In one story, Mjolnir gets stolen by Thyrm, the king of the giants. Thyrm demanded Freyja as ransom, so Loki came up with a plan. Thor (disguised as Freyja) and Loki went to Jotunheim, and Thyrm ordered a feast. Loki then spent the rest of the evening coming up with excuses for "Freyja's" strange behaviour. Finally, when Thyrm lifted "Freyja's" veil and saw a beard, Thor broke cover, took the hammer and killed Thyrm and every giant in the room.
It doesn't make sense that the narrator doesn't pronounce the h in whatever words that starts with an h. In Norwegian, Swedish and Danish languages you have a so called aspirated h (with exceptions of course - interrogatives e.g.).
What a waste of costumes and props. WHEN THE FUCK is somebody going to make an ACTUAL viking movie or Norse Mythology movie? Greek Myths are over-used in hollywood, Why isn't there an epic Ragnarok Movie???
@TrollMaster5 Yah, been thinking exacly the same. Greek stories recycled over and over again when there are thousands of other myths outside of greece.
"Erik the Viking" is still the best most accurate vikingmovie so far, and thats a comedy, lol
@TrollMaster5 Its just like Geroge Lucas rehashing the same starwars films over and over again without exploring the rest of the starwars universe! never mind that there's an additional 25,000 years of content...we just like these 20 years right here in the rise of the empire.
@TrollMaster5 yeah over used and all false by the way. They mutilated our Greek culture. Better this way, they spared your great culture and didnt humiliated it with a crappy movie...
@TrollMaster5 In my opinion Thor was enough, but you're right about the Greek mithology problem. It's quite strange seeing THREE versions of Zeus and co. in less than 5 years (Percy Jackson, God of War, Clash of the Titans).
@Fullmetalminos Thor was not enough. The mythology was all made up. For example Sif is supposed to be thor's wife and have super long golden blonde hair that gives her powers. But in the thor movie she isn't thors wife, has black hair, and is some kind of rouge warrior.
@TrollMaster5 Her hair were cut by Loki. Because of that action, he went to Svartalfheim, where he asked two dwarves if they had been able to create a new "wig" for Sif. They used the dark of the night as the main colour and here it is, she became black-haired.
the closest I've ever come to anything relating to the Norse/Anglo Saxon world/genre (though it's not particularly accurate either) is 13th Warrior. Beowulf is such a 'cinematic' poem, it just cries out to be made into a beautiful film, and what happens to it? it gets CGI-ed and ruined! Oh well, as long as people don't believe it, it's all quite good fun.
Asar lever vidare i min tro, i Valhalla ska dem festa dagarna i ända tills det nordiska folket får tillbaka sin tro! Jag älskar mina grannland också! Länge leve norden!
@57Aje I have to agree with you there.. It's sad people put down so much passion in making movies, and yet they fail. I'm not watching more than 5min of this movie, as they have failed several times already... Women on a warriors ship? brings only misfortune. Creatures in the bow? Yes, to frighten the enemies, but mainly to frighten the lands spirits.Deja vu, long forgotten memories from a past life? They didnt believe in such things.. either you went to Valhall as a warrior, or Hel as a civil
@57Aje Brother i know excactly what you mean. Also for us every time "someone tries to resemble" the Olympians (Greek gods and heroes) the result is so screwd up also. But that's movies not a documentary research.Too bad.I hear ya.
@57Aje Hrafninn flýgur (When the raven flies) is an old but very good islandic movie, then there is Hvíti víkingurinn (The white viking) also a good islandic movie!
someone needs to make an awesome ragnarok movie thats ANIMATED!!! no people in shiny CGI armor with a regular face. an animated version would allow you to make the characters however you want them to be. no trying to teach sword fighting to actors. no cartoonish cgi monsters. no plastic armor (300). think of "Valhalla Rising" thats animated like "Akira", but is about ragnarok instead. hand me a check if you make it
i love thor.... the movie is ehhhhhhhhh but its not polished like a major film and no matter how many people say the acting is good..... its just plain mediocre. not too impressed....

