  • This is by far my favorite Goodman-Lee collaboration; I suspect however that it was at least a quartet - listen at the end for what sounds like a muted trombone. Anyone know for sure?

  • This is my favorite version of Where or When. Peggy killed it.

  • @bwalla50 that hardly makes sense

  • There used to be a film of Peggy singing his song with Benny Goodman's band. The recording is here but what happened to the film of the performance?

  • marverous!!

  • Beautiful !

  • Peggy Lee captured the essence of this wonderful song. She draws you in and talks to your heart. What beautiful phrasing and diction.

  • @pinchmeImnotdreaming Dear Pinchme you forgot to say 'Tone' Sublime tone!

I must stop talking to myself.

  • I love how this song is used in Miranda July's "

    The Future"

  • may or may not have brought a tear to my eye..wow

  • A hauntingly beautifully sung song.

  • So sweet, expressive - I consider this to be the most beautiful love song ever recorded.

  • Peggy Lee was beautiful and her beautiful smokey voice matches. She was perfection. Cool beautiful perfection.

  • And today we get Lady KAKA

  • I am a Huge fan of Judy Garland, but boy does Peggy Lee give this song more than justice.

  • wonderful sound ****** janine

  • Such a beautiful song. It was well done and well sung. Thank You for posting it.

  • redshark618

I was walking by the banks of the River Mersey in Manchester. It was a nice Sunny day but cold and fresh.

  • Busy Christmas Eve for Miss Lee who recorded on that day two other songs besides this one!

  • As I walked by the River today, on a nice sunny day, I hummed this to myself.

    the arrangement is soo cool.

    Wonderful

  • @crewzaa i wonder where you live?

a nice sunny day back in late January. :)

  • . This very moving interpretation proves that Peggy lee is in a class by herself.

  • Great version. Peggy was the best.

  • BEAUTIFUL VERSION

  • is 24/12/41 even possible?

  • Best record ever made IMHO!!!!

  • @joelok48 I used to think the Julie London version of this song was the best ever but I hadn't

heard the superb version from Miss Peggy Lee. Thank-you to who-ever posted it.

  • The picture at 2:55 did it. Damn you grandad35. What a great lady

  • peggy lee, wow that name brings me back.

i remember when she played luke skywalker in return of the jedi, she astounded me.

5/5 on the video. 6/5 on the song.

  • Awesome simply awesome!

  • How could anyone have that much "depth of soul" at the age of 21? Goosebumps!!!!

  • @FRANCIS6189 she began her career she was 16...

  • perfectly beautiful.

  • Hottest Blond Ever!

  • down

  • down

  • Would have loved to hear this with Lionel Hampton on the vibe.

  • why can't there be music like this NOWADAYS??? Now we'r stuck with Justin Beiber (a.k.a BEAVER) and all this pop shit

  • This is the best rendition I know of this great song. Peggy and Benny create a beautiful, melancholy atmosphere and it's so moving that it touches you right in the heart. I can listen to this song, over and over again.

  • Well, an even better version, if you will, was recorded by Benny Goodman Trio

for Bluebird (RCA) back in 1937; this is a remake for them. The latter is also

here on You Tube, but you need to search under Teddy Wilson, the pianist.

  • @PhillySouth A better version without the voice of Peggy Lee!? impossible.

  • Comment removed

  • Look kid's this is what a legend look's and sound's RIP Peggy

  • yup works fine

  • Great, great version, haunting - thanks for posting

  • thinking about the era and what folks listened to during what must have been awful time..this song really takes the listener back to wartime USA..pure brilliance from peggy & benny g..

  • Untouchable..... the duo that set the watermark on 20th century music.

  • That was just hauntingly beautiful.

  • I have this double cd set... not a bad one in the bunch. I love the subtle, soft tones of Benny's orchestra and of course Peggy's voice. Perfection. Thank you for posting this beauty.

  • Possibly one of my favourite pieces of all time. Peggy Lee captures the heart of the song perfectly. Bless her for bringing us such fantastic music, in this day and age we need it more than ever.

