  • I don't see under rotations of her first combination. The triple lutz-double toe was very big. In her U.S. Nationals, her opening combo was the same, and she scored 70 points on that. The judges seem to always score yuna and other skaters higher, like when yuna did the Die Fiedermaus in her 2007 gpf, DOING A triple fip-SINGLE toe instead of triple, and yet, she still received higher than Mirai, at over 58 points.

  • FACT: mirai deserves WAY more credit than what the judges give her

  • 24 PC? da hell...

  • It's because she under-rotates - i don't like the scoring either, but that's what we got

  • Mirai's jumps and spins were so solid! There's no reason her technical elements OR presentation score should have been that low!

  • 24 for pcs? It's so wrong it's almost funny

  • She is far better thesedays. I think she'll be phenomenal next season.

  • @nysound I think this year will tell the tale if Mirai is truly ready to become a contender. She can't keep using the "i'm too young" bit. She's 17 now and is expected to be a challenger in any competition she's in. She needs to keep working on her jumps and being more mature on the ice. And become a tougher competitor.

  • @dsfddsgh After Mao burst onto the scene and dominated at 15 and yu-na at 16 I don't think she's thinking that she's too young, it seems more like she feels it's just not her time because there are a lot of great skaters still skating. I just hope she isn't settling into the idea that her time will only come once they retire because she has what it takes to give them a run for their money.

  • @HelTra91 I agree. She needs to say to herself that she's going to take what's her and that is the World Championship and every other event that she is in this year. No more "i'm the future" talk from her. The future is now.

  • I think in 2010 her speed and footwork has improved a lot. She has a bright future ahead of her.

  • WHAT!!!!?!!?! this deserved much more than a 56.64 :(:( the judges need a dose of caffeine and WAKE UP from their prejudice :( or whatever they need to wake up from. eeeek

  • @alicemacf I think maybe you need to wake up from your prejudice and obvious bias. LMAO!!!

  • The music complements her skating perfectly.

Her skating makes me SO HAPPY

  • who is the first song by? Im in love with it!!

  • @No1ZmeskalFan its fragile dreams

  • fragile dreams by joe hisaishi

  • Awesome SP. Music isn't overused and the editing is seamless. Also,I love her spins, especially the layback into Biellman. It's hypnotic and I find myself rewatching it several times.

  • she definitely deserved a 3rd in olympics...but prob not 1st/2nd. she turns her lutzes into flutzes from time to time, and shes still doing a 3Lz2T, whilst yuna has been doing 3Lz3T consistently since 16.....so you still see the difference. but by all means, she's great and has huge potential to medal in the next olympics.

  • I signed up for figure skating classes, so last night I went to practice before the first class. I didn't expect to do so well, because I learned how to skate backwards fluently, do tiny jumps, and skate really fast!!!

  • She's adorable (:

  • oh man i LOVE this girl!

  • Excellent! Very energizing. Thank you for posting.

  • Man, if she continues as she is, in just a few years she'll be amaaaaazing. I loved her spins. THey were so fast paced and dizzying. I am in no way an expert, but I can see places where she's not as mature as the top skaters.

  • i just love to watch the way she skates: the speed, the energy, the spins, shes one of the best out there besides mao and caroline!! so entertaining to watch them skate!! good luck in the olympics mirai!

  • Was she 3rd or 4th after the short? Judging by Alissa and Joannie's programs, I think 3rd would have been very fair for her.

  • @youariston - mirai didn't have a 3-3.. I think she should put one in.. it would help her technically.. :)

  • Mirai wuz ROBBED! She should have been in 2nd if not 1st. The judges are just making it clear that she has to wait her turn. I think she's the best hope the US has in the coming years; she's pretty consistent, she has speed comparable to Yu-Na and Carolina Kostner, and the rest of her elements are all top level. She just needs to work on her maturity and technique but she's with Frank Carroll, so all of those things are being fixed as we speak. In another year or so she'll be the one to beat.

  • Frank Carroll is the man lol

  • @herm712 I think after the short it should have been Czisny, Nagasu, then Rochette.

  • her score at CoC was 6 points higher and was of the exact same quality. the judging at this comp was messed up

  • loved the way she tipped her head back during the i-spin at the end. god do i wish we were sending three skaters to the olympics.

  • I think Mirai is better than Yuna in many ways. Yuna has great speed coming out of her first 3/3 combo which is very impressive and sets a tone.

Other than that, I believe Mirai has lots more flexibility, better spirals, more secure edges, and better spins.

Yuna has the looks and sex appeal of a super model and I believe that is why Yuna is favored.

  • Mirai has better flexibility which gives her better spins and spirals but Yu-Na beats her where it counts. Yu-Na has stronger technique in her jumps and way more maturity and musicality. Truth is, Mirai is amazing! She has everything she needs to be #1 and, as long as she stays with Frank Carroll, I think she will be the one to beat in the coming years. Great speed and appeal; she just needs better tech on her jumps and more maturity and feeling in her skating. She was underscored here though...

