cont'd...I remember hearing the "Hermeneutic of Suspicion" where radical feminists and followers of Black Liberation Theology saw the Bible as being written by a bunch of dead MEN and this Hermeneutic of Suspicion meant they would not trust what the Bible says. At the time I called this the Hermeneutic of Conniption as these same folks had their finger always on the You-better-not-offend-me button...sad. Sure followers of Christ still sin, but the Bible is trustworthy and God's words of life.
...(cont'd) As we continue to die to ourselves and keep pursuing Christ's life taking us over from the inside - we worry less and less about what offends us and become ever more concerned about what offends God - and from a positive standpoint we begin to care about what Christ cares about. What broke his heart should also begin to break ours.
You can use a good Hermeneutic (interpretive lens/framework) or bad/unhealthy Hermeneutic when you attempt to interpret and bring forth what God proclaims in the Bible. There are many things that are offensive in the Bible...offensive to our own sinful, human nature - our own selfishness, pride, lust, greed, lack of mercy/compassion, holiness, honoring of the Sabbath, etc...
Excellent Pastor Jay!
I learned some new insight regarding why we witness. For the Glory Of God first.I always thought the latter of which you said...
