Ive seen both Bob Dylan and Josh Ritter live, i much preferred Josh Ritter, much happier when hes singing. plus you can hear what Ritter is singing about...

Mind you Blonde on Blonde, Bringing it all back home, Highway 61 revisited, Blood on the tracks and John Wesley Harding are all top notch albums.

But so are all Ritters albums.

This interview makes me think his lyrics are far more contrived than they are organic. Dylans lyrics seem far more organic to me, but that isn't to say one is better or worse than the other. The sheer mass and volume of Dylans great work puts him in a more elete category in my opinion. However, I think that you could put "Thin Blue Flame" and "The Temptation of Adam" next to any of Dylans masterworks.

most folk/rock singers are compared to bob dylan becuase dylan opened the gates and influenced most folk musicians. comparing anybody to dylan whether its the lyrics or guitar is vague. Josh Ritter brings his own line of music to the table.
