can you help me? i just got an xbox and i want to connect it to my hd monitor. When i had a ps3, the standard def was plugged into a red/white converter thingy which went into the back of my pc in an audio port. the hdmi plugged into the back of my monitor like yours does. I cant do that with my xbox tho be because the standard def cable has a part sticking out meant to block the hdmi port. BTW my monitor doesnt have speakers, so when i had the set up for my ps3, the audo played out my pc spkr

plug in the hdmi cable make sure theres no game in the drive hold right trigger and yellow y button in on controler then press the middle buton to power up the 360 keep the right trigger and yellow buton held untill the console resets then your console should work

hdmi isnt that much of a difference but if your willing to spend about 75 buck then you need. VGA cable for your 360, then you need a VGA to DVI adapter, then you need a DVI to HDMI adapter. This will cost around $72 so I would suggest that unless you have no other choice than to hook it up this way I would just hook it up with the component cable that comes with the 360 and use an optical cable for the sound. Or if your TV has a VGA input just get the VGA cable and hook it up that way.

well it depends what type of tv you have, if you have a 720p hdtv than you use 720p, if your tv is 1080p than you use 1080p ( i think 1080i as well), my tv is 1080p and with my hdmi cable it looks incredible way better than the 720p type

of course 1080p is better. if you are stupid enough to use it on a 720p monitor/tv you will get stretching and artifacts. the p is just the second number in resolution (rows or horizontal scan lines of pixels), 720p is 1280x720 and 1080p is 1920x1080. the higher the number the more space there is to fit in graphical detail.

Every monitor you get in HD today has a VGA, DVI and HDMI port so you really don't need an adapter. But if you do use an adapter you don't get full 1080P resolution, you loose some in the adapter.

Ok if you don't realize that he's using a hdmi to dvi adapter then you don't need to be using an xbox 360. Hdmi gives you 1080p video and carries your sound. so no need 5 seperate cables. (component/LR stereo)

Also I'm confused about needing a set top box. you mean a switcher? stb are something like the xbox...If you tv has dvi you can use the hdmi port if not you'll need the vga adapter or component.

Unfortunately DVI does not support audio so he will need to use the A/V cable that came with the Xbox to be able to hear it. If he uses the Male HDMI to DVI adapter with a DVI cable, the plug is too big to connect both the adapter and the A/V cable at the same time. If you want to connect to a DVI monitor or TV you should get an HDMI cable with a Female HDMI to DVI adapter.