  • Peggy Lee had another subtle side to her. We know her best for those saucy songs she sang. The mellow Peggy Lee is every bit as good as the saucy Peggy Lee. Hats off to this amazing arrangement and very talented Bennie Goodman and Peggy.

  • Play it again and again Sam

  • Worked for me - May 2010. This isn't "a video" it's a great recording on the audio track matched up with some photos. Killer rendition of a beautiful song by Peggy Lee - she really was one of the all-time greats.

  • Very different from the Peggy Lee I have heard. I love Peggy Lee in this venue.Great stuff.

  • There never was or will there ever be another like Miss Peggy Lee

  • Sinatra's Columbbia version is good too.

  • lovely.

  • beautiful

  • Not a note out of place. Superb. This has replaced 'somebody else is taking my place' by Peggy and Benny as my favorite since 1942.

  • No one can interprete a song like the Great Peggy Lee

  • @tagalag except frank !!

  • Beautifully understated performance by Peggy that will hopefully be preserved here, amongst the youtube idiots for a while.

  • Yes...beautiful;and yes, pathetic, that there are soooo many sickos and biggots on this wonderful medium

  • What a great performance. Thanks for the pix of Peggy who had that pretty mid-western (Wisconsin) face and appearance.

    Thanks for the post.

  • @spartonboat1 she had norwegian and swedish ancestry is why she looked midwestern.

  • Anyone who worked with Benny Goodman got the benefit of working with one of the most brilliant musical minds in popular music of the 20th century.

Lucky Peggy Lee but she was an outstanding vocal musician in her own right.

  • i kinda like this song for the last 30-years years or so here in the u.s. i first heard sung by johnny desmond, then sammy davis jr. and frank sintra.and i still sing it every day.

  • This is so amazing, and recorded on Christmas Eve..............41, Wow. Peggy's voice is so clean and innocent here........just beautiful. She has been and always will be my favorite vocalist , and this is just about the best song ever written.

  • It seems we stood and talked like this, before We looked at each other in the same way then But i can't remember where or when The clothes you're wearing are the close, you wore The smile you are smiling you were smiling then But i can't remember where or when Some things that happened for the first time Seem to be happening again And so it seems that we have met before And that we laughed before, also loved before But who knows where or when
  • grandad35 We can not THANK you enough for this great Peggy Lee song.

  • The ambiance this song brings make me feel very well. The flavor I am looking for!

  • Excellent Grandad35!! Thx for post.

  • Peggy And Benny

    Two Peas In A Pod

    Perfectly matched

    Sweet Music For the Gods.

  • Fantastic!

  • I too heard this on Desert Island discs and have been haunted by it since. Then I met again the love of my life who I haven't seen in many years; the lyrics fit perfectly.

Is someone trying to tell me something?

  • I have recently had a similar experience in my life. i met agian a love that I always carried in my heart for 35 years and this song is that moment thank you for posting htis...so beautiful and meloncholy...and yes i think we are being told somethig...it is my feeling also...

  • There never was or will there ever be another like Miss Peggy Lee

  • orgasm in my mind

  • Wonderful. I too heard it on "Desert Island Discs". I eventually found it on a CD album by Peggy Lee titled "Linger" . It has forty-eight delicious tracks. SMDCD 304, barcode 6 3655143042 5. If ever you have the chance listen to "Golden Earrings".

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Thank you for this - what a star she was.

  • Avec celeste! How wonderful.

  • Yes I heard this on Desert Island Discs and fell in love with it right away. Thank you for posting I couldn't find it anywhere. G

  • This was recorded on 24 December 1941 she was just a girl - but so poignant, so lovely

  • so beautiful, so so beautiful!

  • Superb...this was a choice for Joan Bakewell on BBC radio 4's Desert Island Discs ~ fine choice and many thanks for posting - Chris

  • Perfect.thanks for posting.

  • Love this. Thanks for posting.

  • This video does not play at all!!! What's wrong with it???

  • Very sorry you can't play the Peggy Lee video but it works fine for me.

  • @Grandad35

Actually video images are not essential. Many uploaders feel obligated to add them simply because the option exists.

But sometimes the videos they add are neither here nor there. In that event, a simple static image is actually preferable, and less distracting.

What matters most is the sonic quality of the recording.
