3 people were left deaf after listening to this... I have the pleasure on working on these power house machines for a living. Cool video thanks for posting>
The Series 60 was a very powerful awesome engine. Since Detroit Diesel won't be making them no more, The 2010 MCI Buses will probably be Detroit DD15 powered
Speaking of Cummins ISX engines, I saw a International Truck out in Dunwoody, GA and I believe that was definietly an ISX, because it sound a lot more powerful than the ISM engine. Just imagine how MCI Buses would sound with the ISX engines
Some people say the CAT's take off faster, its all in the engine programming. I've encountered on Series 60 with the 'low gear torque limiting' totally disabled, black smoke poured out when you were on that gas between 0-30, and when you stepped on the gas from a dead stop the turbo spooled instantly and you were off, because it was giving 100% power, not limiting it like the sound on this one, notice all the power builds right at 2nd gear shift, thats the power being limited till then.
I still can't believe that both Engine Companies are not making engines for bus companies anymore. Detroit Engine Company..If you can read my plea & hear my cry..,Please start making engines for the Bus Manufactors. I already missed the DD 50 & 60 series. Not much of a "Cat" man, But they're a welcome site too.
Yo rts9100 you won't believe this, but I just read that on Nov 27, 2009 that MCI Buses will be powered with DD15 engines after all. If you go to Google and then type in detroit diesel for 2010 bus engines
So Bus Manufactors will get the option of choice engines "Including The Newest Detroit" ? Thank God! Because i'm not much of a "Cat" fan at all. Thanks for the info.
Yeah man! I'm so thrilled that Detroit is coming back, because I think I'd go crazy if buses in the future were only Cummins powered. Detroit Diesel Rules!
I will have to totally agree with you 100% on that one my Man and once again thanks for the "Heads Up" update. Now i can rest easy now that Detroit is Back On The "Bus" Map.
There's none other out that performs better or out last a Detoit right from "Our" own back yard. Detroit trumps "All" other diesel makes "In Spades"! Peroid!!!!!
It's funny, I reed that the D series was MCI competition to the Prevost H series. I suprize Prevost never built an anwer to the E4500. I would have been nice if they did.
when you think about it the xl-2 le mirage was the Prevost answer to the D-series the H3=45 compared to the e model i have both as motorhomes and you can really tell the difference
Actualy I reed somewhere that the D series was compared to the H series. I the 80's when Prevost lunch the H3-40 all MCI had near it was the 102 C3 basily an up dated 102 A3, so I think in the early MCI lunched the D series
to compete and out do both the H serise and Van Hool T 800. The D series has the advantiage of being 45 feet long, when most of the other coaches was only 40 feet.
Fuckin love these busses. The D series is the only bus that you see a million times on the road in one fucking minute and never get bored of seeing it.
I see a lot of video and photo of both NYMTA and NJ Transit DL3/D4500. I know a lot of these are use on the NJ-NYC route, but are these also use on presigest routes with in NYC or NJ?
D4500 is MCI longest saling bus since the MC 5. It may not be as fancy or heavy as a E or J 4500, but it get the jod done! I really thought that the G series was going to reaplace D series.
I a fan of the series 60, especaily now that it 14L.
I drive for a living for peter pan trailways & that sound once you put your foot on the gas, you feel nothin' but power on the D'Series. Fantastic job my friend. It's like i'm driving it.

The only Cummins engine that I can think of is the ISX, because I read that the Cummins ISM is going to be terminated by the end of 2009.

The D series reminds me of an air plane with its wheel base and sloping, compare it to the shape of a Van Hool that looks like a box toy.
