I grew up to this dude on the radio. Some other great voices I admired also were. Tommy Hunt (Human) Chuck jackson (I Don't Wanna Cry) and Walter Jackson, Toussait McCall. If you like old R&B, these guys are on youtube. Treat yourself.
Bless Johnny Adams. these uniquely timeless contributions to the indomitable mosaic of human expression... Courage, compassion and loves immortal soul.
One of my top 5 singers of all time. Give him a great song like 'Reconsider Me', he would own it. Congratulations on your Grandpa Miss Sydnie. What a voice.
Back in the 60s, this song was covered by a white guy named Narvelle Phelts (or something like that), and no one heard Johnny Adams sing it. Fortunately, my best friend was a black guy who knew his popular music, and he gave me an education.
The first time I took my brother to see Johnny live , he said. "If this guy's so great, why is he doing Tom Jones covers?' Then I explained that Tom Jones was doing Johnny Adams covers. The greatest voice to ever come out of New Orleans.
Fantastic song. I found Johnny after watching an interview on youtube with Aussie music great Jimmy Barnes.
His recent album The Rythym and the Blues features this song Reconsider Me and he encourages people to research the original artists..which I have done to my delight. search Jimmy Barnes The Rythym and the Blues on you tube.

I am using this song to try and find my love lost 39 years ago. If he actually finds this announcement in the newspaper he will understand my heart. Thanks Johnny. You belong in the hall of fame and on every radio station known to man (and woman).
@soulsetsmysoulonfire The last record was "Nothing takes the place of you"Check out the version of Toussaint McCall also.I think you will like it even more than this one.
I've got 2 lp's of this amazing great singer, and I really appreciate these records, please, try to find his "release me" version and listen, it's simply great.
I've never haeard of him before. I had a look on Wika'p and he started as a gospel singer. Started recordiing etc., and was known as The Tan Canary because of his vocal range. Amazing voice. Sadly died in '98.Nice one Tim.

Bought this CD on Amazon. So many songs to reminisce.
He had such a range in that voice. He wasn't given the credit or air- time he deserved.

I saw this great man years ago with another local New Orleans artist names Snooks Eaglin at Rock and Bowl. It was a night I will never forget.

Johnny Adams was a singer that will live on through his music - this was a guy that sang through his heart!

Johnny Adams is the Man, And although Tom Jones sounds like him I don't think Tom can hit the falsetto the way Mr. Adams does in " Reconsider Me".