@AtrumMixer I'm talking about war, raiding and plundering, not colonizing an island!! Can't anyone take their heads out of their politically correct asses for a second and realize historical facts? You know facts? What we had before all this pc bullshit!
@AtrumMixer Don't call me geraldo you dolt!! Female raiders huh? Based on what facts?
The Old Norse word vikingar is exclusively applied to men, those who sailed from Scandinavia in groups to engage in the activities of raiding and trading in Britain, Europe and the East. Both farming and trading were family businesses, and women were often left in charge when their husbands were away at war, raiding or dead. Vikings picked up female companions en route.
Haha geraldo got you really upset huh. I wont call you that then x)
Look. Theyve found female graves with swords in them and everything. Shieldmaidens werent unheard of back then. Vikings invaded, they brought their families to an occupied land full of battles where the ability to fight was crucial.
Infact, all germanic tribes have had female fighters. Even the romans ran into them from time to time. And since christianity hadnt made its mark on women yet, they were free to pick up the sword.
@AtrumMixer Automixer, sheildmaidens are from norse folklore and mythology. They did not actually exist! Hervarar Saga, Gesta Danorum and the Valkeries were all just myths. So you know more than Judith Jesch a PHD? I cited my source for the facts and I even quoted the Anglo Saxon Chronicles, so why don't you do the same?
Sigh. Whats with the attitude. Ive spent half my lifetime reading about scandinavian history and I fucking live in Visby next to a Viking Museum.
A shieldmaiden (sköldmö) is a word describing a woman, often childless and unattached who goes into battle, fictional or real, and the world has seen plenty of them.
Because they werent clearly marked doesnt mean they didnt exist.
Since knowledge of the viking age is extremely inadequate even "expert" Judith Jesch cant know for sure.
@AtrumMixer Automixer, I've read a lot of history books and nowhere was it ever mentioned in the countless passages, that the Romans faced female warriors!! So you are a liar too!
The romans ran into something you would call campfollowers. And when the women suddenly took up arms against them they were shocked. Now, what differs a campfollower from a warrior? You have no idea what background those women had, how many of them were experienced with the sword, or how many were beginners. So no. I am no liar.
You however, shouldnt be so damn narrow minded.
If I told you some vikings were muslim, would you belive it?
Or would you only belive it if it was written in a book.
@AtrumMixer An example of this is; The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle notes that a Viking army operating in England in the years 892-5 was accompanied by women and children, who had to be put in a place of safety while the army fought. Most women's lives were bounded by hearth and home. These facts are based off of Dr Judith Jesch who is a Reader in Viking Studies at the University of Nottingham and the author of Women in the Viking age (1991) & Ships and Men in the Late Viking Age (2001).
Children connect to their mothers best, and they couldnt be left alone unprotected. Hence, they leave their children with their wives.
That doesnt mean women werent able to fight on the battlefield. If the enemy somehow broke through and got to their children, they would do anything in their might to protect them. And that included using the sword.
@AtrumMixer Automixer, to defend the children yes, but if you think the real men of that time would allow women and children near a battle field, than you are very mistaken!
@vfran20 Automixer, have you worked with women? I have. In supermarkets where the female employees constantly asked me to lift things for them, even buckets of water. And the female customers were always asking for help to reach items up on the shelves. The only men who asked me for help were those in wheel chairs! And when I worked construction, there wasn't a woman in sight!! You expect me to believe that women donned armor and lifted a sword?? What a laugh!!
I work with women every day actually. Ive never been asked to carry anything except by my mother. If anything Ive been asked to HELP them carry heavier things. When I joined the swedish army I served with plenty of women. Many of them skillful soldiers today.
Even the Royal Guard are to a large proportion female.
Things may be different in your country. Girls over there learn how to behave from TV and popstars. And they know how to get work done for free by playing helpless lady.
Besides, in the time when they found most of the viking graves, they determined the sex of the person by simply looking at their belongings instead of taking tests.
If the grave contained a swords, spears etc, they were marked as male.
So, they were stereotypically marked by our gender roles TODAY, not before.
Atleast one of those graves containing weapons, could have been a womans grave, if they had bothered to look.
Also, where do you think the idea of the Valkyrie came from?
This movie came on Sci Fi the other day. i thought it was going to be a good one,but when i saw that Zachry Ty Bryan was playing Thor, i thought that was the stupidest idea. The movie wasn't bad,but it wasn't great either
Ludicrous! How can any sane person possibly depict a viking ship as having flames coming out of the dragons head. Besides: as usual the "actors" pronunce the names of most gods etc. soooo terribly wrong - it's torture!
@yardhill tryin not to make them look as retarded maybe they were trying to stop themselves from being violently tossed around so much by rowing backward to slow themselves down
@yardhill maybe, they are rowing in the opposite direction, cuz the waves are thrusting them forward, and they try to stabilize the boat and keep it steady?
@yardhill have you ever rowed in your life? if you haven't then grow up and stop bullshiting around! doesn't matter which way they were facing - matters how they row! dumbass
@yardhill Uhm, they're facing the front so they are rowing in the right direction. So you would rather say that they are sitting in the wrong direction.
this movie was based on vikings and greek mythology,it is not going to have every single part of the movie based on fact!

