  • I purchased the i-Mini last week. Unfortunately, the hopper unfastens itself during grinding. Is there a solution? It is a capable grinder otherwise.

  • @mimorrison I have not heard of this or a solution; perhaps another purchaser has ...? - Kat

  • @SeattleCoffeeGear This grinder arrived at my doorstep today. However my Delonghi ec310 seems to choke to a drip even though I have adjusted to the most coarse settings.. What am I doing wrong!? please help

  • @liquidribs This should get coarse enough for your machine, I'd check the burrs to make sure they are calibrated correctly - Kat

  • very cool.. and a reasonable price

  • hi, thxs so much for your vids, great help !!! i just got a ascaso dream (first one) and have a Krups Expert, GVX231, i want something better but dont have a lot of space. Is this a good enough stepup and if i upgraded later to the RANCILIO SILVIA, would it still be ok??

    many thanks in advanced

    alex from london uk

  • @lionheart35000 This would definitely do the job, but the longevity on these is not as good as we'd like to see for the price. If you can get into a Baratza or Rocky that would be ideal; but this will work, definitely, for your setup. - Kat

  • I have this grinder and it's kind of a pain because if you switch brands of beans which i do every once in a while, then trying to get the right grind requires a lot of testing.

  • @Person62 Well, that's true of almost any grinder -- you will have to dial them in if you change beans, so this isn't necessarily a drawback on this model, just grinding in general :) - Kat

  • I got this grinder this week. Your website states the i-Mini conical as a 250 watt motor in the tech specs section but it really is only 140 watts. I think some of the Ascaso flat burr grinders have the 250 watt motors.

    Love your vids, btw!

Kat, lugubrious--really? Are you aware that the word means: gloomy, mournful, or dismal?

Some Seattle days may seem lugubrious but to say a grinder is 'gloomy, dismal or mournful, is pushing it... So, maybe it was your mood that was lugubrious? ;-)

  • @metaspherz Oops - I will double check and correct the product description. I know exactly what the word lugubrious means, thanks -- and I stick by my application this time and any time I use it ;) - Kat

  • @SeattleCoffeeGear That's funny Kat. The first time I heard the word lugubrious was in a H.P. Lovecraft story I read as a kid. Just hearing that word still unleashes hoards of sinister images that I thought were long buried with my adolescent psyche. The creaking floors, mysterious scraping sounds coming from under the bed on dark & stormy nights. Or oddly shaped slithering creatures with claws & beady red eyes lurking in shadow shrouded corners.

Whoa! Way too much coffee today... :-)

  • @metaspherz Ha! Or maybe just enough :) I adore Lovecraft -- definitely one of my long time faves. :D - Kat

  • @metaspherz OK - sorry about the misprint on the wattage; I have corrected for future folks - it is 140 watts, not the originally referenced 250. - Kat

  • Gail, you are adorable, but when will we get to see the ever-elusive Kat?

  • Never! I'm camera-shy :) - Kat

  • I want to say I have loved this grinder since purchasing from SeattleCoffeeGear 18 months ago. It is a beautiful and functional piece of art. It did take me a while initially to dial it in for perfect espresso shots; having done so, I find I can usual switch bags of beans without having to reset the grind. The container holds a weeks worth of shots for me. It helped me to justify the expense to read that the grinder is perhaps the single most important piece of your setup.

  • Good to hear -- yeah, it's really worth spending the money on a good grinder :) - Kat

  • Another great video with awesome chemistry and educational to boot! Kat is a firecracker :)

  • *POP* :) - Kat

  • Hi,

thanx for all your videos, they're really informative. Concerning the Ascaso i-mini, I'm thinking of buying just that grinder. According to Ascaso's website there are two versions of the grinder, one with conical (which you show) and the other with flat burr. The one with flat burr also has a different motor. Did you perhaps try both versions? Any differences in ground or noise from the motor?

  • Thanks for your comments! We haven't used the other version of this with the flat burrs and different motors, but in general the flat burrs tend to be a little more consistent in particle size than conical. Noise-wise, we're not sure. - Kat
