Why do I enjoy the mac commercials? Its simple I have both a PC and a MAC (pc for gaming mac for everything else) and when you look at those commercial as someone who has both there a lot of times you can't help to think "haha that's so true" face it vista was a crappy OS (it wasnt finished but they wanted to release it before leopard) and PC's do collect a lot of virusses (altough thats not really the fault of MS) and PC's do come with a lot of useless trial software. Its just the way it is.

I cannot understand the Linux comment below...Linux is free, MS really isn't worried about a free OS,,,they are however concerned about any OS that may take market share from them. Now, if Redhat was better able to promote their OS, they may get more people making the Linux migration. Normal "Joe's" don't want to buy a computer and have to go through any setup woes. Mac's and PC's have made it relatively painless to startup the computer for the first time, whereas with Linux...not so much

I don't think Microsoft is doing these commercials for themselves as much as they are doing it for their clients who build the PC computers. Microsoft is trying to make a point that people have more options with a PC in price and performance than if they went to Apple. And since windows can run on Macs, MS probably feels they owe it to the PC vendors to promote PCs since there is nobody in the media defending PCs. Also trying to recover from Vista reputation.

Can you tell me what OpenGL is? Probably not. It's an Open Graphics Library (open source). If they contributed to the development and improvement of GL then more developers would use OpenGL which means more games on Apple computers. They don't so therefore they market to the idiots who "think" they can't get a virus. Then they also try to market to Linux users who know what they're doing. Darwin kernel is horrible, this is an OS that needs to just give up.

I'm using 10.5 right now on a Quad G5 at work and its a freaking disaster. I've never worked with such a flakey OS since windowsME. 10.4 is light years ahead of 10.5 for being polished and stable. Just my opinion but I'll be posting vids of the nonsense I've found in 10.5.

Also I've got a Mac on my desk because the Mac tech left. I'm supporting the Mac users so I want test box. My main box is a Vista64 system.
Also the 10.5 'bugs' are stuff that SHOULD be working but in certain situations, it just doesnt where 10.4 is free of those bugs.
I will agree that 10.4 is very stable. I also feel its a lot more 'together' than 10.5. Leopard feels and works as thought it was rushed to meet some release deadline.
Also, please know that I am NO advocate for Microsoft, I just understand that any business would be foolish to not try to grab more market share from any competitor.
I think the Microsoft ads are interesting because they show these people going into stores to price PC's vs. Apple, but they don't give all the details as to why the Apple may be a bit more. Some people are cost conscience and some are more performance and reliability (I have found that Apple folks are usually the latter).
The reason Microsoft creates these commercials is that Apple is a competitor, and a damn good one at that! And Microsoft took a HUGE hit when Vista (which is a terrible OS) was released up until present (and still terrible). Microsoft may on a majority of the market, but they would be absolutely foolish to not run ads to promote their products. Even if Apple is "small potatoes" compared to market share of MS, you need to understand that they are trying to expand that in a rough economy.

Apple innovates in every release of OS X. Then Microsoft copies them and makes a new OS that isn't compatible with programs from their last OS. Microsoft isn't innovating, but Apple is.

its not sad, the reason people look atthe choices as being narrow is due to application compatability. and lets be honest, when was the last time you walked into pc world and a tech guy said ' hey, why dnt you have a look at our Solaris range...' it just doesnt happen, mircosoft own the larger share in comuter market, and almost every program is compatible with windows, bar a few mac exclusives

And I think, that Microsoft didn't get the idea of "Get a Mac" ads from Apple. There are people in those commercials, but they "are shown" as a computers, and Microsoft "I am a PC" ads... Hmm... They think, that everybody who has a PC wants to be a part of PC-users community... That, every person who buy a PC IS a PC. This is bullshit. If you want my opinion, the apple ads got under Microsoft's skin because they are smear ads. Some of them are downright false about PC vs Mac but all of them badmouth PC users and stereotype them as nerds.
Microsoft's I'm a PC ad campaign is great because it doesn't stoop down to Apple's level of smearing while also saying that everyone uses them.
I've never liked Apple as a company. You might think Microsoft is half-assed but they really aren't. They're just much less controlling than Apple

