Looks like a Clint Eastwood or Sly Stallone cop film, especially with lines like "welcome to hell", "I'm the guy with nothing to lose", "fasten your seat belt" and "you have better decide if you're hanging on the cross...or banging in the nails." Be prepared for them to be roasted in the reviews. With that said, I'm a fan of that genre and old TV shows like Baretta and Hunter so the dialogue actually works for me. I love catch phrases and this film has FOUR! That really makes my day!

yeh, the directing is amazing. you've got a great lead actor, kevin bacon. the story pretty solid got few unsure moments near the end but thats when the directing really comes in well. but the thing that i liked more about that film was kevin bacon was playing such an average guy and then he GRADUALLY changed into this killer. you see how he struggles to become this killer, unlike DS and Taken were they are already cops and know how to kill. there seems to be no connection. just my opinion.

I guess that's why DS wasn't very convincing for me. Bacon is no tough guy. There are no tough guy actors today so it was hard to cast. Gibson at least is a psycho. In contrast take Death Wish (DS was based on the sequel novel to Death Wish and repeats scenes from Death Wish III) Bronson was a tough guy, not believable at all as an architect, so when his wife got killed and his daughter effed into a vegetable you knew the game was on even though he had to "learn" to kill (yeah, right).

"Bacon isnt a tough guy" but thats the whole point of the film (aswell as getting revenge). it shows how even an everyday guy can turn into this killer and obviously they didnt want someone who looked "tough" if looked untough it shows more of a change, more of an average man.

The main audience draw will be how long it's been since Mel's been onscreen. The curiosity factor. But Mel as a loose cannon always works. Boston accent sucks though.

From the trailer, it feels a little stilted, over-the-top and melodramatic. It's like every scene there's explosion and violence like the producers are just dying for the audience to think this is exactly like Taken. Plus Mel Gibson constant tough guy Bostonian accent is weird ,with him uttering some lone-hero line every 10 seconds ("I'm the guy with nothing to lose!").
