Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm only LIGHTLY into the program side of comps, more of a Hardware guy) but doesn't windows do a full RAM check when booting up? From what I've heard, the more RAM a Windows machine has, the longer it takes to boot.

Assuming that's true, wouldn't a more fair speed test be something like running the OS's on two of the same machines with same specs, run the same program (say, any decent, cross platform video editor) & see which one finishes first? Just saying.

I think windows is much more superior, it's not Microsoft's fault that their operating system gets viruses. True, Linux are way faster about startup, shutdown. one thing i like in liunx is when u log in a user everything is reay to use. Winows in the other hand still loading programs etc after logging in... but what about support? Winxp are supported since 2002 till now, ubuntu LTS is programmed to be supported only for 3 years an that's bit sad. About upgrades Windows and linux upgrading sucks most of the time they giving u problems, the only nice made distro upgrade manager i've seen was ubuntu's.

I love Ubuntu but it's useless for me because I play Rift, Wow, plan on playing Gw2, I do music with FL Studio, Kontakt Sampling, lotsa Video Editing using Vegas Pro, & a ton other stuff that Ubuntu can't seem to support. For somethings Ubuntu has to use Windows inside a Virtual App like Netflix and I find it not so efficient. So many things always require that to work. @BilisNegra try it first.. I think by now it doesn't matter, they both support a whole sh*t load of stuff.. It might be your printer is supported better in windows whereas your scanner might be better supported in linux.

I've installed ubuntu on a lot of machines and with a lot of extra hardware, no really extra problems occured. even better my trust joystick and my trustmaster joystick were supported in linux wheres the trust joystick needed a patch in windows..
