  • Now I know why my father(who is one of the toughest guys I know in my life) was scared to death of this guy as a child,THIS CRAP WILL GIVE YOU NIGHTMARES!!

  • scene went on too long. That long reaction shot of Ned is comical. Great jump scare though.

  • Count Orlok and Kurt Barlow are without a doubt the scariest vampires of all.

  • Barlow was a mute, so all he did was screech and moan in the movie (which added a great effect in making him seem less human and more.....monster)

  • Barlow is the scariest vampire of all, save Dracula.

  • scariest vampire, along with nosferatu

  • It is, or was! :-)

  • Is it me or is the face Ned Makes when he sees Mr Barlow funny as hell??

  • Why does Barlow make that noise at the end, "Mmm Mmm Mmm!" lol

  • Hmm... the door opened...

    BRAWAWAAAH!

HOLY SH- pppfft... ppfffftttt... HAA HA AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH! His face. Just the greatest shock moment ever!

  • This is stupid, real vampires are hot and sparkle and have personal trainers and drink blood lattes.

Dumb shit for old grandpas that live in their own basements.

  • LoL,that scared the shit out of me. I'm kind of ashamed to say I've never seen this miniseries. Need to track it down.

  • i watched this when i was 10 it terrorized me for like 8 months no lie haha

  • @andrewtheanimal92 same here lol barlow used to give me nightmares lol

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!

    no. seriously. HOLY CRAP!

  • Very sexy

  • Ahhh!.

I thought this was going to be a prison rape scene.

  • Beauty is skin deep

  • MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!

  • FUUUUCCCCKKKK

  • Shit, I remember watching this scene as a kid. It scared the bejesus out of me.

  • Uuuuuuuuuuh!

  • Twilight fans suck dicks

  • @bufuman Not really. I suck dick and I hate twilight.

  • Ken Barlow

  • god everyone shut up about hating twilight. you're all gay as hell.

  • HOLY SHIT...that's fucking scary! Now thats what u call a real vampire, none of this gay ass twilight bullshit

  • @hackett152332 Barlow is by far the one of the most original vampires

  • Tobe Hooper was a genius, he totally understood what horror is. Build up the menace and suspense to breaking point then unleash the undiluted terror. Not some pretty boy being half heartthrob/half vampire. No! pure malevolent evil.

  • Barlow, kill edward cullen

  • Shhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. 0.0

  • Wipes his eyes.....BAAAAAAAAHH!!!

  • i need to sick this kurt barlow fellow on my bad as hell nephew .

  • Great scene from a classic film.

  • Shit myself first seeing this scene as a kid.

  • @fulcilover Yeah I did too! i still recon its possibly one of the best vampire films ever made! This scene gets me every single time!

  • Kin ell.... King of all screamers!!!!

I too had many months of nitemares as a child.. And always closed my window and curtains lol

  • I love Mr. Barlow, he is so cool. I also love Pennywise. Hmm which one will I pick?

They are both so cruel, but so handsome. I am going to have to take some time on this. Ha.

  • Jesus, Barlow is still a scary as hell vampire. (Completely different from the book, where he was a Dracula-style vampire who was in love with the sound of his own voice, but pretty damn effective.) It also helps that Reggie Nalder, the actor who played him, was pretty creepy without makeup (see him as the assassin in Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much" for an example).

Show this to a bunch of Edward Cullen fangirls and enjoy the instant therapy bills you cause.

  • Fuck edward, now this is hot.

  • This scared me so fucking bad when I was a kid.....omfg. I haven't even watched it yet, lol.

  • @cr199 I watched this with my father when I was 6. I had nightmares of vampires for literally 6 months afterwards, and had serious trouble sleeping over that period. Needless to say, my mother was a bit pissed at my father for letting me watch this.

  • @wlmason73 I was probably the same age or a little older when my dad showed it to me. When it popped up I turned and stared at him for maybe a second or two and then busted out in the most uncontrollable crying/screaming ever. This is serious shit, haha.

  • @wlmason73 Some I'm not the only little kid-now adult who was tramatized by this movie

  • I still cannot watch this scene. It scares the living bejeezus out of me every time.

  • The only movie/TV show that genuinely scared me as a kid.

  • God damnit that scared the shit outta me

  • i nearly broke the laptop when i jumped off the chair. jesus crist!

  • me cage del miedo jajajaja buena película

  • This is where the movie strays from the novel. I never understood this scene and what James Carville visiting a jail cell had to do with vampires.

  • @thegorn68 It's a jump scare...

  • @thegorn68 LMFAO!!