I agree with Emeek, I use to use PC for 10 years and got sick and tired of it, why the freaking OS is crap, when you did photoshop stuff the damn OS use to take up lots of resources, plus all the designers, musician, photographers, and Visual media uses mac, Windows peeps, stop getting over excited, macs are better in using resources, and all the programs made for macs are well behaved in Macs better than PC, LOOK AT ABLETON LIVE in a pc and then in a mac it runs much better in a mac than a PC

With more industry growth than the PC and over 34% world revenue. The Mac is from one company, that is why their market is smaller. The PC market has a bunch of companies. So Apple is doing great considering they make up all of the Mac market.

They've definitely had a huge effect,
they had both mac and pc users talking about them.
It was very effective mainly because they wanted the Mac users to bash the ads.
They made them bad for that reason, they got tons of extra publicity from the Mac users pointing out all the flaws in the commercials.
Thats the reason why I didn't make any videos about them. I didn't want them to win... by having any extra publicity.

I cannot understand the Linux comment below...Linux is free, MS really isn't worried about a free OS,,,they are however concerned about any OS that may take market share from them. Now, if Redhat was better able to promote their OS, they may get more people making the Linux migration. Normal "Joe's" don't want to buy a computer and have to go through any setup woes. Mac's and PC's have made it relatively painless to startup the computer for the first time, whereas with Linux...not so much

I don't think Microsoft is doing these commercials for themselves as much as they are doing it for their clients who build the PC computers. Microsoft is trying to make a point that people have more options with a PC in price and performance than if they went to Apple. And since windows can run on Macs, MS probably feels they owe it to the PC vendors to promote PCs since there is nobody in the media defending PCs. Also trying to recover from Vista reputation.

Significantly, Apple isn't using dynamic lighting to inflate its contrast ratio; that's unfortunate for gamers and movie viewers, but it's not as much of an issue for editors who may want a more consistent image.

Can you tell me what OpenGL is? Probably not. It's an Open Graphics Library (open source). If they contributed to the development and improvement of GL then more developers would use OpenGL which means more games on Apple computers. They don't so therefore they market to the idiots who "think" they can't get a virus. Then they also try to market to Linux users who know what they're doing. Darwin kernel is horrible, this is an OS that needs to just give up.

Microsoft are hiding behind the good name of PC manufacturers. Buy a good PC and their OS is good. Their OS is only good enuff to run on the "named" brand PCs. MS are going after the "choice" market. They are saying "look, our OS runs on anything" which to be fair is true. A fast PC will make an OS fast, it doesnt make it work any better.

I'm using 10.5 right now on a Quad G5 at work and its a freaking disaster. I've never worked with such a flakey OS since windowsME. 10.4 is light years ahead of 10.5 for being polished and stable. Just my opinion but I'll be posting vids of the nonsense I've found in 10.5.

I said 10.5 is flaky not 10.4. 10.5 is Leopard and it is current and not outdated. Also I thought Macs last longer. So what...a quad G5 is now useless even if it tries to run the latest OS?
Also I've got a Mac on my desk because the Mac tech left. I'm supporting the Mac users so I want test box. My main box is a Vista64 system.
Also the 10.5 'bugs' are stuff that SHOULD be working but in certain situations, it just doesnt where 10.4 is free of those bugs.

Also, please know that I am NO advocate for Microsoft, I just understand that any business would be foolish to not try to grab more market share from any competitor.
I think the Microsoft ads are interesting because they show these people going into stores to price PC's vs. Apple, but they don't give all the details as to why the Apple may be a bit more. Some people are cost conscience and some are more performance and reliability (I have found that Apple folks are usually the latter).

The reason Microsoft creates these commercials is that Apple is a competitor, and a damn good one at that! And Microsoft took a HUGE hit when Vista (which is a terrible OS) was released up until present (and still terrible). Microsoft may on a majority of the market, but they would be absolutely foolish to not run ads to promote their products. Even if Apple is "small potatoes" compared to market share of MS, you need to understand that they are trying to expand that in a rough economy.
