubret.

  • @0587dave

it does work i can attest to that u gain muscle very quickly but it more like 30 mins not 15 lol they are exaggerating

  • holy shit mike and his brother ray sure look different then what im use to seeing them ll in this video mike will alway be the best and bodybuilding will miss him and his brother

  • so hes saying NOT to stretch? I was always told to stretch b4 my workouts!?!?! anyone?

  • @sellyintegra

Actually, do warm-up sets before working out, do stretches AFTER workout.

  • @sellyintegra frank zane says stretch before during and after workout .and i think hes the fittest bber that ever lived .

  • @sellyintegra

Stretching weakens muscles in the very short term, so it is best not to stretch before a heavy weights workout. Its always good to stretch after a workout and I personally do active and more intense stretches on my off days to stop my muscles shortening and tightening which can lead to injury.

People often forget that tendons and ligaments don't strenghten as rapidly as muscle tissue and stretching really helps with that.

  • @sellyintegra his method is in and out. stretching cold isnt good, so stretching after when your muscles are already stretch is safer and more effective.

  • @sellyintegra thats what i was told growing up also. but when you stretch your braking down muscle fibers and that will make you weaker for your workout. never stretch a muscle when its cold, after the workout is what i recommend.

  • @sellyintegra You should always stretch. Static stretching is not so good before a workout but dynamic stretching is vital to avoid injury. Also you should always warm up. It's all about injury prevention. Yes you will use up some energy but that's better then tearing a rotator cuff. Mentzer did have some useful tips in his teachings but a lot of it was rubbish.

  • @AAAngus1 clearly you know nothing about bodybuilding and stretching you need to study more.

  • @AAAngus1 you clearly don't know what you have writing here maybe you need some proper studying on the subject what mikes referring to is absolutely correct.

  • A person with common sense understands that what Mentzer preaches is the truth. And if you transfer what he says into cardio workouts as well you will get amazing results as well.. eg boxing, mma etc

  • 15 minute work out! ?

  • Awesome trance music, would anyone happen to know what song or artist?

  • Looooove Mike Mentzer!

  • @0587dave Dorian started training with heavy duty, the original version, which sometimes went up to 6 sets per bodypart. Still a lot less than others. His frequency was changed to allow for recovery and he made outstanding progress. Eventually he got down to one set per ex. amd I suppose with his attention to every aspect it meant that he had to do several sets per bodypart. Dorian proved that u can win mr o doin just heavy duty.

  • What's up with Mike's voice?

  • is this routine just 1 body part aweek

  • Menzer was a game-changer.

  • buen video, increible, me gusta, sube mas asi, gracias

  • "first he starts fraternizing, which only serves to divert him from the proper mindset, one in which the focus is activity"

So true. Can't stand people who go to the gym just to soothe their mind and then spend their time there chatting, also wasting the time of people who actually have come there for a real workout.

  • Instructional videos are going to have some "instruction" so people know what to do, who do not know what to do exactly. If you know what to do then you won't be the one talking so, we know who you are!

  • @L1febringer i know, not only chatting, but sitting and chillin on the benches...

  • @L1febringer There are always fuckers that do that and I really do hate that !

  • Comment removed

  • @L1febringer totally agree.I hate when people talk to me and I cant get away from them.My interest slips and end up leaving the gym mid workout.

  • @L1febringer

    lol true

  • @L1febringer MP3 player in and act like your there alone.

Can't stand the folks that sit on the machines for ages taking a rest either

  • @L1febringer no the worst is people who carry their phones with them AND then work out while on the phone.

  • @L1febringer

Yeah and they break your focus too. I was trying to concentrate on box squats and I hear people next to me screaming with laughter.

  • @L1febringer virgin, i go to the gym to lift, but also socialize and meet tons of girls.

    u mad?

  • SUPER GOOD VIDEOS ! MIKE LEGEND !

  • dude please tell me the name of the songs u use in this video

  • BEAST!!