  • ohh this isn't the movie :o( -- was wondering why I didn't remember this part haha.

  • @711Seeker Argh.. just looked it up and there wasn't a movie! So that scene I remember is from one of the episodes!? Wow it really must've spooked me.

  • the only scary movie that has stuck w/ me since seeing it when I was young. Except the part I remember most is the boy floating up to the window tapping it. *shiver*

  • @711Seeker Me too! I don't think i've ever quite got over the window tapping, 20 years on. The one sitting in the rocking chair creaking and waiting wasn't much nicer either.

  • now this is what i call a vampire. none of that edward cullen pretty boy nonsense lol

  • frightened the life out of me as a child

  • holy shit that's still as scary as ever

  • This was Horror without the CGI Crap !

  • Barlowe was played by the one and only Reggie Nalder

  • Riiiiiiight and back to my drawers to get a clean pair of boxers

  • Still scary, after all these years!

  • Phaha the actings awful!

  • @SarahCullen19 LOL; coming from a girl who's put her last name as 'Cullen'? Twilight is full of sparkly, pretty-boys who are more worried about messing up their hair than anything else.

  • @SarahCullen19

Yes,yes,as you say...This is a horror movie, not that crap called "Twilight"!

  • After twenty odd years of never seeing this, I think I've just fucking shit myself.

  • Holy monkeybollocks! Even Buffy would struggle against this fucker!

  • In this screen version of Salem's Lot, Barlow's appearance is a homage to Count Orlov in the 1922 vampire movie Nosferatu. Not only does Barlow physically resemble Orlov, Barlow is mute. His lack of speech pays tribute to Nosferatu, a classic silent film noir.

  • @elrond70 Yes...and what a great monster Mr. Barlow was...it helps a bit that character actor Reggie Nalder was a tad frightening BEFORE he was put in this effective makeup...I worked with a dude who's last name was Barlow, and I'd do my best James Mason to talk to him...

  • @joeyvader

"Back, holy man! Back, shaman, back, priest! Face the master!"

  • that scare the s*** out of me!!!!! I hate you!!

  • Holy Shit!! that creeped me out!!! O_O

  • BOOOWWAAAARRRGGGHH....

  • Salems lot is an awesome book. And it gives you the chills, alot actually.... But this scene is scarier than any of those chills. God i hate this guy :( I just kicked with both my legs into the desk and landed in the wall behind me. It was that scary.....

  • "HHHUUUURRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Still to this day, Barlow's growls, as well as his ugly face, scares me (even in my sleep)

  • that nigga looked like shit.

  • I just jumped a mile! Totally forgot he appeared like that. Damn.......

  • When i first saw this scene ALL them years ago, i had to hide behind my big brother. THE UTTER TERROR THAT I FELT AT THE TIME...Almost shat myself..love it.

  • What an ugly bugger! He scared the shit out of me! I certainly wouldn't go on a date with that!!

  • HOLY FUCK! I even read what time it was gonna be at and I still flew backwards against my chair!

  • @ 44 secs , shit your pants

  • bringing up twilight in every vampire clip is only making it more famous.. and vampires aren't real, writers can do whatever they want to the vampire mythology. Anne Rice's version of vampires is different than stephen king's version, and stephanie meyers has her own version of vampires.

  • Great vampires in this series, good to see a 'proper' vampire instead of the wussy, emo rubbish that we get served these days in insipid movies like the Twilight series.

  • I'd love to see Edward Cullen take on Kurt Barlow

  • @quietcrowd Edward would attack Barlow with his can of mousse, then Barlow would snap Eddie's vertebrae like a twig and rip him in half.

  • @hoibsh hahahahahahahahahahahaha XD>

  • Sent a cold chill through my entire body, very creepy, however his reaction was laughable

  • HOLY SHIT I JUMPED OFF MY SEAT AND SCREAMED. i was thinkin " theres no way a 1979 film can scare me...i mean cmon" BUT I WAS WROOOONNNGGG

  • jesus, I almost pissed myself.

you know what I'd like to see? edward getting ripped apart by this guy, I would give my left nut for that

  • @mdude009 lol i totally agree

  • that guy was so fuckin scared, he couldn't scream ...i dont blame him cuz i would probably shit myself lol

  • 0:44 lol

  • 0:45 i was shitn my pants since i saw that hore

  • Mr. Barlow = Barry Soetorro. AKA Barack Obama!!!

  • this scared the crap outta me when i was a kid

  • @chriskargbo

I hate admitting this but this scared me crapless right now.

  • @chriskargbo Me too. Still freaks me the hell out. Twilight vampires are a joke.

