That's great - I live at Lakeview & Kimball and I love it when the end of the road floods, but there was nothing like that summer! Maybe it will flood again this summer!
Cool that you found this video! (Was it because it had "Kimball Road" in the title?)
Was strange how they didn't open the dam to release the water for a long time, and it stayed flooded. I heard that it was because they were avoiding flooding the golf course. Do you know why they didn't open the dam afterwards, like they did at Lewisville, etc?
They don't want to mess up everybody else downstream. I wanted to tell you that it is up at about the same height again. I drove down there today and was shocked that it had gone over the road and almost to the gate they close in such a short tine....time to pull out the kayaks for a part2~
Well, when it flooded I was checking the Corps of Engineers web site, and for Lewisville and Lake Ray Roberts, they were releasing a lot of water. But for Grapevine, it was almost nothing.
Seems that it's all politics - golf courses take priority over residences.
As for part 2, it's a bit chilly now, don't you think? :-)
aww, come on - a little cold water never hurt anybody....oh wait, perhaps it has. i'm always worried about bacteria that might be present when it floods, so i would be more worried about that myself.
and yah - i was amazed that our lake's drinking water is shipped to arlington, and we keep it clean, but we get somebody elses....politics suck!
eh, bacteria's always there. so many millions of gallons of water there, I don't think it's a problem. I think it's more when the streets flood, that water is toxic. But here, a little flood water mixing with a lake - not a big deal, IMO.
I didn't know that about Arlington. Guess someone's gotta keep them Cowboys hydrated, right? ;-)
I do need to get out there. Would love to move to Grapevine. Love it there!
that would be so wierd and awsome! i have never kayaking before, i can totally tell you use windows movie maker, (if you ever use something else you will never wanna go back...ever!) go beethoven, aww, to hear the cicadas reminds me of summer!
oh oh! really impressive. that was strange...and normal at the same time, we have to accept that from nature. thank you for feeding my curiosity, that was interesting :-)
LOL at the way your dog is standing on your kayak, like a hero ready to save everybody!! LMAO
Yeah, right? Isn't that the truth? I think he's standing there to look out for predators. Once I went down a narrow creek, where we were only a couple feet from the bank on each side. He was very scared, with his tail between his legs, afraid of what might jump out at us. :-(
Hey, Jma, thanks for the comment! Yeah, Bernie's a great swimmer, and he loves getting in the water. For some reason, though, he hates taking a bath. Go figure! :-)
That's actually a pretty good idea, but, like you say, pretty gross. :-) He's pretty funny, just like a kid: you mention the word "bath," and he puts his head down and tries to hide, or goes to someone else in the room to "save him." I'm sure your dogs are the same. :-)
About the water clearing, I don't know. I checked the web site for several weeks, and, for some reason, they weren't releasing water from the dam, though they could have. Some think it was because of the golf course right next to the dam release. No one really knows why. But for the better part of the summer the lake was flooded, and nearby homes and businesses were affected.
Yeah, Bernie's cool. :-) When we first started taking him on the Kayak, I had to force him, putting the leash on him and making him come. Now he just jumps on it and enjoys the ride.
About the flood, yeah, we had about 2 years of drought, then -- boom! Pretty amazing...