  • lol at youariston, like you are an expert. lol

  • Are you jealous that I said Yuna has the sex appeal of a super model? lol

  • judges sucked at this competition, they definately jacked up the scores for the crowd favs

lol im the taller flower retriever at 2:17

and at 2:36 she was doing that little section in front of my ex coach and he actually smiled at her which NEVER happens

  • her sp is my favorite of everyones this season

  • Mine too! She just needs to polish it a bit, but it's very fun

  • the judging at this competition SUCKED!!! how did this performance not break 60 points?

  • HATED MUCH? Mirai got shafted. Point blank. Blast those judges at SC!

  • Mirai is certainly very talented and has gotten better in many ways, but I'm afraid that she's gotten worse in many other ways as well. She's looking very erratic in her skating, instead of skating calmly and relying on good technique to jump. She's very promising but she needs to go back to her style from a couple of years ago!

  • hmm. First of all, her posture is incredible! Her layback is very good, too- almost Czisny quality! Great program. I do think the score was too low. The technical score was probably where it was because of an edge call. The presentation score seemed a few points low... I wonder why ...

  • she changed the way she went from haircutter to biellman. I like that

  • she definitely deserved more than 50-smth.. such bias

  • shes so alive!!! the speed, her posture, the flexibility and beautiful spins, shes amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • her layback is amaaazing.

  • I keep watching this repeatedly especially her spiral sequence and footwork sequence. I really feel this should have scored in the 60's! I just wish for the nationals and HOPEFULLY for the olympics, that she gives this program all the emotions etc (she smiled a lot during CoC) because this program and music has the makings of something to be remembered for a long time.:) I personally was moved by the music...so hopefully she maximizes it.:)

  • I love her skating!

  • me too, i love to see her in ice!

  • I cant believe that this great performance just deserves fifty something/.\ This SP should deserve a higher score!

  • half of the marks is for presentation

  • i strongly believe she should have won the short program. i dont quite see what is so special about rochette that she is not only ahead, but ahead by far. but in response to Fakeemo24.....rachel is the united states best chance at a medal at the olympic based on her history and consistency!

  • i am VERY surprised - i totally did not expect this! this performance is GREAT!

  • Wake up judges!!

  • Did anybody really think the new scoring system would stop the cheating and corruption?

It is pretty clear to see that international figure skating judges are MORE corrupt than ever.

  • Just another example how the judging of figure skating hasn't changed. It will always be unfair and continue to make the sport of figure skating lose credibility. There is no way that Rochette deserved to be 14 points higher than Nagasu. Just insane. I love how she got -2 GOE for a perfect triple flip. She also received just a level 3 for the last spin that was so clearly a level 4 it isn't even funny. Rolling my eyes right now.

  • The judges should die

  • to bsg1004;

Ha~~~Judges doesn't need to die, but we need justice, Mirai's PC score to low! (Sighs)

  • Mirai, Cheer up, Good luck at US National,

wish you joint the team of Olympc 2010.

  • She deserved more, she is fast, flexible, strong.

  • mirai is really elegant skater. I looove her beautiful skating.

  • I love this program, no matter what she scored - she looks so at ease in it!

  • those judges are idiots! she should at the very least be over 60!!! And her PCS crazy low! What where they thinking?!

  • Nice program...i think she should have been ahead of Alissa Csizny for the SP. her 56 is too low.

  • Agreed.

  • Wow they fixed the exit landings and edges a lot! Fabulous!

  • I love his program and the music. Mirai deserved more than they scored her. I know her jumps get downgraded alot, but I still love the way she jumps, so softly and lightly. Yeah, Frank looks pissed. He should be!

  • fabulous skating! the judges are crazy here. it should be at least 65 PLUS in my opinion.

  • great performance, the jumps look very clean here in the replay, i dont' know how she gets below 60....???

  • Is this a joke? Half a turn short? I don't see any rotation being short, none. The lutz was like butter. Her upper body seemed a little behind on the flip but on that replay her blade looks around and the blade is what counts. To say she is half a turn short is a lie, plain and simple.

  • This is ridiculous. She did 3+2 and 3 and 2Axsel after "InaBauer" How come Joannie got 70 with 3+2,3 and 2Axsel but Mirai only got 53? She did very clean.I know Joannie has a little bit of a better quality but she shouldn't have score that high with that 3+2. If she can get high score close to Yuna with that "3+2" why not Mao get 70s when she does clean?Or what about others who do the "3+2" right?Mirai should deserve higher score. She did a very good performance.

  • all there was missing to this performance was a little bit more expression. I think she could have shown a little more fire. But I agree man, I keep rooting for this girl and I don't think her scores should be that low for the quality of performance. And how can she be NOT known? she was a US champion for crying out loud

  • yeah, I'm sure we all agree that mirai totally deserved a better score... oh btw I like the timing of the footwork here (a lot) better than CoC.

    Good luck tonight Mirai!!!

  • So unfair to Mirai...I'm sad for her. It was a very good performance and deserved better scoring. At the end, I can see her being unsure how to react to the scores...she looks so sweet and sad looking at them.

  • Why Mirai's PC score always that low?

    Good luck LP.

  • Comment removed

  • I disagree. Suzuki and Zhang's PC are only 23, what's mean "judges don't know her"? Not fair for Mirai.