  • Still the scariest vampire ever created for cinema. I saw it as a kid on T.V. And now again. Same effect, 7 foot vampire is scaryI am going to be Mr. Barlow for halloween This year, fuck it! As for Twilight it makes Vampires everywere want to run into a stake!

  • last time i saw this i was about 12 and i shit my drawers

  • Oh my god that was terrible.

    And hilarious.

  • beautiful and facetious, at the same time!

  • My grandma said she watched this when it was a TV series in the late 70s, she was on her own in the dark and has never screamed/jumped so much in her life, I laughed at her and then did exactly the same when I watched it! bloody scary and realistic (if vampires where real) for 1979! :O

  • @JordanEmonds ehhehe my parents let me watch this film in 1979 when I was just 6 years old, what were they thinking? looooool I fell off the sofa and didn't know where to run, then laughed about it days later, still love this film

  • @JordanEmonds cool story.

  • Holy shit!!! I screamed so loud that I woke up the neighbour's baby!

  • whos scarier Barlow or Max Shreck?

  • @turtlen Barlow.

  • @turtlen Max. I love Barlow but max will forever haunt my nightmares.

  • @turtlen barlow any day. scariest fuggin vampire ever made.

  • I wish Blade was here in the movie

  • Excellent! THIS is what a vampire should be. Before Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, in historical lore, vampires were reanimated corpses, perversions of the life & death cycle, or evil creatures that may have once been human. This movie captures that essence. Twilight is a piece of ~@%*

  • @TainoMantis Well, actually they based Barlows looks on the Nosferatu-film from 1922. The film is a spoof of Dracula, the changed the character names in that film because they couldn't get the rights for the book. Count Orlok, the Dracula character of Nosferatu looks exactly like this, minus the blue face.

  • @MsSarjen

Yes, I know. I was referring to vampire mythology throughout human history before Bram Stoker wrote the original "Dracula". Bram Stoker, as a writer, was influenced by the times he lived in and introduced romantic sub tones into his classic story. However, the concept of vampires is ancient and is found in many different old societies throughout the world. Those myths portrayed vampires as living corpses, un-Natural aberrations, or monsters.

  • THIS is the reason that vampires can't be seen in reflection. Even Kurt Barlow himself would shit his pants every time he walked past a mirror.

  • @Misanthrope1969

I almost shit my pants reading this comment it was so funny. Seriously one of the funniest things I've ever read.

  • Yep, it's close but for jump out your seat and shit yourself value this even beats American Werewolf In London's dream sequence (yellow eyed and fanged bloke jolting awake in hospital bed in the middle of the woods. Love the book and the original two-part tv series of this, haven't checked out the remake but don't think I'll bother.

  • Barlow scares me __less every time.

  • Oh man that scared me.

  • Holy shit, my poor heart. if Mr Barlow popped up outside my window or anywhere, I wouldnt know if I pee myself, shit myself or pass out.

  • Hell yeah! Mr. Barlow is a REAL vampire, unlike that pussy Edward Cullen.

  • salems lot the best and scariest vampire movie ever........ then the lost boys followed by fright night 1..........

  • I saw this movie for the first time in 1980-81, I was really scared. This version of Tobe Hooper is one of my favorite movies of horror

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I want you to take a good look at Mr Barlow. Now that's a real vampire, not the sparkly people a certain... uh... woman named Stephenie Meyer has invented. I prefer ugly vampires over Robert Pattinson-ish vampires. At least they look "good", paradoxically enough.

  • @DrStrangebomb1993 SOO TRU!!

  • FUCK!!! I love stuff like dis. !!!!!

  • i got a fucking shock... lol...

  • Okay, I just jumped about three feet into the air. This scene scared the S*** out of me when I was young and now I remember why...

  • Chuck Norris vs Barlow. That'd be a good one.

  • How did Mr. Barlow get into the jail? Did he have to go through a security checkpoint? Did he have to fill out a NOK or family member form to see Ned the Plumber?

  • @TonyXXD420 he probably told them he's his grandad or something lol

  • The most frightening vampire I have seem on the screem, after Lee`s of course.

  • Edward would so kick his n00b ass

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLZERZ!!!

  • @NitnatsnokBugolos

Kurt Barlow is better than Bedward Cullen for several reasons:

    1. He doesn't sparkle.

    2. He doesn't care whether people smell good, he kills 'em all the same.

    3. If Kurt Barlow fought Kurt Barlow, Ed Cullen would lose.

I could go on but I won't. In conclusion:

    Kurt Barlow > Edward Cullen

  • I can't believe you thought I was serious. Who do you take me for, a faggot who's loves it up the ass more than Robert Pattison?

