  • What the heck happened at about 1:21? looked like the device or the rope got away from him?

  • @wcleary91

Good Question. Would like to get this answered.

  • "taking in rope" (0:57)...really, you can stop holding the bottom rope??? what happens if your climber falls at that time?

  • @micmardini "The Mammut Smart is not an autolocking device and therefore, the braking hand shall always remain on the braking rope (bottom rope). In the section of the video you mentioned the braking rope glides through the "tunneling" braking hand. In case of a fall in this very particular moment, the braking hand can easily grab the braking rope and together with the great braking support the Smart offers, a fall will always be catched smooth and safely." - MAMMUT

  • @michimammut

Are you talking about the same section?

  • @michimammut He was actually talking about 0:57 when he is pulling in slack and takes his brake hand completly off the rope.... That is a no-no. His hand is not "tunneling" the rope, he does not have control if the climber falls and suddenly jerks the rope away. Bad form is all we are saying.

  • @snocket We forwarded your question to our product manager of the Smart belay device. Indeed it is very important to tunnel the rope when pulling in. But the brake hand is also on 0:57 every time tunneling the brake rope. You don't think so?