AtrumMixer 1 year ago
@AtrumMixer Automixer, sheildmaidens are from norse folklore and mythology. They did not actually exist! Hervarar Saga, Gesta Danorum and the Valkeries were all just myths. So you know more than Judith Jesch a PHD? I cited my source for the facts and I even quoted the Anglo Saxon Chronicles, so why don't you do the same?
vfran20 1 year ago
AtrumMixer 1 year ago
@AtrumMixer Automixer, I've read a lot of history books and nowhere was it ever mentioned in the countless passages, that the Romans faced female warriors!! So you are a liar too!
vfran20 1 year ago

Theres always been tomboys.
AtrumMixer 1 year ago
@AtrumMixer Automixer, to defend the children yes, but if you think the real men of that time would allow women and children near a battle field, than you are very mistaken!
vfran20 1 year ago
@vfran20 Automixer, have you worked with women? I have. In supermarkets where the female employees constantly asked me to lift things for them, even buckets of water. And the female customers were always asking for help to reach items up on the shelves. The only men who asked me for help were those in wheel chairs! And when I worked construction, there wasn't a woman in sight!! You expect me to believe that women donned armor and lifted a sword?? What a laugh!!
vfran20 1 year ago

AtrumMixer 1 year ago
2 swords on a female back isnt wrong or bad, aslong as theyre curved scimitars.
But when there are straight blades as in this "movie", its just ineffective and dangerous.

It's a bad movie. Saw only 40 minutes of it. give it 3/10 stars

Ludicrous! How can any sane person possibly depict a viking ship as having flames coming out of the dragons head. Besides: as usual the "actors" pronunce the names of most gods etc. soooo terribly wrong - it's torture!

@yardhill I was just about to say that when i looked down and saw your comment. I applaud you seeing that even though its a little obvious.

@yardhill tryin not to make them look as retarded maybe they were trying to stop themselves from being violently tossed around so much by rowing backward to slow themselves down
gamerpro321 11 months ago
@yardhill maybe, they are rowing in the opposite direction, cuz the waves are thrusting them forward, and they try to stabilize the boat and keep it steady?
GangstasChoice 10 months ago
@yardhill have you ever rowed in your life? if you haven't then grow up and stop bullshiting around! doesn't matter which way they were facing - matters how they row! dumbass
aigarsa 9 months ago
@yardhill Uhm, they're facing the front so they are rowing in the right direction. So you would rather say that they are sitting in the wrong direction.