I hate Twilight and anything associated with it. For the majority of you that took me seriously what the fucks wrong with you?

  • Excuse me, NitnatsnokBugolos, but I did not detect any sarcasm in your comment. Neither did others, since your comment was indeed downrated.

And nothing's wrong with me. Thanks for asking.

  • Finally someone who's civilized and provides the argument through proper language. Well the last line of my original comment suggested that I was impersonating someone who uses that kind of language. My name is Kosta just so you don't have to write my YouTube user name again. I hate and I mean absolutely hate Twilight and anything associated with it. If I misled you to believe otherwise I apologise

  • 0:47 I had the same look on my face when I watched this. Lol.

  • jajajajaja ¡

    me too jajaja

  • Even the theme tune's a bit scary and ominous. Love Salem's Lot.

  • I sent an email to Tobe Hooper many years ago to thank him for scaring us all with this film. Didn't expect a reply but his assistant got back to me and said they would pass the message on. :))

  • Edward Cullen couldnt scare shit. whats he gonna do, sparkle?

  • @iwishiwasthestig THROW SOME GLITTERDUST AT YOU! LMAO!!!

  • @iwishiwasthestig He would dazzle you into wanting to be bitten... Stephenie Meyer's "wonderful" ideas again...

  • I first saw this when I was 11. Im 40 now and it still freaks me out.

  • Terrifying .... though ironic that the book portrays Barlow as more of a human looking vampire that talks .... and the folks behind the movie wanted the movie Barlow to be more like the German Nosferatu, and with no speaking lines. I think in this respect they made the movie way more horrifying.

  • lmao! with that reaction he definetly shit himself!

  • This is a real vampire.

    Edward Cullen is a faggot.

  • @MountAnalogue Amen to that!

  • Jeez! *Heart attack in the process*...

    Nearly sheeet myself!

  • not a lot of scary movies scare me, but i almost s%^t my pants right there! Maybe i should be Barlow for halloween next year!

  • love how the guy tries to scream but nothing comes out,one of the best vamp films.

  • Scariest looking vampire ever! This is more like it! Vampires aren't trendy college students....

  • Team Barlow!!! lol

  • Great upload dazzula. This is what a real vampire should look like. Terrifying, alien, hideous and not really human at all, but an evil demon.

I too hate all these vampiry things on television these days- moody, brooding young things with "issues" .What a load of shite.

  • @GooseGreen82 so tru

  • @GooseGreen82 great comments.

    Vampire tweens, how funny, LOL.

  • My mom always says this is so scary. LOL

She keeps making me watch the videos about this thing. and she calls it "blue face"

  • my heart is beating at 200 mph right now!!

  • ok i'll admit, that's creepy. i just finished reading the book and wow it's good.

  • @kosmot199 wow i read the book few years ago one of stephen kings best, the whole book had an atmosphere which sets it apart from the movie, but i still love the movie for being in that classic 70's horror, bit cheesy but still creepy and amazing set. straker was my favourite though, he was always james mason in the book!

  • "WHAAA," LOL

  • Now that's a vampire!

I'm so sick of the gay, blouse wearing, moody, "misunderstood", sulking vampires of the last 20 years.

  • AGREED~!!

  • Constipation? just watch this vid and you're cured! :)

  • DONT JUS' SIT THERE!

  • This scene is the no.1 "scary moment" of ANY horror film EVER, even topping the 2"jump up" scenes in Jaws 1, etc. Other films may be scarier as a whole, but this one scene is unbeatable. Nobody sees it for the first time without being taken aback!

  • Well and totally agree with that one, still makes me jump when he suddenly appears (with music and shriek)...and Im 36 and trained ninja!!

  • Well there you go, ha ha! To me that's what a vampire should look like. Not an erotic temptress with pointed teeth, in fact not a female at all. Male and gruesome! That last "Dracula" remake (Winona Ryder etc.) had him as a long haired heartbroken lover - ridiculous! Dracula = Horror! So say I!

  • when a guy makes a face like that...you know he's fucked

  • yeah, he's dead. lmao

  • I dam near shit myelf the first time I saw that. And good old Ned Tebbits was no match for Mr. Barlow. Heh

  • He definately needs beaty treatment.

  • look at the guys face at 47 ahahahahaha

  • I think i just took a huge shit in my shorts time for me to clean myself up and start using depends....

  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN, TRICK OR TREATERS lol

  • The 2004 remake was better... this vampire is so hideous he almost has me laughing.
